750ml bottle served in a snifter.
pours a thick, jet black tone while yielding a solid 1" mocha head that fades fairly quickly. a little patchy lacing.
the nose doesn't impress me very much. it's not bad, just a bit more muted than the bold, robust aroma i was expecting. notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and alcohol. some faint elements of dark fruits in the background.
flavor is an improvement. chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruit, molasses, belgian yeast, and coffee along with a big booziness. also has a certain tartness to it. certainly interesting.
rich, full bodied mouthfeel with medium carbonation. the definition of what i'd call chewy.
overall a definite sipper, and a tasty one at that. i'm not head over heels but it is good. booze is not as well-hidden as i would like. on the plus side it's pretty reasonably priced, all things considered.
