Mr. G's probably has the biggest selection of beer in the Plano area. Central Market is the only one I believe that comes close, but the selection of foreign beers available at Mr. G's blows it away.

You will find a lot of Belgian beers and a surprising amount of English and German beers as well. They also stock one or two macro beers from other countries so if you're looking for foreign macros, Mr. G's has a decent selection too. If you're looking for more foreign exotic beer from Italy or Japan though, you won't find it here.

The craft selection is the biggest I've seen. As I mentioned, only Central Market comes close. A good selection of the Texas beers are available as well as a selection of breweries I didn't see available elsewhere is Plano. Also, they have a few limited selections I'd never seen before (might be old? Not sure).

The atmosphere was quite nice since the building also sells many wines (no liquor though). However, I was in the store for a very long time and no one said a word to me. Even though I didn't need assistance, it was odd no one even talked to me the whole time. It's possible the employees would have been helpful had I needed something though.

The food is supposedly very good (there is a mention of Zagat rating the deli there as the best in the city multiple times), but I didn't eat anything.

Overall, I'd say only a couple beers exist in other beer stores and can't be found at Mr. G's. So Mr. G's will probably be my first stop if I'm searching for a beer in Plano.

This is a darn good beer store for Texas. Given the population divided by the good beer, I put Texas last in the country...but that is another story (sorry Real Ale, Rahr, Live Oak & St. Arnold). Given that, I was impressed with this store. Had all of the beers mentioned above plus a couple more Texas micros. Also a nice import German and Belgian supply. Other micros focus on the northwest - which I like. Deschutes, Full Sail, etc. Plus some Utah beers and nice selection of New Mexico beers - including the abbey beer that came out not too long ago.

The deli is okay. I tried a chicken philly - it was just okay. Service was mediocre.

In the beer store - nobody came around - but it was mid-afternoon on a week day.

I was impressed - best beer variety I have seen in quite a few visits to the lone star state.

Stopped by Mr. G's on a recent trip through Dallas. Very nice store with friendly staff. Tons of wine in this place. They had a whole wall full of beers in coolers plus basically another wall full of warm beer on the shelf. Very good selection and also some harder to find brews. The thing I liked the most was that you were allowed to put any of the 12 ounce bottles in a build your own six pack. They also have monthly tastings for members of their beer club. I will definitely visit this place again next time I'm in town!

On a recent day trip to Dallas (Frisco, Plano area) with my wife i was able to hit up several of the "a" rated stores near the Frisco shopping district. Mr G's is by far the best beer store with the biggest selection that I cam across. They had a great selection of previously retired beers that were shelf aging (Mikeller It's alive, for example). I was able to pick up a wide variety of American craft, euro craft and Belgian ales that were not available at any other store in the area. I highly recommend heading to mr g's if you are spending a day shopping in nearby Frisco. Drop your wife at Sam moon and take 30 minutes for yourself. Cheers!

Good beer store with a deli attached. The beer selection is one of the best in the DFW area and you can break six packs to buy singles, which is a rarity around these parts. Nice selection of Belgian beers, as well as sakes, meads and ciders. The prices are a little bit higher than some stores, but I think it is worth it in order to get the singles. There is also a VIP card that gives you 15 to 20 percent off of singles. The deli is very good and has multiple awards from Zagat hanging on the wall. Great selection of sandwiches and fast service. You can take the sandwich with you, but there are also places to eat in the store. One of my favorite stores.

This is a pretty nice place to buy if you happen to be in the North Dallas area. Pretty nice selection of American micro and craft brews, heavy of course on the regionals, but including a nice choice selection from around the country.... Stones, Averys, Great Divides, Breckenridges, Bear Republics, Ommegangs.... you get the idea. A nice selection of choice Belgians as well. Helpful and friendly staff in my experience. Although, I've not really asked anything about beer, judging by some of the throw-away comments that have come out in the checkout line, some of the guys seem to be pretty knowledgeable about beer or at the very least fans enough of fine brew to be somewhat passionate about the subject. Mix in home brewing supplies, some nice keg selections, a pretty fine wine selection, and a deli, and this is a really nice pitstop.

