Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. 09/13/08.
Pours thick and pitch black with about a finger and a half of chocolaty brown head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, Belgian yeast, alcohol, and cherry.
Taste is interesting. Lots of bitter dark chocolate and way heavy on the roasted (almost burnt) malt. Also a bunch of Belgian yeast flavor, and plenty of darker fruits (mostly fig), and a hint of cherry. The alcohol is definitely present, unpleasantly so. Unfortunately, the nice Belgian flavor gets overpowered by the roasted/burnt flavor and the fusel alcohols. Interesting taste, but I'm not a big fan of it.
Feel is thick and smooth. Full bodied with somewhat low carbonation. It's pretty heavy, and has a strange aftertaste. Drinkability is not so great. The alcohol makes no attempt to hide itself, and the roasted/burnt flavor is just too powerful. I don't think I'll be able to finish the bottle.
Overall I'm not impressed. The heavy alcohol and burnt-ness just kills it for me. And it's a bit pricey ($8 for 22 oz).

Bottle pour at mrbubbler's tasting.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and char aromas. Taste is much the same with char, dark fruit, and slight soy sauce flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is fairly drinkable but showing definite age at this point.
