Grabbed a bottle of this for my wedding beer tasting, and was pretty excited to give it a shout. Seems like it needs a little aging or something to take the edge off. Served in a snifter glass.

Pours oily black with big foamy head that disappears almost instantly. Head is tan, and leaves nice lacing on the glass that lingers nicely. Nose is a little heavy on the alcohol to me, otherwise is smoky with some subtle chocolate notes that keep things somewhat interesting.

For a blegian strong dark, this one lacks some of the strong flavor notes I would hope for and expect. Heavy on the alchohol burn, subtle chocolate, very light dark fruit, and a little brown sugar. Medium body, but just has a bit of an oily mouthfeel, with strong carbonation. You definitely feel the 12% ABV here, and it isnt beneficial to the drink.

Tiny, which pours so black that even a thin layer of it is almost entirely opaque, opens with a nose that most Imperial Stouts can only dream of: huge layers of port, fig, caramelized brown sugars, vanillas, charcoal, cognac, and raisin abound, along with a smoky sweetness that is absolutely enticing and alluring. Judging by the smell alone, this is the kind of beer that would not only make a good offering to the deity of your choice, but would actually result in that deity praising you in return. Rarely have I encountered such a delicious aroma.

On the tongue, the beer blessedly lives up to the promise of the nose, bringing ripe dark fruit flavors such as fig, black cherry, and raisin, as well as vanilla and anise spices, all atop a surprisingly subtle layer of ash, coffee, and chocolate/black malt. Admittedly, as the sugars die off late in the mouthful these latter, more charred flavors come through, but even then they're still subtle and nuanced. The beer in many respects tastes more like fine aged port, or good cognac, with touches of bourbon. Subsequent mouthfuls reveal a deeper layer of alcoholic sugars, adding to the sensation that this is more liquor than beer (the 11.8% ABV handily adding to this presentation). The aftertaste is a cognac-and-bourbon-like charcoal and alcohol breeze, tempered by brown sugars and fig & raisin juice, and lingers for quite some time. Mouthfeel is medium (surprisingly light, given the potency of the flavors), and carbonation is medium-light, giving the beer a silky feel.

Overall, this is excellent Imperial Stout, and certainly worth a try for lovers of the style. The beer is not without imperfections, as the sugars do somewhat overwhelm the coffee-and-ash flavors, and the high ABV does leave an alcoholic vapor on the tongue, but even those details are relatively easy to deal with. I suspect this would age beautifully.

Pours nearly black, settles in the glass like ink, leaves a one inch brown head that has good retention. Leaves a low amount of lacing behind.

The smell is dominated by the alcohol, notes of oats and molasses, fig like fruity notes.

Taste hits you with the alcohol, malty start, takes on a mellow roasted tone, for the finish, hints of coffee or bitter chocolate. Leaves a noticeable burn from the alcohol behind.

Full bodied, creamy and smooth, the alcohol is mellow, it is detectable but does not cause any real harsh reactions. The throat burn lasts for a good time after a pull, only real negative here.

Not a bad stout, but would prefer more emphasis on flavor and less on ABV.

Weyerbacher's Belgian-Style Imperial Stout appropriately and ironically entitled Tiny. Weighing in at an incredible 11.8% ABV. This is no sissy chugging beer. You will demand for your taste buds to sip all the complex layers of port, fig, brown sugars, vanillas, charcoal, cognac. It's smokey sweetness and jet black flavor are only fantasy to most other Imperial Stout companies. I can not wait to break into another bottle.

Poured into a tulip glass pitch black,oil slick black with a two finger fluffy mocha colored head that settled very slowly.A great mix of dark fruit,molasses,and bitter chocolate in the nose,even a hint of roasted nut shows thru,decedent and lush.A little prickly in the mouth with the carbonation being higher,flavors are a bit hot with big dark fruit flavors,bitter chocolate,and licorice dominating.A good beer, its hot but not over the top sweet,the alcohol does hit hard after awhile though.

A - Tar black, slow forming thick cocoa colored head, fairly high carbonation. Attractive and interesting.

S - Lots of malty chocolate, a bit of coffee, with a definite Belgian yeast aroma.

T - Amazingly this tastes almost exactly what you would imagine it to. A big bold imperial stout with all the chocolate and some coffee along with some underlying dark fruit, spice, and Belgian yeast. Almost tastes like a blend of stout and dark strong ale. There is a nice pleasant alcohol kick at the end without it tasting boozy.