This is one of my favorite places to buy beer period. Forget about the prices which are on par or lower than just about everywhere else that carries more then your basic beers. Forget about the varied selection which is about as wide as it gets. The big draw for me here is the fact that the staff will let you break apart 6 packs to buy a single beer or even make your own sixer as long as you stay within the same brewer/price. This is perfect if you're like me and like variety. They have quite the extensive wine selection to, if you're into that sort of thing.

overall in the perspective of north texas one of the best selection in beer. some of the bottle may be a bit older than others is it seems to be be more for wine goers so i get a bit uncomfortable about getting anything on the bottle shelf of the warm aisle. has all the well distributed west coast beers. stone's, anchor steam, sierra nevada and etc. some strange marco brew select beers. some micro americans. avery, deschute, beer republic, otter creek and texas brews. pretty good on german and english... which pretty much equal ther belgian collection as well. they have all the beligian possibilities, distribution wise, really. give or take a few. they have all the conservative heavy hitter. and some randoms. i've been to place better on the nation wide scale but you'll find something youi're into absolutely. i don't know if you'll find something you haven't had before if you've worked the circuit though.

This was one trip north out of Dallas that was worth making... This place had a huge wall of beer that was divided out by locals, Belgians, etc... This place had all of the local brews and more Belgians than I've ever seen... Shelves and shelves of terrific brews await a beer lover here... I picked up a mixed sixer of Real Ale offerings, an uber fresh bomber of Maharaja, and some other locals for a trade... Terrific terrific store!!!!

Its a crying shame we don't have stores like this in TN... Probably the best stop in the area...

This is my go-to beer store and while they don't have a few small items that another store has I go here because the staff is great and the selection is still phenomenal. They get all the Rahr beers and plenty of rare brews which is a big plus. Plenty of Saint Arnold, Real Ale, Southern Star, Stone, Boulevard (Smokestack Series), Rogue, Left Hand, Sam Adams, Dogfish Head, Shiner, Bear Republic, North Coast, Lagunitas, Great Divide, Chimay, Allagash, etc. Plus they have all the usual swill that college guys love.

I will be trying out the Deli as well since it always smells wonderful when they're open.

Highly recommended if you are in the area.

I've been down in Dallas for a few weeks for family business and try to stop in here every chance I get and pick up a bottle or 2. Great selection compared to the places I normally go around here and Oklahoma. A few Stones, Victory, DFH, Rahr, Real Ale, Rogue, Full Sail, Pyramid, Widmer, Anchor, and more. they also have a decent Import selection. The service was great. There is a fellow BA who helped me out. I can't remember his SN but it had Mr. G's in it. I noticed a Deli in the back but haven't eaten anything from there. Big wine Selection also.

One of my most-frequented beer destinations in North Texas.

I go at least once a month and they almost always have something new (and exciting). If they don't have anything new, they still a very large wall of high-ABV room-temp imports that I've not made my way through yet. The domestics (and some lower-ABV imports) are in coolers. They have a wide selection overall.

I've found that Mr. G's is the first place I go that gets a number of new-to-the-area beers. Sometimes I don't see them anywhere else.

The staff are great - very helpful and friendly. Most are knowledgeable about the beer.

Someday I shall try the Deli, I hear it is a hoppin' lunch joint.

If every beer store in town had the same beer, I'd still go out of my way to get it from Mr. G's.

Mr. G's is large beer & wine retailer with an in house deli serving up soups & sandwiches to hungry suburbanites. The store is bright, clean, and well organized with a large walk-in beer cooler at the back stocked with a good selection of local, regional, and national brands including but not limited to Dogfish Head, Full Sail, Great Divide, Lagunitas, Rahr & Sons, Real Ale Brewing, Saint Arnold's, Sierra Nevada, Spoetzl, Stone, & Victory. They also have a solid selection of imports (very good for Dallas Metro) including some decent Belgies, but they can come with a premium price tag. Mr. G's is definitely a recommended stop for thirsty beer travelers.

Having recently moved to the DFW area. I was searching for a good beer store and I happend to stumble upon Mr. G's by accident. They have a great selection of domestics and imports. Including a continually expanding collection of Belgains.

