Well, this is number 100. Weyerbacher just arrived in MN not too long ago so I guess this is kind of special, no westy 12 but hey.
Poured into tulip
a: went a little crazy on the pour. Lookin at a two inch cream colored head but I can already tell it will have nice retention and lacing. The beer itself is a glowing dark orange that's pretty hazy.
S: the Aroma is sweeter than I expected with lots of sweet caramel and sugary odors in the front. Not a bad thing but I expected a nose full of hops. That's not to say they're not there, and the hop scent is very distinct with lots of tropical fruit to it.
T: first off I taste a strong toffee flavor quickly followed by a bitter punch and dried pineapple and mango. There's also some herbal hints but not so much piney as it is tea like.
M: I actually think this is where the beer shines. The flavor itself is not incredibly complex but the mouthfeel is nice and chewy and the favorable flavors stick around for a while.
D: well hidden 9%. Most would say they'd have only one but I'd have two.
O: Would like to try this either fresher or on tap but still very glad to get to try this and it has me even more excited to use simcoe for the first time in a homebrew. Weyerbacher is good stuff and I cAn't wait to try more.

Bought an assortment case in Northeastern PA. Have had the Old Heathen and a couple other brews from Weyerbacher before, but their example of an Imperial IPA is incredible. The malt balances with the Hops to create one of the more drinkable IPA's I've had (particularly considering it's a daunting 9% ABV). Not overwhelmingly carbonated, a great choice for a summer beer!
