Corked and cage 750Ml from the boys at Weyerbacher. I'm always eager to try their beer. While not always the best in class, they cover a wide spectrum of styles and typically produce a quality product.
This beer pours much more hazy then I remember from the regular Double Simcoe, which is to be expected given that it is unfiltered. Pours a nice light brown amber, with some light corn yellow creamy head that rests as a layer on top.
The smell is ridiculously fresh. Tons of simcoe hops produce incredible fresh citrus flavors. Nice ripe grapefruit matched with a fresh pine scent and a little bit of lemon. The sweetness of the 2-row sticks out quite a bit as well and adds some balance.
The taste goes hand in hand with the smell. Very piney grapefruit flavors. Huge malt bill really adds some substance to the overly pronounced hop profile. Incredibly sticky. There is some heat on the tail, but nothing concerning. A little bit of a lingering grainy taste in the mouth. All in all, this is a really good double IPA thats ties some west coast flavors with some east coast goodness.
