Hazy dull golden color, pours with a short lived fizzy head. The aroma is fairly subdued but enticing enough. I found lactic sourness, some mangos, some fruity phenols, wheat, sugar, and well incorporated heat.

A couple of whiffs did not prepare me for my first sip, wow! A split second of sweet, wheaty mango shines before being almost overwhelmed by the tart lactic finish. That "almost" is key because the two elements work well together. Lots of lingering pucker and a bit of boozy schnapps.

Best Weyerbacher anniversary beer in a few years. Really liking this one, never had anything like it. This was a single, going back for a case for sure.

Pours into a large tulip glass a deep honey color with a frothy white head that is gone pretty quickly.Wow alot going on in the nose with the mango at the for front along with some light phenol spice and sweet alcohol,smell like alcoholic candy.Flavors have a bit of a sourness to them wich took me by surprise a little to go along with the tropical fruitiness,phenol yeasty spice,and sweet alcohol in the finish.Sometimes the "big" Weyerbacher beers can be a little heavy handed in the alcohol department...this one not to much,although it plays a role all the flavors come together pretty well here.Nice job.

12 oz bottle poured into glass.

Appearance: hazy golden color that is pretty translucent with lots of bubbles. One finger white head that stays for a bit.

Smell: traces of mangoes. Heavy wheat smell. No booze notes.

Taste: WOW this is sour. Even after reading some of these reviews I wasn't expecting this much sour. Definitely get the mangoes and other fruit flavors hitting in this. Some base wheat ale taste as well. But man, that's sour stuff. Very unique for the type.

Mouthfeel: Crisp. Clean. Slight booze aftertaste.

Overall: oh, man. That's some good sipping stuff there. Definitely happy I got this.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head that fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A fruity, sweet, and bready wheat driven aroma with big hints of mango fruit. Upfront wheat, Belgian yeast, and pale malt with hints of grains, straw, caramel, and cracker. Big scent of mango juice along with some hints of orange, pineapple, and lemon zest. Spice hints of clove and pepper. Also some sweet hints of honey. A pretty solid sweet aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a sweet, fruity, and yeasty wheat forward taste with big notes of mango and Belgian style spice. Belgian yeast with some notes of clove and pepper spice. Wheat and pale malt with notes of straw, grains, cracker, and caramel. Big juicy taste of mango fruit along with some notes of pineapple, orange, lemon, and banana. Sweet honey like notes. A pretty good taste that is sweet and fairly tart.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Juicy, chewy, and somewhat syrupy but far from cloying. Alcohol heat is pretty mild.

Overall: A pretty good take on a wheat beer. Good mango and spice presence with a nice controlled sweetness.

I was curious- pours a hazy golden orange with a finger or two of white head, decent retention and lacing. Certainly pretty.

Smell is what you'd expect- wheat, a little mango, some yeast. Nothing special but nice.

Taste is not quite what I expected- as a previous BA said, it does an almost lambic like tartness to it which I quite liked. Maybe more like a Berliner weisse. Light wheat background with some mango sweetness and a nice balanced fruity tartness.

Mouthfeel is very nice- medium body (not boozy at all) and moderately well carbonated. I actually liked this beer- if you're into anything tart or if you like fruity beers but want a little more intrigue.

A: Opaque apricot with a thin off white head that settles to a thin ring around the glass. Minor amount of lace, and moderately carbonated.

S: Tart with notes of apricot and mango. Fruity candy like starbursts or smarties. Fruit loops. A bit musty. A hint of booze.

T: Tart mango, then comes waves of boozy lemon. Finishes moderately dry with a hint of the wheat style coming through.

M: Thin, a bit of boozy warmth.

D: Extremely drinkable for a beer at 10%. All over the place with elements of different styles. It looks and feels like a pale ale, with a nice wheat flavor on the finish. You don't get too much hops as you may expect with a pale ale, and there really is no malt backing. It has elements of the Gose and Gueuze styles as well. Interesting beer, but would probably not purchase again.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Burley Oak snifter (6/9/14 and best by 6/9/19)

A: Hazy straw copper body with almost no head. Basically no lacing, and a finger head that goes away rapidly. A nice bit of sediment in it as well.

S: Tart and a bit funky smelling. Quite the farmhouse here.

T: Once again it is like it smells. This is more of a saison than anything. I get the style but only really in the mouthfeel. The mangoes and the slight tartness really mix it up a lot. I wonder if this will get more tart and funky with time. Also, you can't taste any alcohol here at all, if anything it is masked by the tartness. I can't believe this is 10%.