M - Viscous and velvety, heavy body cut at the end with some carbonation and definite alcohol warmth.

O - A very interesting beer, what would have been a good imperial stout is given a twist using a Belgian yeast. I like it a lot.

Poured this one into a snifter. It poured a rich dark molasses black with a medium sized brown head that dissipated on the quick side, leaving very little lacing. It smelled of heavy roasted malts with a mix of smoke, chocolate, light fruit, and a overwhelming hit of alcohol. But surprising is that the alcohol is not overwhelming upon tasting. Your taste buds are struck by a rich chocolate malty flavor with a mix of a sweet fruit and molasses mixed in with the roasted malts. As the sweet and malty flavor vanishes you are hit with a small taste of alcohol comes it but doesn't stay around very long. This is a very full bodied brew with a rather light carbonation and a nice warming pheeling in the back of the throat. All in all this was a very enjoyable brew that in the end will leave you with a full stomach and a great buzz. Would buy this one again.

In a snifter the beer was a black color with a thick mocha head that dissipated fairly quickly.
Nice aroma of sweet chocolate, roasted malt. A peppery alcoholic odor was also present.
The sweet chocolate aroma became more of a dark chocolate taste. Some espresso, a little vanilla. Alcohol was very well hidden.
I didn't think it was as "silky" as the label advertised, but it was still a rich and rewarding beer.

Pours a pitch black with a huge, chocolate milk colored head that fizzles away quickly. Smells mostly like a belgian quad with some roasted malts. Banana, belgian yeast, raisins, alcohol fumes. Taste follows suit....banana estery, that belgian yeast, roasted malts, huge overripe dark fruits like figs and prunes. Alcohol warmth in the finish. Good body, pretty heavy and viscous in the mouth, still a bit tingly despite the body. Velvety smooth. This is quite enjoyable actually and rubs off in the drinkability factor. Better than what was expected and definitely recommended. I can only see this getting a lot better with some time on it to allow it to mellow out and allow the flavors to integrate a little more.

Ha ha, very funny Weyerbacher..."Tiny" is HUGE!

Bomber, caged and corked, it was a bitch to get the cork out and she opened with a fairly huge "POP"

Dead of night BLACK, huge dark tan head, fades slowly to a velvety fine film, thick collar and ample bands and bits of lacing.

Nose is chock full of black coffee, bitter chocolate and dark malts.

Nose flavors carry on to the palate, with lots of dark chocolate, tastes and feels like a thick bourbon milk shake, loaded with rich flavors.

Silky smooth and thickly yummy on the tongue and coating the mouth.

Fine night capper or with a rich and gooey chocolate dessert.

Alcohol well hidden somehow.

Well done, huge stout fans rejoice

Thanks to djrn for sending me this bottle.

The beer pours a black color with a dark brown head. The aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malt, with a little bit of licorice also thrown in. The flavor is more complex. I get some nice anise and chocolate notes, with some roasted malt also in there. As the beer warms, I start to get some smoke and dark fruit notes, as well as a little bit of Belgian yeast. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A nice Belgian stout, glad I got to try this one.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Snifter.

Appearance: Purplish-black with diminishing tan head and light lacing.

Smell: Musty and earthy, with coffee, plum and clove.

Taste: Even more earthy and musty than the aroma with strong coffee-accented roasted notes. Some plum- and cherry-like characteristics as well, with a nice spicy clove kick toward the finish.

Feel: Full body but still has that Belgian sugar accented body that is not as full as the abv would suggest. Moderately low carbonation but still seems somewhat effervescent. I know this seems a little contradictory, but I get that from Belgian yeast sometimes. Fairly dry earthy finish that is very warming.

Drinkability: Pretty easy to kill off the 750ml despite the almost 12% abv. It seems a lot of people think this is too much like an Imperial Stout with just a touch of Belgian yeast. I disagree completely; I think this is a great BSDA with a more roasted character. And this is just miles better than Weyerbacher's overly sweet Quad.

Bottle purchased from Green's on Ponce in Atlanta.

Pours black with a one-finger brown head. One of the darker heads I've seen in a while recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of robust roasted malts, dark molasses, and cocoa powder. Very mild hints of booze-soaked cherry aromas waft out as the beer warms and the molasses gains some steam as well.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Big sweet molasses flavors with roasted malts backing things up kick things off. Following are mildly chalky unsweetened chocolate flavors that sneak in for a moment before giving the stage back to molasses with hints of dark fruits - black cherries and plums. The ending is mildly bitter and leaves a bit of an alcohol burn lingering.

