Thanks to a generous BA for a sweet Weyerbacher hook-up!
Black. Yes, indeed. I like this. It produces a dark brown head of foam, almost three-fingers thick. This recedes to a surface covering foam. The lacing is in thick strands, but is quite slick.
A nice amount of roasted notes are balanced by a good presence of belgian yeast notes. Milk chocolate covered coffee beans. Over-ripened black cherries and a good hint of bananas, along with other dark fruit notes. Hints of a mild earthy component.
This follows the nose quite well. Lots of good roasty notes abound. They are offered balance by the dark fruit notes which bring a small dose of sweetness. Then, balance is achieved from the belgian yeast component. It brings banana flavor & sweetness (which is mild) and a nice, slightly drying, earthy quality. Light traces of marshmallow and leather. There is an almost cab-sauv quality to this; with the dryness and the dark fruits and the earthiness. It's delicious.
This has a beautiful full body. It has a medium level of carbonation, which works well for it. It has a nice hint of creaminess to it. It goes down like velour, all smooth and nice feeling.
On top of all of this, the 11.80%abv drinks like it's around half of that. It's 'big' enough that you probably wouldn't think about downing multiple bottles in a sitting, but drinks easily enough that you probably could, if you really wanted to. Very well done, once again, Weyerbacher!