Staff knowledge was fair but the service was excellent. On one occasion I was looking for a magnum of Chimay Grande Reserve. They didn't have it but three days later they called to tell me they were able to get a whole case of the 2003 vintage. On another occasion I had read that Widmer was finally going to be available in Texas. So I asked around at several local beer stores that I frequent and no one had ever heard of it (or offered to get it). Two days after making the inquiry at Mr. G's they called me up and had a 1/6 bbl keg waiting for me.

While they seem to have raised their prices lately they are still a great source for specialty items. If they don't have it they will go out of their way to get it.

Stopped by this store recently to find the anniversary beer from shiner and was able to locate it. One of the few places I have been in the area that has some of the more specialty beers. The selection in the cooler was outstanding with it rangeing from the easy to find domestics, to the hard to find imports that only true dedicated beer lovers would want. I would say this store has some of the best selection in the area. It's a bit of a drive from me, but it would be worth it find more quality beers that I would love to try and drink. Recomended for anyone who has that special beer tooth.

I used to really like this place but something has happened in the past 6-9 months with their quality. I used to rarely have a problem with bad beer there but the last 3 times I've gone all the beer has been skunked or off. I went twice about 6-9 months ago and gone burned on 3 different types of beer each time. After that I took a break from them and stayed to CM or WF when I wanted a good selection. This weekend I decided to give them another try and got skunked again. They were even a mix of domestic vs imported and national vs micro. They are back on the banned list for awhile which is unfortunate because they have an excellent selection, especially of Belgian beers. Will try again in a few months.

A friend took me here to show me the a place with any semblance of a decent beer selection in this area. I guess I'm a bit spoiled. Between liquor laws that prevent the sales of truly big beers a la DFH and obviously limited distribution, what you get here is an okay mix of regional brews and obvious Belgians (Duvel, Huyghe, etc.) It was nice to see the Trappist ales neatly sequestered, but the shelf-talkers weren't clearly marked. This is a wine store first and given the staff that was there when I made my visit, you better know your grapes. When I was paying for my selections, the clerk was on the phone buying custom wheels or hubcaps. About the only thing that I could buy here versus a store in VA would be some ho-hum regionals. Nothing special, but it is all relative. You know when the only lambics available are Lindeman's that rarities are not to be found.

This used to be a regular stop for me, but lately Central Market just down the road seems to be a better choice. Granted Central Market is a bit pricier, but the selection just seems to be better and they generally have a better stock of hard to find items. G's seems a little scattered & inconsistent when it comes to their stock....which I'm guessing has more to do with more people shopping for wine than beer. I still stop on occasion, but usually only when Central Market is sold out of what I'm looking for.

Two-story beer & wine warehouse, easy to find on the corner just south of the Medical Center. Easily has the best selection in Dallas, for anyone passing through. Clean and well-lit, as it's in a rather affluent part of Dallas (Plano).

The back wall is lined with coolers for beer, and I'd say that probably 95% of what they have is kept refrigerated. I found some stuff here that I've never seen in Fort Worth, don't know if it's the store or if it just hasn't made it that far west yet. Even saw some beer swag like goblets and logo shakers for sale. I was rather impressed with the wine selection too, as that is what takes up most of the floor space inside.

A small deli is attached/inside, and I didn't see any liquor. Prices are OK, a little higher than Central Market. Service is very prompt, eager to help and knowledgeable. This place rivals Hall's for the number one selection in all of North Texas.

Mr. G's definitely has one of the better selections in the immediate area. I love stores that allow you to break 6-pack. Their prices are a wee bit steep, not too bad, but not great either. I spoke with several people while I was there, and one of them was _extremely_ knowledgable. They had some things I had never seen before, like a 3-foot tall bottle of Chimay, among other novelties. A very nice store to browse in. But, Central Market is not far away, and their selection doesn't rival that of Central Market. Nonetheless, a good, clean store with a good atmosphere.

