Damn, I have found a new favorite. Weyerbacher comes through with yet another champion on par with many of their Big Beer series.
Pours a slightly oily deep copper under a sticky, frothy just barely off white head. The aroma is stupendous. I sniffed and snorted, and almost didn't want to drink it to possibly disappoint myself. (OK, that was a stretch, but you get what I mean) The piney, sticky, grapefruit and lemon hop character is amazingly strong, and comes through in a big way, but smoothed out in the flavor, by the malt backbone. This beer is really a winner.
Perfect mouthfeel for an DIPA if you ask me. One of the best. Slightly slick and oily, but with a drier finish to clean it up. It leaves your palate just in time to want more. The long finish is really impressive, and the drinkability is high since it is so overwhelmingly smooth, yet full, and just the right level of alcohol.
A true winner.
