Thanks, Kyle, for sharing this one with me you big lug.

A - Clear reddish mahogany with a long lasting, whitish fluffy head. Lots of lacing.

S - Bready/toasty malts, with a lite floral hop character. Otherwise quite clean.

F/M - Bready malts, lite sweet pilsner malt flavors. Floral hops with a medium-low hop bitterness. Clean, dry finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

D - Good, clean, dry and quite refreshing. This would make a great summer time brew. I could probably drink a couple more of these.

On-tap at the Brick Store.

Pours a slightly hazy burnished brown color with a one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of crisp caramel malts that have a lightly toasted quality. As the beer warms the aroma sweetens a bit.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Singed caramel malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by syrupy toffee flavors. Midway through the sip thicken a bit and become a tiny bit bitter, allowing very small amount of leafy hop flavors to work their way in. The ending is on the sweet side though it also manages to be slightly dry.

Mouthfeel is good. It has a solid thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall I thought this was a very good attempt by a US brewer of the style - I only wish I'd tried more in order for a more precise comparison. Still, it stacks up with others that I've had from Europe - well worth a shot.

On-tap at Tap and Table on 5/6/10. Oh, this is a dopple-sticke? It reminded me more of Leffe Blonde than Uerige. It opened with tart cherries and then was followed by cocoa and biscuit malts with a hint of acid. Maybe it's just the fruitiness and mouthfeel, but it doesn't matter. This is a tasty beer.

amber in color with copious amounts of carbonation bubbling up toward the surface throughout. Nice white head on top, maybe an inch and a half before settling down to coat the inside of the glass for a minute. Interesting aroma, mix of grains, light bready malts, and a touch of a grassy, herbal hoppiness. Nothing crazy here but nicely balanced. Same could be said for the flavor, nice pale taste, light bready notes balancing a herbal sort of hop. Lightly sweet

A-Pours an amber/ruby color with almost no head, just a thin ring of bubbles.

S-Milk chocolate, lightly roasted malts, circus peanut candy.

T/M-The best yet from this series. Roasty and medium bodied, with an appealing milk chocolate sweetness. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

D-Easy drinking and tasty. While the other beers from this line-up have been all over the place, the Juliet is a beer that attempts a simple style successfully, resulting in a highly drinkable beer.

It poured a dark brown that shows ruby up to the light, with a decent head fingers width of head.

The aroma is intriguing, roasted malts and caramel.

Taste is the right kind of roasted bitterness, with hints of caramel. The flavors are quite pronounced, and the finish is a nice lingering roasted coffee bean.

The mouth feel is only medioce, in the sense that I do not really notice it until the finish, and even then its only the effects of the carbonation.

Its rather drinkable but not sure if I could pound one of these after another.

Pours a hazy orange-ish to brown color with a light tan head. In the aroma, small fruitiness and a small dry yeasty malt. In the taste, a fruitier malt, white grape and small lemon zest like, and a small hop bitterness. Mainly smooth and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a semi dry fruit like aftertaste. A small hint of tart fruitiness and small roast like, yet still a lager.

The aroma is citrus, floral, & a bit hoppy. The appearance is light to golden yellow with good quarter inch white head with good retention. Taste is malty in front, coffee in back. The floral character is there. There is also faint tart cherries with blueberry notes. Mouthfeel is nice, light, & nice carbonation. Drinkability is good; could knock a few back on a hot summer day.

Liked it, but didnt love it

Weyerbacher Juliet. A so-called "Double Alt"

Appearance: A murky brown in color with a small off white head.

Smell: Some floral hops and the smell of a rustic bakery.

Taste: An even balance of malt and hops. Some oak notes giving off earthy wood flavors and roasted malt adds to this. Hops are there with a sharp piney bitterness. Alcohol is nowhere to be found, making for an easy drinking experience.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied and well carbonated. Smooth.

Drinkability: Pretty good. A double alt with a good deal of complexity. This beer can stand up to a cigar.

Pours a very nice, enticing dark brown color, with a good amount of tan head that quickly recedes. I honestly had no idea what style this was until I looked on here. Nice malty nose, with some select dark fruits and some dark brown sugar. On the palate, this one is fairly sweet, with caramel, sweet cherries and some decent maltiness. Not a bad outing from Weyerbacher, a consistently solid brewery.

Brown with a thin, off-white head that pretty much disappears in minutes, leaving a ring of foam around the edge that leaves lace that traces down the sides of the glass.

Caramel and toasty malt dominate the nose with a slight hoppy citrus and an even slighter spice scent of anise or cloves.

What you smell is mostly what you get from the malt: toast and sweet caramel on the tip of the tongue. Cloves and alcohol heat tickle the top of the palate and a citrus (grapefruit) bitterness comes from the back of the tongue. This tastes like a drier version of German bock, but using hops from the American Northwest...probably Cascade.

The hops leave more of an aftertaste than common with an altbier, but the medium body is spot on for the style. A good amount of carbonation is present.

This is a nice altbier for Americans, meaning that it has a stronger hop characteristic than what a German brewmaster would deem acceptable, but what most American palates long for. The hops add a nice balance to a style that can be too dominantly sweet for New World palates.

I plan to cellar a few of these for a year or two (which the 8.5% ABV should allow) to see how if the balance gets any better and the bitterness disappears.

Had a bottled version and poured into my Weyerbacher Tulip Glass.

A - Pours a rich, deep burgundy-brown color with a pinky size off white head, with mild to moderate carbonation. The color could be best described as a raisin color.