M: Smooth and a bit frothy.

O: I really wonder what this would be like in 2019. So much funk here, that really overcomes and outlasts the initial tartness. Really interesting beer here that I would like to see how it ages.

- wheat ale brewed with mango. Bot. 6.10.14 good through 6.10.19. consumed 8.27.14.

(3.70) A: A light sunny yellow exit from the bottle sits as a dark autumn orange in the chalice with a dense clarity. A two inch bready light tan head is relatively lasting with condescending rings of lace. Micro-effervesce is slow to rise along the edges.

(3.60) S: Aroma of dry pear and mangos with some cooked pineapple and tart orange. Dry whole wheat, tart fruitiness with a wiff of dry alcohol on the fade.

(3.70) T: Flavor was quenching with a wet fruitiness, almost puckering, with some sour pineapple-orange, with hints of sweet peach and alcohol. Sour fruitiness with a wine like acidity and leafy green hops come on the close.

(3.65) M: Creamy mouthful, acidic and low in carbonation with a medium body weight.

(3.65) O: an interesting flavor, but one im unsure of drinking in multiples. Tart fruitiness, some sourness factors in, with a manageable alcohol content that is probably much higher then perceived. Consumed young, maybe some aging is in order.

A - A fairly gentle pour gives way to an active pour that yields a bit less than a fingers worth of audibly fizzy off white colored fizzy head... Limited at best retention gives way to a partial lopsided lacing and thin collar... The is a mix of pale copper and pale bronze... There is a subtle haziness that permeates throughout... A slight bit of micro sized bubble streaks can be seen towards the top of the snifter... There is a good bit of suspended sediment throughout...

S - A touch of sweet mango... There is a slight lactic acid presence... A touch of honey... Some faint sweet bready malts... Perhaps some over ripened golden raisins as well...

T - There is a Belgian yeast presence the lies beneath the surface throughout which wasn't present on the nose... There is also a strong wheat presence... The tartness begins to intensify midway through before turning into a pure sourness on the finish... The mango addition is much more subtle on the palate than on the nose... A slight spice character lingers deep beneath the surface and really beings to emerge on the deep finish... Lots of layers and complexity...

M - Saliva inducing... Medium bodied... Fairly dense... A surprising bit of carbonation...

D - I've been a huge fan of the Weyerbacher Anniversary series since close to the beginning, but this one misses the mark for me a bit... It's not bad, but it doesn't live up to the lofty expectation that I typically carry for the annual offering... It's an interesting and aggressive attempt at something new, and while i commend that, it falls a bit short of achieving what I think it set out to do... It does hide the high-ABV rather well...

Nice. %$#~? 10 percent ABV??! I wouldn't have guessed!

Lots of fruit forward esters and tropical character, the wheat really just rounds things out.

Unfortunately, my pint suffered an accident and I'd like to try this again.

Bottle purchased at Chocolate and Vines in Rochester, NY.

Pours a dark amber orange, with a half inch fizzy head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like candied mango, lactic acid, honey, and just honestly, sugar. It smells pretty sweet.

It's more sour in the taste department. There's some sweet, fruity sourness, a good amount of mango, a bit of honey, some hay, and the slightest twinge of wheat. The wheat beer is kind of lost underneath the sour.

This is medium bodied, with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel, and a higher level of carbonation, lending a bit of a fizzy feel to it. The alcohol is not noticeable at all.

This is pretty solid, but honestly, kind of unexciting and I don't really want to ever have it again.

Poured into a Funky Buddha Brewery snifter. Bottleneck says 06/09/2014.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/4 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of sheer surface foam. Not-so-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Aroma consists of booze, slight mango sweetness and some Belgian-esque yeast laying over top.

T- Initial mango sweetness soon turns to a decent tartness that lasts on the palate. Booze isn't as prevalent as in the nose. There's also a certain Belgian yeast quality to it as previously detected in the nose.

M- Mildly tart and dry with medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- A lot going on here, as expected, and the end result is quite good. The alcohol/sweetness/tartness dynamic is pretty on-point with no one element overpowering the other.

Appearance - pale yellowish orange, slightly hazy, can still see through. One finger head, slightly off white, fades rather quickly away, leaves slight lacing.

Smell - Strong tropical fruit aromas intertwined with bready wheat and medium overtones of citric sourness, slight lactose, minimal clove spice, lots of candy-sugar sweetness

Taste - Mango and tart grapefruit flavors upfront, banana cream and some clove, finishes with a medium strength sourness, smooth sourness, very very slight bitterness on the finish, clove taste is stronger in the aftertaste, brown sugar candy sweetness and overripe fruit balance out the finish

Mouthfeel - light effervescent with some creaminess, wheat adds a lot of body but keeps the brew crisp, finishes with some acidity, not astringent in the least, leaves some stickiness.

