Sampled this at the 2008 BeerFest at Fries Cafe in Clifton.

Appearance: Dark, toasty amber-brown color with very little head that doesn't stick around long. Light, sticky lacing follows the beer down the glass.

Smell: WOW - this beer smells exactly like the Cat House at the Cincinnati Zoo; not a great smell at the zoo, and not a great smell in my beer. A little maltiness is slightly detectable, but can't compete with the cat piss odor.

Taste/Mouthfeel: This is probably the first beer I've ever had that tasted so good and smelled so bad. There is seemingly little connection between the two in this beer, which is unusual for me with my very strong sense of smell. The bitterness of the hops is very bright and dry, more piney than citrusy, but both are present. There's a bit of toasty grains and spice, but the hops shine through, as the name suggests. Not much could compete with those flavors. The mouth is moderate to light, with good carbonation greatly improving the drinkability of an otherwise overpoweringly strong beer.

Drinkability: moderate to high for the style and ABV thanks to the carbonation.

Appearance is an opaque dark rust orange and poured a never ending head.

Smells of grapefruit and citrus in the nose and sweet malt on the finish

Sweet caramel and malt notes with a biter citrus hop finish.

Mouthfeel is thick and sticky just how I like my IPAs.

Overall a damn good brew and would most certainly sample again.

Poured from a bottle to a snifter.

Pours a magnificent orangeish-amber. Creamy foam head with decent retention. Not much lacing. A little murky.

Aroma is a strong balance of citrus, pine, and malts. Heavy on the grapefruit, and a little bit of orange.

Orange, grapefruit, and bitterness hit me first. A good deal of grassiness. Pine and caramel notes. A little less hoppy than I had imagined. Alcohol is masked incredibly well for 9%.

Medium-bodied, not too much carbonation. A little syrupy.

Overall, one of the more underwhelming DIPAs I've had. Not bad, at all, but definitely wouldn't be my first recommendation.
