750ml bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a slightly hazy ruby/brown color. One inch white head settles into a thin slip. Not surprising, given the strength of the beer and the fact that it's barrel aged. Lacing forms delicate rings on the glass.

S: Scents of bourbon, vanilla, and oak are cut by fruity and spicy Belgian yeast. Figs, apples and cinnamon. A touch peppery too. Malt aromas of bread and cake. Not a very complex nose, especially given the style, but it isn't bad.

T: Fruity at the outset, with tastes of tart cherry, raspberry, dates, and figs. Spicy flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and pepper next. Spike of spicy alcohol (separate from the barrel's bourbon contribution). Malt tastes of brown bread, crust, and cake. The barrel kicks in mid palate with a drying toasted oak presence, vanilla, and warming bourbon. Slight hints of cocoa and smoke. Dry finish of toasted oak and crusty bread.

M: Moderately thick in body with a slightly viscous and chewy texture. Moderate carbonation helps to lift it and make it just a bit more well-rounded in the mouth. Alcohol is very warming. Not a bad mouthfeel, but it feels as though it needs just a bit more dimension.

O: It probably won't win any awards. It won't generate hype or have beer geeks sweeping it off the shelves. In fact, at the end of the day, it's a pretty average bourbon barrel aged quad. Not very complex, and a little rough around the edges. A touch hot, but not quite enough to be offensive. But at $8 for a 750ml bottle, I feel as though I got my money's worth. Maybe I'm just in a 'glass half full' kind of mood today.

750ml Bottle. Reviewed on 6-24-12.
Weyerbacher always does magical things when they oak age any of their brews. The only thing I see any setbacks with this brew is the appearance. This is "too clean" to be a Quad. It might be from me grading it on the first half (Since this is the 750ml Corked and Caged.) I was looking forward to an ugly brew, yet I found a clean Quad. Other than the appearance, I found this to be enjoyable.

Poured from caged cork bomber

A - Dark copper Brown, like a well aged penny Brown. Cloudy, with little to no head

S - whiskey a go go. Love it dark fruit and sweet boozy Bourbon

T - smooth vanilla and whiskey. Mild yet very satisfying. Medium mouth feel. Ni

M - smooth, rich, slightly boozy. Different from any quad I have tried, but I love it.

O - next spring, I will buy a dozen of these. Really outstanding, a great experience, highly recommended.

750ml bottled 5/6/2013. Served in a goblet.

Appearance: Pours a dark, rusty orange/brown color with almost no head to speak of save for a thin light collar. Body is nearly opaque.

Smell: Booze soaked dark fruit, bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar, red grape skins.

Taste: Big malt sweetness with flavors mirroring those in the aroma. Bourbon soaked raisin and fig, brown sugar, hint of red grape and caramel.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel. Low levels of prickly carbonation. Booze is there, but masked well.

Overall: Another solid beer from Weyerbacher. Strays away from a traditional quad, but still a really good beer.