Overall - an extremely pleasant and perplexing beer. Is pretty unique to my taste. Suppossed to be a blend of a beliner weisse and a mango wheat ale. I feel it hits all those marks and becomes an entirely new entity in the process. Would definately recommend this to anyone who enjoys fruity flavored beers. The sourness is so balanced that it would be a nice gateway beer to the taste. Their is nothing artificial when it comes to the fruit tastes. Beer is extremely easy to drink at 10% you can barely taste any alcohol. I've had ten of these and I will be cellaring another two. Am curious how the taste will evolve with time, but I must say this is truly a superb beer and great fresh.

Straight pour from a pry-off 12oz bottle to a short, fat tulip. This bottle’s got a packaging date of June 9, 2014 clearly printed in greenish ink on the shoulder of the bottle, along with a freshness date of June 9, 2019, making this beer exactly 35 days old and 2,156 days shy of expiration. Y’know, give or take a few hours. (“06/09/2014 06/09/2019 5151 5197 B2.”)

Appearance (3.5): A finger and a half of crackly, tan-colored foam rises off of the pour, capping a chill-hazed, orange-golden body; modest retention in the head, dying down with a lot of fizzing and leaving just some patches of residue on the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the margins. Looks like a sour, really, without a lot of fanfare. Gorgeous color, though.

Smell (4.25): Soft, but bright/light brett, a touch of lacto, and a subtle mango tang blend with soft, bready, lightly fruity wheat malt. As it opens up, the mango lets out the obligatory citric, kinda-tart/kinda-juicy, tropical but lightly astringent character your get from mangoes that aren’t green but aren’t FULLY ripe, either. (I think people who eat mangoes a lot will understand what I’m trying to say.) But it also lets out beautiful floral tones that I’m really digging.

Taste (4.0): This is unexpectedly complex—it tastes like a rich, unfiltered, German wheat beer, with its fruity esters, tart and bready wheat malt, and chewy body, was blended with a lambic and fermented with mango flesh. Yogurt-like lacto/pedio, tart citric acid, and some lingering juicy fruit flavors mix to make a sour tropical component that cuts through the quietly rather boozy, estery wheat beer. It’s like Weihenstephaner brewed a wheatwine and blended a relatively straightforward (but mango) lambic into the final mixture. Personally, I like it, but it’s real damn funky. It starts with a brief, soft, juicy sweetness, followed quickly by a layer of tart, citric bitterness; this hangs on for a bit while malt and fruit juice make a nice, slightly syrupy base. Finally it washes out with a dry, definitely somewhat lactic finish.

Mouthfeel (4.5): The body walks this bizarre tightrope between being smooth and syrupy and being cutting, dry, and tart. It’s not somewhere in between; it’s on both sides at once. Definitely a sipper, but it draws you back in happily. The body is relatively hefty and smooth, but acid cuts through and allows the carbonation to slip a very fine layer of tingly bubbles underneath it all before it washes out, surprisingly dryly.

Overall (4.0): I’m not saying I have a better style classification in mind for this beer, but did someone list this as an American Pale Wheat Ale as a joke? Maybe “Fruit/Vegetable Beer” would be better, or American Wild. Consequently, I’m rating this not to “style” but to whatever the hell impression it makes on me. That being the case, I think this is a fascinating and very enjoyable, even if not transcendent, exploration of style. It’s creative, it’s well-done, it pushes some boundaries but not outrageously so, and it’s memorable for how unique it is if nothing else.

Picked this up for a staggering 4.25 for the single. Into a pint glass.

A - Creamy head atop of a very chunky looking sediment filled apricot orange. Lacing is excellent.
S - Mild tart apricot with mango sweetness and a good hint of wheat. Very fruity with a good yeast.
T - Very impressed with this tart apricot and mango sweetness, wheat body, and a smooth ABV finish.
M - If I were to guess I would say 7% no way is this stuff 10% it drinks too damn smooth.

Overall well worth the price of admission I love some good fruit beers. Only drawback was getting this too late (bottled on 6/10/14) after 5 months it really collected sediment. Would get it again very tart and fruity like a high ABV lambic!