Mr. G's is a one-stop shopping center for all that is beer and wine. Personally, I would like to see them cut back on the swill and offer an even wider range of micros, crafts, and specialty brews - but I guess they do have to make a living, and as long as they continue to have such an awesome selection, I won't have anything to complain about. Mr. G's is probably the biggest factor in me being turned off of MGD and Bud Light (yes, the first 6 months or so after turning 21, I wasted it drinking this garbage) and turned on to the whole other world of good beers that are available out there. Honestly, I don't know what I would be drinking right now if it wasn't for stores like this. Oh, and as an added bonus, they have a great Deli in the store too!

Mr. G's is a great and wonderful place. My fellow Dallas BA's have done an admirable job describing the place i would like to echo some of their points.

Selection: Mr. G's selection is great. they get all the usual seasonal beers andhave a great selection of beers from around the world. The two great differences I've noticed between Mr. G's and Central Market here is that Mr. G's tends to have different beers rotate through far more often. It makes my visits more interesting to know something new might be in.

Also, Mr. G's allows you to break sixers. VERY important to BA's like me who like to experiment. It's the one thing that makes Mr. G the best beer store in the area to me.

Service: I have always received exemplary service at Mr. G's. The staff know their beer and their wine...heck, it's their life!

Price: The prices at Mr. G's are usually a little more expensive than Central Market. I usually shop CM first, then Mr. G's. If Mr. G's has something CM doesn't, then I'll buy it there.

Mr. G's is a paradise. To top it off, they have an excellent deli that I have frequented a few times. What a wonderful place...have a great lunch and shop for beer.

I have been to all of the big beer stores in the area (Hall's, Central Market, World Market), but I really like Mr. G's simply because they allow you to break any of the 6-packs. Prices are somewhere between the cheaper Central Market and the more expensive Hall's and the selection is as good as either of these.

I really love shopping at Mr. G’s, but I don’t get to nearly often enough because it’s a pretty good drive for me to get out there, and I do have a Central Market that’s basically next door to me that fulfills most of my beers needs. The best feature of Mr. G’s is the fact that you can break up 6-packs and mix-and-match all you want. In fact, on my most recent trip, I ended up leaving the store with over 30 different brews! Most of the beers are also competitively priced relative to other stores in town. The staff is very friendly, though they do seem more knowledgeable about their wine selection, which is also very impressive. In fact, they are one of the very few stores in town to carry wines by Homestead (probably my favorite Texas winery). The also have a pretty nice deli in the store. I’ve only eaten there once, but the food was good. They are located almost across the street from a Central Market, so if one store doesn’t have what you’re looking for, there’s a decent chance that the other might.

The best part of this is that they do not care if you pull a single from every six pack in the place. I almost did that today, although a also purchased a few sixers. I asked them if they were sure it wasn't a problem and they said "Not at all". They do have a large selections of wines and they have a "NA" upstairs too, as well as a deli/dining area. Mr's G's is a wine store and beer store that also happens to have a pretty nice deli. It's probably my favorite beer store, as the staff is friendly and they're more than happy to allow me to go into the back to get beer out of unopened cases, or buy mixed sixers and singles. While the employees know considerably more about their wine than their beer, they seem pretty anxious to satisfy their customers and they do carry a fairly wide variety of Texas-available beers. The selection is probably second only to Hall's in Grapevine, but the beer is far more reasonably priced. Mr. G's has a seemingly perpetual sale on Paulaner beers, with all six packs almost always $6.99. Other beers occasionally go on sale as well, but price is not Mr. G's strong suit. When I want the best price, I go to Central Market. However, Mr. G’s always has the deepest stock of harder-to-find beers like seasonals and Belgians…

The benefit of Mr' G's is their ability store almost all their beer cold and dark. They have a rear-stocking display cooler that runs along one whole wall of the cavernous store. (Cavernous by Dallas standards--this is no Sam's of Chicago). All of the beer on the display shelves is stocked in the dimly lit, cool-but-not-ice-cold cooler. Since I've been shopping there for several years and know several of the staff members, they allow me access to the back, though they may well allow anyone back there for all I know.

Mr. G's is always quick to stock beer I'm looking for and they're always my store of choice if I want to buy delicate beer, because I know they take care of it. It would score higher if the staff knew more about beer and if they ran more frequent sales...