Mouthfeel is very good. It's got a real nice thickness with carbonation that decreases (in a good way) with each successive pour.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass quickly and could have another without much of a problem.

Overall I thought this was a well done beer but I think it could benefit from aging. The flavors are a bit too far on the sweet side right now for this beer to be anything more than very good, but it's still worth a shot.

Tiny certainly doesn't look it, though Weyerbacher's price points for their 750s might be what they're referring to. This one is black, heavily viscous and rich-looking, with as dark brown a head as ever I've seen on a beer. Retention is good, and it takes its time fading down from a full finger and never fully does. As the beer falls in the glass, its walls are coated with hefty patching to evidence what was.
The aroma is strong, and it's got some unexpected complexities. Sure, it smells like a stout, and a rich one at that. It's got lots of roast, coffee and cocoa, in a note powdery dry while a bit of creamy sweetness counters. But it's also got lots of dark fruits in a rich port-like undertone with a hint of smoke and molasses for a smell that really makes me want to taste it.
And it's even better. All of the richness, depth and complexity comes together with a bit of booze and even some tannins along with the cocoa powder dryness, anise and creamy sweetness. Such rich dark fruits underscore the beer the entire way. It works together deliciously.
The mouthfeel is thick, rich, creamy and sweet but with that added dryness eases off of being too rich or heavy. It never loses its smoothness, and light carbonation keeps up.

750ml corked and caged bottle poured into a goblet.

A: Pours a pitch black with a 2.5 finger dark tan head. One of the darkest colored heads I have seen. Menacing and I like it. Head lasts but no lacing on the glass.

S: Can get some dark fruits, chocolate. Grapes and cherry, certainly a fig smell in there.

T: Starts off with some alcohol with hints of dark fruit, then mellows to a stout, transforms into a belgian then finishes with some hops.

M: This one has a full body. Creamy, silky, smooth. Very warming and certainly a sipper. Alcohol isnt scared to show its face.

Overall one intense beer, very enjoyable. Wouldnt mind some bourbon or oak notes. Certainly a direction that this beer needs to head it.

As I was doing a side by side I had to poor this one in a mug. It says belgain style imperial stout, humm ok and I go to review it and its a BSDA, go figure anyway who cares. Tim Webb would call this a stout or a brown ale, or a Strong brown ale. I am thinking they had a few Oerbier's or de dolle's extra stout?? and they tried to clone that? ok enough bs

A: dark dark RIS like stuff, in fact I think this is a RIS and everyone is just wrong on the style. anyway a hard pour got a dark brown 3 inch head that did not last more than 45 seconds at 55f.

S: alcohol, its a damn RIS I tell you!!! I get burnt chocolate malt, some leather like back end notes. coffee about it i can tell. the alcohol over powers most everything.

T: heavy burnt dark bitter chocolate, and dark roasted and semi burnt coffee, lots of booze, again its a RIS. its ok but I never buy it again

m: heavy stuff man, not much carbonation

d: well I did drink 750ml but only because I hate to waste beer.

I've seen dark brown almost to the point of black but this is freakin black as a no moon midnight. Extremely rich dark brown layered mahogany dense head. Tis a thing of beauty.

Aromas of sweet cream, malty, cocoa powder, hops and a candy store.

Big on character, vanilla, dark/bakers chocolate, bitter hop and coffee roast.

Heavier body and clean finish. I enjoyed this better at cooler temps.

Magnificent depth and character needs to be repeated. At $7.49 a 1 pint 9 ounce bottle and 11abv, this is a no brainer-ALL DAY LONG! Goodnight Irene.

Pours nearly headless from the get-go. A mocha head is formed, about a quarter inch thick, but it disappears with a quickness, which speaks to the 11.8% alcohol we're dealing with here. Color is an appropriately dark matter ebony.

The aroma is incredibly grape-y/vinous. It's bright and sweet and almost more like grape juice than any sort of stout. I do get hints of toasted grain and Belgian yeast, but they're buried. Fine, but doesn't do the beer justice in this department.

Still vinous on the tongue, but with a more pronounced chocolate character, a hint of nut-flavored coffee, and just the right amount of alcohol to provide warming, and to light a small fire under the ass of the flavors. Lightly medicinal, but herbal and spicy, it's still a grape-dominated flavor. If they're going for a Belgian-style stout, which the label says it is, then Tiny works better in that realm than as an American Double/Imperial Stout. Whatever, that's just splitting silly hairs anyway. But the Belgian stout-ness is confirmed in the feel, which is generously carbonated, caressing the tongue with zillions of tiny bubbles, and only just slightly sticky. Good heft, but not heavy.

