Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Made with seven hop varieties, this deep copper-orange IPA is loaded with juicy hop notes of pine, lemon zest, and a layer of pink grapefruit and a strong foundation of toasted caramel malts underneath it all give this beer a complexity that's unparalleled.

A great looking brew. A deep amber, with bronze highlights. A big two finger tight head with excellent retention is resting on top of the brew. Nice lacings that stick to the sides of my glass.

A good aroma, with some balance. The aroma of ruby red grapefruit and pine predominates, but slightly nutty and toasted malts aromas with biscuit and hints of caramel manage to assert themselves.

No real surprises in the taste which is pretty much as described above for the aroma. A good example of an east coast IPA, hoppy, yet the malt manages to assert itself.

Almost medium in feel, with a smooth creaminess despite the carbonation. Somewhat piney and resinous, yet the malt does have backbone.

A pretty drinkable IPA, and sessionable according to the new sense of the word. It would be easy enough to enjoy a few of these at a sitting. Well worth a try, although there are semi regional examples of the style that i prefer.

The color is that of long unpolished tarnished brass, a thick sort of brownish-orange. It's almost muddy-looking, and completely opaque. The tan head isn't large but it's pretty tight. Lacing is left in moderate to heavy spotting.
There's a raw sort of sweetness on the nose before oily, resinous pine and citrus peel.
The flavor is primarily piney bitterness with definite citrus support. It's raw, earthy and lightly, but not overbearingly, pithy. Just a touch of biscuity malts adds balance. Fruity esters add an interesting element that runs all the way through.
It's about equal parts crisp and smooth, a good feel considering how thick it looks. It isn't particularly, and it's got a nice bite that carries through in its fairly bright medium body. It leans a little cloying, not from sweetness but that thickness does almost pull into it.
