look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: rich, ruddy amber hue with a thick finger of frothy ivory foam. A nice looking beer.

Smell: nice malt aroma with some phenolic spiciness and a definite note of alcohol. A light presence of dark fruits is nice, but the high alcohol leaves this just a bit too chemically to be truly good.

Taste: rich flavor of dark fruits; raisins, dates, tobacco and a rich maltiness all come together to make a nicely mullable flavor. Alcohol is a bit high, but still it's rather good.

Mouthfeel: big body and bodacious carbonation leave a giant creaminess combined with a rich silky texture. Wonderful.

Overall: this is an imperfect but pretty good quad. It's nice not to have to go to Belgium for flavors like this.

A: 1/3 inch head that quickly vanishes, light caramel color, very little carbonation visible (literally one medium stream).

S: Alcohol on front-end, the slightest banana scent on the back-end.

T: Pretty straight forward: mellowed bananas.

M: Medium body, bitey carbonation, alcohol is present on the back-end, a little rough at times.

O: Surprised by the banana presence, great carbonation. Very enjoyable.

Cellared Bottle from 2012 with no date on the bottle

Pours with little head into a Chimay goblet. Mahogany in color with a cloudiness and just a trace of white head.

The nose has big bready notes and a light caramel despite what I was expecting.

Thinner than I anticipated. The alcohol is hidden but starts to come out a bit as it warms. There are some stone fruit characters that come through but these are not as bold as I expected again. I want this to come through with a bigger mouthfeel and more intense flavors. It is easy drinking and finishes dry with raisins and tobacco on the palate.

Overall a solid beer but it is missing that punch that I expect from a quad.

12oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 10.99/ 4 pack. Bottled 10/23/13. Served in a Clown Shoes snifter.

Pours a deep, barely transparent garnet honey hue with a quater finger of pale head. The foam quickly recedes to a thin ring, leaving only a few tiny specks of lace.

Smells of bubblegum, Belgian yeast, dark fruit, mild pear, honey and booze.

As expected, this tastes like a straightforward American quad. Big and bold with a dominant yeast character. Bannana, apple skins, cloves, vague darkish fruits, earthy leather, mild honey, toffee, faint rum notes and plenty of booze. It opens up quite nicely as it warms.

Oily, medium body with fair carbonation. Plum, bannana, clove and booze linger in the finish.

This may be a far cry from my favorite quad but it's pretty good. At it's pricepoint I probably should have bought another 4 pack for the cellar because I think this will do nicely with some age to calm the booze.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle in to a tulip.

A- Pours about a quarter inch of off white head with a transparent red-brown body

S- Bubble gum for sure, dark fruits, and quite a bit of booze.

T- The taste follows the nose pretty consistently, but with more of a pronounced pear flavor.

M- Medium-bodied, medium-high carbonation.

O- This brew is leaning towards being a bit watery in both feel and taste. Nothing off-putting, but there are certainly better quads out there. That said, Weyerbacher makes consistently GOOD brews.
