Heresy pours dark opaque black with a thin cream colored head.
The nose is dominated by roasted malts, caramel, sweet cream- with notes of coffee, chocolate, dark fruits and vanilla. The dark fruits and vanilla are reminiscent of whiskey.
This stout greets the palate with roasted malts sweet cream and chocolate. The finish turns to bitter cocoa, vanilla, burnt malts and some oak. Charred oak, vanilla, and warm alcohol linger long somewhat like a good bourbon.
This is a medium weight stout with medium carbonation. There's more carb than the typical stout. This combined with lighter tongue weight make this a great session stout.
Overall, this stout isn't bad. I'd like to see what a little aging will bring to the plate- but, sadly, I've finished the four pack. If mixing your two passions into one glass is your thing- this is definitely a brew that you need to try.
