This is one of the best Barleywines Ive tasted. The beer is a bright dark amber with a thin white head. The aroma is delicious with an intense oaky malt and dark fruit smell. The flavors are intensely malty and complex but very balanced and rounded with notes of sherry, dark dried fruit, and vanilla. The finish has a soft bitterness along with a warm alcohol sensation. The hops are kept in balance while many barleywines have a rough, burnt bitterness that lowers the drinkability in my opinion. This is an excellent sipper that would go great with the gorgonzola cheese I'm having right now with it or a nice after dinner Macanudo.
