Poured into a snifter.
Appearance. Pitch black in color. Fills the snifter with coffee brown head upon the pour. This dissipates moderately fast in a cauldron of bubbles, leaving a thick layer on top of the beer.
Smell. A wave of floral yeast, that also has some clove in the background. This is eventually accompanied by some roasted malt and a lot of vanilla. Some alcohol is in there as well.
Taste. Starts out very fruity with dark sugar soaked cherries. Some of the vanilla comes in with the roastyness that was in the nose as well. Another wave of sweetness comes in that is more caramely. After this some of the more belgian characteristics come through, with some fruityness and spiciness especially. The finish is sweet with a lingering roasted malt.
Mouthfeel. Hugely thick in body, with a ton of carbonation. The carbonation dissipates very quickly though, for a while actually helping the mouthfeel. It really has about a 10 minute sweet spot. In the begining it has too much carbonation, and a prickly mouthfeel. After this it is just too flat.
This may have really turned me onto belgian imperial stouts, or maybe its just that enjoyable of a beer. Highly recommended, especially for the price.
