A fine, thin head quickly drops to a residual lacing over the dark, copper-red Quad. A definite, leggy film coats the glass with each swirl in my Hoegaarden snifter glass.
The sweet/tart aroma is reminiscent of a Merlot with subtle cherry, akin to a Flemish Sour.
The flavors closely follow the aroma leaning more to dry fruit of raisins and plums with woody after-tones.
The palate is treated to a smooth velvet and prickly carbonation. While the alcohol is present, it clearly knows its place and one would not guess it to be 12%, or even the 11.8%, as my bottle reads.
Weyerbacher always delivers a great conversation beer or sipper to be paired with a good book. I very much look forward to a side-by-side comparison with Blasphemy.
