Appearance - A clear amber/auburn with a monster of a frothy pale beige head that sticks around for a while. Big uneven rings of lace. This is a great look for a pale ale. Okay, beer - I'm listening.

Smell - Holy hopcore! Powerful aromatic pine hops warn me that this beer means business.

Taste - I may have been warned but this took me by surprise. Powerful pine hoppy flavor that doesn't go away. A bit of bitterness joins, but nothing overwhelming. Quite surprising.

Mouthfeel - Thin and frothy, a bit drying.

Drinkability - Unlike most hoppy beers, I could drink several of these before I couldn't take it anymore since the hoppy taste is fairly well balanced. The hops would overpower any food except maybe a lethally spicy one, which it just wouldn't go with at all.

The color is that of long unpolished tarnished brass, a thick sort of brownish-orange. It's almost muddy-looking, and completely opaque. The tan head isn't large but it's pretty tight. Lacing is left in moderate to heavy spotting.
There's a raw sort of sweetness on the nose before oily, resinous pine and citrus peel.
The flavor is primarily piney bitterness with definite citrus support. It's raw, earthy and lightly, but not overbearingly, pithy. Just a touch of biscuity malts adds balance. Fruity esters add an interesting element that runs all the way through.
It's about equal parts crisp and smooth, a good feel considering how thick it looks. It isn't particularly, and it's got a nice bite that carries through in its fairly bright medium body. It leans a little cloying, not from sweetness but that thickness does almost pull into it.
