On-tap at the source in a shaker pint glass, costing $4. On to the beer:

Hazed orange copper in color, topped off by a very short head with little retention and poor lace. Its nose is sweet, no surprise, thankfully it's a little balanced. Musty toffee and raisin come to mind in the nose.

Because most American brewers don't brew a doppelbock, I wasn't sure what to expect. Fortunately, it's not too bad. Sweet as expected, it starts with a little raisin, then it transforms into apples and spice with an echo of pineapple (pineapple....in a D-bock? What kind of hops are they using?). The sweet flavors dry out and become more doughy, and that is the flavor that lingers into the aftertaste. Its alcohol at 8.5% shows itself a little, with much of the intensity felt in the throat. Not particularly a big bodied beer which I hoped. The overall package does go down round, which ordering this style is often a big question mark.

To be honest it came out a little better than what I expected. Not a memorable beer, though a decent change-up.