Appearance- Pours a medium golden color, slight orange hues. One finger thick white head, soapy and bubbly, carbonation very apparent when agitated. Not much lacing on glass.
Aroma- Sour smelling fruit, nice tart and ripe aromas. Raw mango flesh, apples, apricots, slight citrus notes. Clean pale malt aromas come through as well.
Taste- Follows nose closely, tartness up front, sour puckering fruit flavors. Wonderful ripe mangos and bright fruits. Super clean and dry finish, almost refreshing.
Feel- Lighter body/mouthfeel, high carbonation, both visible and in the taste.
Overall- Such an interesting beer, so light and refreshing for a 10% beer. Packed with ripe and vibrant fruits flavors that get amplified by the sourness, wonderful combination.

Consumed @ 7 months. Have one more bottle and i think i might let it sit 2-3 years and see what happens

Bottled on 6/10/14. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy burnt orange with some sediment floating around; small white head that fades quickly leaving nice retention and decent lacing. The aromas are full of orange and mango. Lots of wheat and malts. Lots of sweet fruits. The flavors are pretty tart. I wouldn't say sour, but it can make you pucker. More mango and orange. Some hints of pineapple. Very subtle hints of caramel. This is a very sweet beer. Maybe a little too sweet for my liking. The wheat remains in the finish. It's not exactly refreshing, in my personal opinion. Alcohol basically goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with active carbonation.

I'm usually a big fan of Weyerbacher's anniversary beers, but I'm not really a big fan of this one. It sounded like something that would be up my alley, but the sweetness is really over the top for me. It's still a unique take on the style. It's not bad, it's just not for me.

Grabbed this one on draft at roast house in Frederick. Good looking beer with a decent smell with noticeable alcohol. Taste is excellent, more sweet than tart but really smooth and the way the taste covers the alcohol makes it crazy easy to drink for the ABV.

A: Pours a cloudy deep apricot in color with moderate amounts of medium to large sized particles in suspension, light amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the edges of the glass, and some faint golden yellow + orange highlights. The beer has a quarter finger tall fizzy white head that reduces to a medium to large sized patch in the center and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of sweet boozy mango with a lighter aroma of slightly sour wheat and very light notes of spices + phenols.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of slightly sour wheat but that is quickly taken over by strong flavors of slightly sweet boozy mango. There is a light flavor of phenols + spices towards the finish. Light notes of alcohol linger through the finish.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light hints of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: I was not sure what to expect with a American Pale Wheat Ale that clocks in at 10% ABV, but this is not as light and easy to drink as others in the style - a little heavy handed with the alcohol but not as intense as Weyerbacher tends to be...

I don't understand the high ratings. Mango...where? All I get is sour beer. Sour beer is ...sour beer! Did not enjoy this beer at all. If you like sour beer, huh? ...then this is for you. I am sure this will be a "one time" brew. Weyerbacher...this experiment failed.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance
Gold with a 1/2 finger of white head that dissipates quickly. Slightly hazy with moderate carbonation.

Nose
Banana, wheat, caramel, clove, and a subtle Lacto tartness.

Taste
Huge amount of tangy wheat and lemon juice. Banana bread and caramel. Light Lacto sour character. Notes of apricot and a sour peachiness. Hints of mango along with dashes of cinnamon, clove, and coriander.

Mouthfeel
Medium-plus bodied, silky, and tart.

Overall
The mango character tastes more like apricots to me. Drinks really easy for 10%. Pretty unique offering from Weyerbacher definitely worth a try.

A- Pours a golden color with very little haze. There was about 3/4 inch white head to it that made it very hard to pour in the snifter.

S- Smells of candied fruits and mango (Distinctly that dry mango smell).

T- An initial rush of mango followed by the candied fruits, and then finally a few sour notes to bring the taste full circle. Cannot taste any of the alcohol that this brew is known for.

M- Very light, but with a very dry finish. Mango lingers on palate for quite a while.

O- Super happy I picked up a case of this limited release. I will be going through the bottles slowly, and be sure to hide some to age over the next few years.

Unusual beer. Pours a hazy dark gold color with a big white head. Less than average retention (probably the high abv) and bands of lacing on the pint glass.

Smell is fairly mild, but includes mango syrup, a little wheat bitterness and some spices (cloves) and yeast. Taste has more of the same with the primary flavors being slightly sweet mango juice and some wheat bitterness. There is a sourness in the finish that seems to go well with the rest of the flavor

Mouthfeel is fairly light for a beer of this strength. Alcohol presence and "bite" are very light. The bitterness, offset by fruity sweetness and somewhat sour finish are more pronounced. Not bad at all!!!
