I found this to be an amazingly good beer from a brewery that has as many misses as hits. It pours a deep black that allows very little light to enter or exit. There is a small tan head that fades before you know it, but the aroma is the thing. It has a great bourbon aroma that adds to the original Old Heathen base, which was great to start with. The bourbon smell does not overwhelm that base but adds to it. The malty stout aroma is still there under the bourbon.
The taste is very complex with a definite taste of the bourbon and oak but not to the point of overwhelming the beer. There are hints of molasses, coffee, and chocolate along with the sweetness of the malt. This is very full-bodied and rich in the mouth, almost thick. I found this to be a real hit from Weyerbacher. Can't wait to get another bottle.
