Notes/Commercial Description:
Cameron’s Rye Pale Ale ABV is one of our most popular seasonal beers. It was originally brewed for the 2011 Bar Volo IPA challenge, earning 2nd Place, by combining the best parts of American and British IPA styles, we achieved a robust and unique staple. This fusion is hazy orange-amber in colour, with a well-constructed white head. It begins with an up front citrus aroma followed by a complex malt body with a hint of peppery rye which releases earthy floral British hop flavour on the finish.

It is made of a combination of seven different floral British and pungent American hops, some which are added in a dry hopping process. This involves adding hops directly to the fermented beer in the fermenter. The hops are well supported by a large malt bill of five character malts with a generous portion of rye which contributes to mouth feel and Cameron’s Rye Pale Ale’s own special character.

Strong beer, Good flavour, amazing aroma, could be filtered to avoid chunks in bottom. great canadian take on IPA. Would have been better to be slightly sweeter but the rye adds an amazing layer of depth and complexity to the beer. A good summer beer to remind you of warmth in those cold winter months

341 mL bottle. Received in a taster pack. Poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance: Gorgeous copper/caramel colour, Thick, creamy, yet surprisingly bubbly off-white coloured head. Distinct spider-web lace left on the glass. Head dissipates quite slowly, if at all.

Smell: No doubt a heavily hopped beer, and it reflects in the smell. Grapefruit, slight pine, earthy, pineapple, mixed tropical/warm-weather fruits (kiwi, mango, papaya). Slight caramel sweetness, which gives the aroma a pleasant balance of both sweet and bitter.

Taste: Like an IPA with a bit of caramel. Strong grapefruit, pine, and pineapple flavours. Nice caramel graininess to compliment the bite of the hops. While barely noticeable in the smell, the rye flavour just gets through at the end of the palate and balances the beer even further with it's maltiness.

Mouthfeel: Bitingly bubbly but chewably grainy. Strong lingering flavours. Quite dry.

Overall: Damn good beer. While it's almost unfair to call this a rye beer because of how similar it is to an IPA, the rye is hard to deny. Would recommend to any beer lover and can't wait to buy some more!

Another hit from the brewer's at Cameron's Brewing Company. They have added the correct amount of Rye so that it is a easy drinking beer. I would not change this beer at all. You could almost drink this beer all night.

I liked this so much I am going to brew my own RPA.

650ml bottle, recently arrived to Alberta bottleshop shelves.

This beer pours a hazy medium orange brick amber hue, with three fat fingers of puffy, bubbly, and tightly foamy ecru head, which leaves some decent droopy webbed lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.

It smells of musty grapefruit, orange, pineapple, and kiwi citrus, bready, grainy caramel malt, a twinge of spicy rye graininess, wet pine needles, underripe generic melon, a pithy, chalky Pez candies sweetness, and earthy, leafy hops. The taste is gritty, grainy pale and rye malt, acerbic orange, grapefruit, and pineapple rind, sharp pine needles, muddled, weirdly dry tropical fruit notes, and an aggressive hard water flintiness, which may be partly attributable to the latent grassy, herbal hops.

The bubbles are tight, but mostly low-key and palate-friendly, the body on the lee side of medium weight, and really just too much akin to yer typical IPA in its burgeoning astringency to be celebrated for its smoothness. It finishes mostly dry, the fruitiness surely pressing back, as the spicy rye malt, and heady (multiple meanings, yo) IPA-worthy hops strongly profess otherwise.

I know that this is classified here as a rye beer, but c'mon - the IPA bitterness is so much more pronounced than the admittedly prominent rye malt bill ratio. Yer average rye beer is hardly as punchy as this one is, so the average consumer may get the wrong idea. At any rate, a pleasant cross-breeding of styles, glad to finally get a chance to try it, and with the minimal amount of effort, thanks be to Christian!

Picked up as part of the Cameron's Taster's pack. Haven't loved the style yet, although this one is highly regarded. Served cold into a pint glass.

Appearance - murky copper brown color with generous 2.5 fingers of off-white head. Substantial lacing left down the sides of the glass and the head actually stays for a good long while. Head is creating a nice little cap on top too.

Smell - Some rye, but also quite a bit of hops are present, and smells deliciously like grapefruit. Faint grainy smell as well but the aromas meld together nicely to create something that is inviting and complex simultaneously.

Taste - Big bitterness from the hops and a certain dry quality to them enhanced by the rye characteristics. The bitterness lasts well into the aftertaste and is a bit excessive for my tastes, but has been nicely blended with the hops for a clean crisp taste.

Mouthfeel - Dry finish, but well carbonated and gives a lively sensation in the mouth. Works well with the flavors in the beer as well.

Overall - So I don't think I'll ever be a rye beer person, but I feel that this is a good representation of the style and illustrates some of the possibilities available especially when crossing with a hoppy pale ale. It was enjoyable and refreshing albeit an intense experience and would definitely pick up again if I were in the mood. Keeps getting better the farther you get into the glass. Definitely recommended for hop heads.
