Appearance: Pours an amber color with orange highlights. Really disappointing pour, as there is almost no head and what is there refuses to cling to the glass.
Smell: Alcohol, spice, malt, caramel, and pumpkin, in that order. Spice is a bit overpowering, and the alcohol doesn't help. I like a pumpkin ale with a lot of fresh pumpkin on the nose, and this doesn't have it.
Taste: Brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg are strong, and probably too strong. Taste unfortunately reminds me of cough syrup. The malt tastes fine but isn't too interesting, and whatever pumpkin is there is drowned out by the alcohol. The beer has an ABV of 8%, and unfortunately, it tastes like it has an ABV of 8%.
Mouthfeel: Thin and acidic. It goes down easy but I'd prefer it was a bit thicker.
Overall: This doesn't do much for me. There are a lot of pumpkin ales out there, and I know that being an imperial pumpkin ale this needs to be bold and strong, but it just doesn't quite have the balance that it needs to work around that alcohol. It's not a bad brew, but for the price it's not something I'll buy again.