S - Aroma is sweet malt and a little bit of dark fruit. There's not much going on in the nose with this one, but that's typical of Altbiers.

T - Has some mild chocolate character, roasted malt that's not too strong, has some dark fruit character with a touch of caramel, and is assertively hoppy.

M - Medium body, crisp, clean, and almost "lager-like". Finishes dry and very faintly fruity.

D - Very good

Actually, it's a Doppelsticke style which is pretty much a German Altbier on steroids. That being said, the ABV falls a little short for beers of this style as they're typically around 8.5%. Overall, it's one I'd like to have a few six packs around for the summer months because even though it's a dark beer, the crisp, clean taste is refreshing. I'm thrilled to see an American brewer tackle this style of beer because it's one I haven't seen many of coming from the U.S. Nice job, Weyerbacher!

Poured into a snifter it appears a clear dark amber brown color with a finger of creamy tan head. Fair retension and patches of lace cling all along the glassware. The nose of this brew is a very sweet mixture of floral hops blended with a yeasty fruitiness and caramel malt. Taste includes the flavor of caramel malt along with a slight touch of chocolate flavor that finishes with a bit of an earthy/musty flavor almost like stale coffee. The combination of fruity yeast and floral hops are just as evident in the flavor as the nose. A bit of bittering hop are present in the finish to balance out the sweetness of this brew. Medium feel with a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a lingering flavor of fruity yeastiness and bitter herbal hops left in the mouth. The 8.5% alcohol is noticeable with its warming ability but not very evident in flavor. The strange mustiness of this brew hurts the drinkability a bit but all in all it was still an enjoyable brew.

Pours a dark chestnut brown color with minimal head from a straight pour. Only some swirls of lace last.

This beer was a little odd. BA lists it as an altbier, but it is high abv, and hoppy. It kind of reminded me of a well hopped bock or dopplebock. I wasn't personally digging it, and I think there is a good reason this style doesn't exist yet.

The aroma has concentrated malt, caramel, toast, and figs. The hops bring a herbal, tree and wood aspect. The flavor has even more concentrated sweetness, which is long and sweet with a touch of nutiness.

The mouthfeel has carbonation on the low side, and is a bit syrupy for my liking. This wasn't a bad beer, but I wouldn't get it again.

A - Pours a nice, deep copper body with some ruby highlights and clarity...a two finger, off white head forms and shows decent retention...nice lacing

S - Sweet caramel and toffee dominate the nose...an earthy hop and grainy malt aroma as well

T - The sweetness stays with the flavors...caramel and toffee again dominate with a blast of sweetness...it also provides a touch of roastiness...in the middle there is a fruity presence but I can't put my finger on a specific fruit that stands out...the earhty flavor comes through at the end...there is also a bit of hop bitterness at the very end

M - Medium bodied...sometimes comes up a tad thin...a touch of creaminess...but there's something that is keeping my from scoring it higher

D - This was a good concept of an "imperial" alt...the alt characteristics where there with the caramel malt sweetness and a touch of earthy hops...the alcohol doesn't come through too much...another nice one-off by Weyerbacher

Of all places, I had this on tap at a Pizzeria Uno. Kudos to this chain restaurant for offering a variety of microbrews.
Poured a deep brown with a reddsh hue and a nice white head with thin sticky lacings. Sweeet malty aroma with faint hints of chocolate. Nice smooth feel, with smeet toasted malt flavors, slight chocolate character and a very faint coffee flavor at the end.
I had a few of these and it was very drinkable. A surprising find that was toroughly enjoyable.

Appearance: Pours a n ice tea brown color with a massive head; quite a sticker, with a number of lace shards

Smell: Caramel and grain

Taste: Caramel and dark fruit on the opening, with raisin and date flavors; surprisingly hoppy, however, by mid-palate (wasn't expecting that from this style but I like it); after the swallow, the sweeter flavors blend nicely with the bitter

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation; just a hint of warmth in the gullet

Drinkability: A really nice style bender from a brewery that is continuing to move in the right direction

Weyerbacher Juliet has a clear brown colored body with a thick-looking off-white head that leaves a little bit of lacing.

The aroma has a hint of floral hops along with a good bit of caramel malt, grain, and some fruit.

Juliet has a big malt base featuring flavors of lightly toasted caramel and syrupy toffee mixed with a little bit of grain flavors. The middle has a bunch of fruit, with cherries coming to mind in specific. The finish has a slight hop bitterness and a pretty good blast of alcohol warmth.

Juliet's body feels big and chewy, but it maintains a bit of smooth. Moderate to low carbonation.

Juliet is another solid big beer from Weyerbacher, and it goes down very easily for a beer with 8.5% ABV.

I poured this one into a tulip glass, and paired it with a nice medium rare steak I cooked up. A nice dark caramel color, with a thin tan head that disappears while you're having your first smell.

And it's a pretty nice first smell at that. A noticeable caramel odor from the roasted malt. But wait, there's more - I'm sensing a bit of a spicy undertone that doesn't quite get in the way. It's not bad at all.

First drink - It's sweet, almost faintly like licorice to me, along with the normal malty caramel flavor. There's also a spicy flavor to it, complimenting rather than overpowering the sweetness. The base of hops is also noticeable, it just doesn't jump out and announce itself. It just says to the drinker 'I'm here if you need me'.

I wouldn't drink this by itself - it went perfectly with my steak, though.
