I have always seemed to miss the release of this brew. Finally I got a four pack at Trenton Road Takeout.Blithering Idiot in bourbon barrels.
Poured into a snifter.Pours a murky brown with some lighter golden highlights. Nice covering with an off white heading. Decent lacing mid-way but does turn flat through the rest of the tasting. It does start out with an amzing heading for such a high ABV.
Smell is mostly of burnt caramel sugars with a nice syrupy-molasses nose as well. Subtle bourbon notes with a touchdown of vanilla. No real hop presence here.
Taste blew me away.Heavy malty bite from the get go,quickly switched over to a hotter boozey bourbon oak taste in which matches perfectly to a subtle fruity character. Bourbon doesn't scorch the palate but keeps the belly warm.
Mouth is full bodied very alive on the palate for such a high ABV.Very easy going.
All around a solid tasting. Fantastic bourbon touch. I am not a big fan of Blithering Idiot but simply put it in bourbon barrels and age it. Has really done wonders here. Well done.
