Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue VII:
We love the twist on the style "Double Dunkelweizen Ale," not to be confused with a Dunkel Weizenbock. You say, "What's the difference?" Time to find out.
Hazed leather-brown color, fine-bubbled pillowy head wraps a few rings of lace on the glass after each gulp. Thick aroma of brown bread, toasted bread crust, faint clove and some very ripe bananas. So incredibly smooth and crisp within the lush full body. Heavy handful of malt with each taste, big toasted bread flavors up front with a little bit of creamy sweetness. Spicy clove and a warming alcohol hit middle to end and balance the malt out a touch. Semi-dry spicy and toasted biscuit finish.
While we really like Dunkelweizens, we now know for sure that we love Double Dunkelweizens. The beer gods have blessed us with this beer; to hell with it only being available once a year--it needs to be year-round!
