Pours the color of caramel with some yeast floating around at the bottom. Fairly thick in appearance with a fizzy cream-colored head that quickly fizzles out to a bubbly appearance on top.
I first get a bit of sour fruits (plums maybe) along with a bit of caramel & bananas. Alcohol quickly hits my nose and a bit of oak barrel. Interesting.
Sipping reveals a fairly yeasty flavor along with some slight banana flavors backed up on the swallow by a dose of alcohol. A little "funky" to me. It could be perfectly normal but this is a very different brew that I can't "read". Some caramel also there, but the yeast gives way to the banana flavors and then some booziness. A bit disappointing really. Not much on the back end.
Medium bodied, but it gets a bit watery on the back end of the swallow while the booze seems to come through AS you swallow.
Overall, I picked this up in a beer store in Mass, and I had to have it being from PA. One of the more disappointing brews that I've had from Weyerbacher, whom I've come to expect much more from over the years. However, not a BAD brew, just not as wonderful as I hoped for.