Tiny is likely intended as an ironic moniker, but it's not a total misnomer, as this beer has elements of smaller, more sessionable beers. But a better name probably would have been Gentle Giant --- clearly big but not quite as beastly as many other stouts its size. Another rather good entry from Weyerbacher, though not among their total best either...

Jet black with a dark brown head, kept supple and lacy with the rampant upfront carbonation, but receding towards bald as the CO2 fades.
Thick, molten dark chocolate aroma, with a shot of espresso, and spiked with prunes, cloves, and and warming Sherry notion. Short form: it smells like a chocolate liqueur.
Chewy fudge and French roast coffee blast into the mouth. The nose was a bit closed, but it blows the doors open on the tongue. Equally, massively sweet and acrid bitter. Dark cocoa, anise, prunes, dirt, toffee, char, cloves, 10-hour old burnt coffee, granite, crushed aspirin, Sherry, and an array of dried herbs. It concluded with some lingering tannic bitterness, dirt, coffee, and alcohol, in a Pinot Noir sense.
This is black hole dense, but carries the buzzing carbonation typical of a Belgian Ale (which is remarkable from a US brewery, because very few get it right).
This aerated chocolate booze broth drinks far easier than it has any right to. In most regards, it's too much of everything. Too sweet, too bitter, too confused at times, too boozy. But somehow this congeals into something vastly enjoyable.
With a couple years of age, this could be fucking mindblowing.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a "Belgian-Style Imperial Stout," but this was a freakin' revelation.

Poured a silky, midnight brown with a frothy, chestnut head. I like to see that much carbonation in a beer this big, for sure. Aroma of roasted cocoa and espresso, with something slightly sour - "vinous" as the bottle would describe. Hudson said he got a hint of tequila. The waft of the 11.8% is definitely noticeable in the nose.

More terrifically balanced roasted notes in the taste, with touches but not overpowering notes of coffee and bitter chocolate, with a strong vanilla character. The vinous quality really pulls everything else together - this is sweet without being cloying, with just a soft grapey sweetness, like it's been dashed with port. It doesn't crush the palate like many of its peers would but has plenty of character, depth, and flavor to entertain through an entire bottle. There isn't even a hint of the high ABV in the taste, and the velvety mouthfeel (another spot-on descriptor stolen from the label) is simply exceptional.

Delicious, delightful, drinkable -- almost a shame I shared it (kidding). I'm rushing out to buy another or twelve. A definite contender for the title of best beer I've ever had.

An impressive head of brown froth rises steadily as you pour "Tiny" into your glass. It forms an inch and a half or more of pillowy foam that lasts for quite some time above the black body beneath. It leaves walls of solid lace about the glass; and once the head has fallen it appears almost orange as it forms a ring along the sides of the glass.

The aroma is sugary and cocoa-ish with notes of dark fruit, backed by yeasty spice and roastiness. It's interesting, but it doesn't convey the complexity that's to be found in the flavor.

In the mouth the carbonation is released as the beer warms, foaming up and becoming pillowy before settling down to a smoother, almost velvety feel. It's a little bit much at first, but as you work your way through the glass and a bit of that carbonation is released it becomes much softer and smoother.

The flavor is complex, and certainly rich. It starts with candy (sugar and vanilla) and dark fruit (raisin, plum) with a bit of spice, then displays a lot of chocolate and cocoa across the middle, and ends with more candy-ish and spicy Belgian character. There are also some leafy hop flavors across the middle and throughout the finish, adding another component; and a contrast to the candy notes. It's sweet, but it's also dry, no doubt due in part to the yeasty spiciness and the drying alcohol.

But the alcohol is never really apparent (in your first glass) besides adding to the spiciness, which is fairly surprising for a brew of 11.8% abv, and lends greatly to its drinkability. The Belgian character also gives it more complexity and depth of character than might be expected, and there's certainly enough going on to keep it interesting.

Worth trying!

Full finger of foamy light brown/tan head; dark brown body is completely opaque. Decently lacy for a stout this thick.

Nose is quite pleasant, vanilla and a bit of bourbon, with a fair amount of booze. This is interesting... the nose seems more pleasant from further away, but up close; it's overpowering. The whiff from uncorking the bottle is especially nice.

Body is *powerful*: a ton of malt with sweet brown sugar and caramel-sweetened coffee. The finish is bitter (faint hops) and a hint of alcohol burn.

The mouthfeel is some fine-grained carbonation, enough to avoid syrup or overpowering taste, but I can imagine this being gorgeous on nitro.

This is impressive, but definitely for sipping. You really wouldn't want to finish a 750 of this alone. Foodwise, I could see this as an apertif with Swiss cheese maybe, as a dessert beer with something like creme brulee or apple pie, but this isn't one for a main course.

A- Poured into a snifter. Pours a dark black color with a creamy light tan head with great retention and lacing.

S- The aroma is sweet roasted malts with cocoa and espresso with some alcohol in the nose as well.

T- The taste like the aroma is incredibly smooth up front with some sweet roasted malts, cocoa and espresso flavors as well. There is some warming in the finish from the alcohol. It us hard to imagine 11.8% ABV in this one though, the alcohol is well hidden for the strength.

M- The mouthfeel is fantastic. Full bodied with a perfect amount of carbonation. Perfect for the style.

D- Overall, the name is misleading. Nothing "tiny" about this beer. I enjoyed it fresh and would love to see how well this will age after a few years. Recommended!

An extremely dark pour. Solid black. Maybe something lighter, like dark brown, around the edges but only if you're on Mercury looking directly at the sun. There's only a thin head, less than a finger, with the first pour. It's not much, but it's brown and doesn't retain all that well. Given the high ABV, not all that surprising.

Strong smell of alcohol. Bittersweet chocolate and a ton of roasted grains add to the mix. There's also a noticeable fruit scent, likely from the Belgian yeast strain.

The taste is really exceptional. It's a monster of a beer, but no one single flavor overpowers anything else. Lots of malt, I'm thinking several varieties caramel and chocolate. A bit of charred, roasty malt. Kind of has a burnt coffee taste, which I find appealing in a beer like this. Has to be a couple kinds of chocolatey things in here, based on the mouthfeel. Oh yeah, alcohol is certainly present.

Has a grainy feel. Strong alcohol, but not outrageous. Sweet and bitter chocolate. There's an earthy, full bodied feel. Hot finish, along with a faint bitter finish that's slightly dry, but makes your mouth water.

A sipper if there ever was one. Drink slowly, or better yet, share. Particularly at the holidays. It's a great beer. Relatively smooth given the strength, it won't punch you in the gut with hops or alcohol, but after a couple snifters, you'll know you've been drinking.

Tiny is onyx in color. Pitch black. Not a speck of light cuts through, even at the outermost edges. Impressive. A very dark mocha colored head covers the top. Carbonation looks active. It stands over two fingers tall, and holds steady for quite a while. Lacing was sticky and moderate in volume. Pretty impressive looking stuff.

The nose is alright. It smells like cocoa up front. There's a hint of roasted malts, but the chocolate seems stronger. Roasted coffee is there, but isn't overly strong. Coffee haters shouldn't shy away. Dark fruit notes are secondary. Smells mostly like plum. Belgian yeast is mildly noticeable. Needs to be stronger. Alcohol is there, but doesn't suggest nearly 12%. Not bad. Interesting to say the least.

The flavor is a notch better than the nose. It kicks off with a nice chocolate malt flavor. It's a little bittersweet and cocoa-esque. It's bolstered by a little roasted malt. There's a hint of a charred flavor. Roasted coffee is noted, but is definitely secondary. Dark fruit is noted, but is a little subtle. It does, however, complement the other flavors nicely. Belgian yeast has a light presence and needs to be stronger. Alcohol is there, and is a little warm. At 11.8%, what'd you expect? Finishes roasty and chocolaty.

Tiny has a body that's on the heavier side of medium. It's smooth, but isn't creamy by any stretch. Carbonation is definitely active, but feels light. Drinkability is above average. I like the flavor pretty well, but this beer is anything but tiny. It's a big, badass 11.8% abv monster. Proceed with caution.

Tiny is a pretty good release from Weyerbacher. I didn't really know what to expect from this "Belgian Imperial Stout." It tastes pretty good, but honestly would benefit a great deal from a stronger Belgian yeast presence. The stout flavors are good, but it just doesn't seem quite "Belgian" enough. Nitpicking aside, it's pretty good. Excellent value at about $8.00 for a 750 ml bottle. Grab one if you see it.
