L: hazy-murky orange, light passes through but it's otherwise opaque; the head is minimal, maybe 1/3-inch of offwhite to beige; keeps a decent collar

S: orange blossoms ... honeysuckle ... something sweet; some sour/tart citrus notes, possibly also some grass ... definitely lemons; it's hitting a bunch of notes, but the tart citrus note is the foundation

T: oranges, citrusy, grain ... lots of grain in there; the citrus notes are tart but sweet; over time it becomes almost saison-like -- very tart, dry, lemony ... and almost a pinch of clove or allspice

F: nice and crisp, plenty of carbonation despite a lackluster pour; a contender for perfect

O: hits the right notes for the style with a tart citrus theme augmented by a bit of sweetness here and there ... all the hop characteristics are in the flavor -- there's little to no bitterness. a good brew and solid attempt at a Belgian style that can be subtle and nuanced

07/25/13 On tap. At Rattle N Hum, NYC. Unique bittersweet pucker at first taste. Distinct pale ale characteristics. Some spice, but I can't pick them out of the line-up. Regardless this is a superb brew, mystery notwithstanding.

A: Pours a nutritious-looking amber, with murky, cloudy depths that speak to the Belgian yeasts and bottle-conditioning. Left the sediment / yeast in the bottom of the bottle, as is proper for this type of style. Head froths up nicely, 2 or 3 fingers in my snifter. Looks promising.

S: Aromas of very light bubble gum and tutti fruti. The Belgian yeast is all over the nose on this one. No noticeable alcohol smell on this one, which is not surprising for a <6% ABV, but reassuring nonetheless, since that turns me off. If you look (ok, SNIFF) really hard, you'll find some faint florals from the hops, and some earthy-spicy notes.

T: Taste is a nice blend of Belgian yeast, grainy, bready-ness, and a lively mix of other guests in this particular party. Starts mildly sweet, finishes with a balance of light sweetness dancing back and forth with the bitterness from the hops. The Belgian yeast lingers on the palate. The bubble gum and tuti-fruiti flavors are there in the background. A nice balance between light to medium malts and subtle hops, rounded out by the distinctness of the yeast.

M: Very nice. Medium bodied and soft, with a velvety foam on top.

Overall, a great example of the style and one that I'd like to come back to and try again.

Appearance - Medium copper color with an off-white medium textured airy head with some lace remaining after the head dissipates.

Smell - Lightly soured banana like fruit aroma followed by light sweet alcohol and spicy resiny hops.

Taste - Sweet malt and lightly soured fruit followed by sweet alcohol with a spicy resiny hop finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium viscosity that is clean and light feeling with moderate carbonation, light bitterness, and a mild alcohol warmth as the beer goes down.

Overall - Well balanced with a light feel and very good flavor that gets better as the beer warms closer to stout serving temperature.

A: champagne amber liquid, slight haze at first... about 1/2" of semi-compact sudsy foam forms, then soon recedes into a thin collar and even thinner island of small bubbles in the center... not too inspiring

S: juicy fruit gum or circus peanut - you smell it right away as the beer is pouring... very fruity... taffy-like... certain Duvel-like spicy phenolics take hold moments in

T: surprising toasty-sweet grain, or toasted-over caramel, or caramelized wood (but not smoky) - can't decide which - it does have an ember-y quality that lingers... potent smack of yeast spice in the immediate follow-through - though this does fade in intensity with each sip... perfumy spice in the aftertaste... the juicy fruit element slowly makes its way to the fore, eventually sitting in concert with the other flavors... you know what? it kinda tastes like alcoholic Irn-Bru!

M: pretty light and dry, thankfully (considering the threat of sweets suggested by the of its fruity aromas)... the phenols maintain a consistent, low glow heat in the center of the palate, emanating up into the nostrils... a super mild, juicy viscosity develops later on... it drinks fairly crisp and clean altogether

O: not a bad beer, though not exactly what I anticipated... the more you get into it, the more you recognize a characteristic Weyerbacher flavor - in part that sort of nut-shell, toasted-wood thing that I just recently noticed in their barleywine... interesting enough to try out once (in awhile)

Hazy, amber appearance with some orange hues. Decent head when poured, some lacing.

Floral bouquet with notes of spice.

Outstanding taste with floral and orange notes. Slight bitterness with a sweet finish.

Very smooth mouthfeel, not too much carbonation and light in the mouth.

Overall, an excellent beer.

Verboten has a hazy, peach and copper body with a large and dense, just off-white head. Head has great retention, becoming rocky as it recedes, and leaves heavy lacing. Most noticeable in the aroma is the expected spicy yeasty, with coriander and a bit of clove and pepper. Also has a good deal of fruit in it, including apple, banana, and lemon.

Taste starts with assertive and dry yeast, moving to white pepper and clove. Then banana, orange peel, lemon, and sour apple in the middle, with a dry, yeasty, slightly citric, crisp finish. Mouthfeel is light with very high carbonation, a touch of graininess.

Poured into a pilsner glass.

Appearance: Hazy redish orange, thick off white head but very little retention.

Smell: Citrus, yeast, and wheat.

Taste: Spices and yeast dominate the taste. Some sweetness.

Mouthfeel: High carbonation, smooth.

Overall: I bought a 6 pack of this beer and it took me until the last one to win me over. Yeast makes the beer here and it has a nice sweet taste. I would have it again.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a mildly hazy burnt copper color. Before the dregs were poured in, it was clear amber. There's about one and a half fingers of an eggshell-colored head, having that soapy froth expected from a Belgian-style ale. The lacing left behind is pretty decent.

S: This has plenty of fresh-cut apples, some hints of apricot, and a little pear, as well. The fruitiness here is good, and it's subtly backed by a bready yet spicy yeast note. I even pick up a kiss of hops. While the aroma is 'basic', there's no doubt it works quite well.

T: It starts off pretty fruity (apricots, apples, and pears mainly), before it's quickly replaced with bready notes. It finishes pretty spicy, as well: the black pepper and herbs I pick up slightly reminds me of a saison. But make no mistake, this isn't a saison. No real complaints apart from the lack of depth.

M: Any Belgian ale worth its weight in ghost chilies should always finish dry and somewhat fizzy - in layman's terms, it should feel like it's evaporating off the tongue. This one does that. However, it seems to rely too much on the powerful carbonation doing that job, as once that goes, its residue sticks around on the tongue a bit more than it should.

O: Another solid offering from Weyerbacher. They hit the basics bang on, but there isn't quite enough 'zing' to make this a stellar example of the style. Still, I'd drink it again.

12 ounce bottle decanted into an oversized snifter. 5.9% ABV.
Appearance: Weak, soda-like bubbles rising through a pool of murky amber. Zero head retention (2.25/5).
Aroma: Smells kind of dirty… funky, but not in the way you’d want it to be. A little citrus pith and toasted malt are cowering in the back corner, but that’s about it. I don’t know (2.75/5).
Taste: This doesn’t taste anything like I was hoping it would. I get some ruined malt followed by a bit of grassy hops on the back end. Maybe there was a decent Belgian Pale Ale in this bottle once, but if that was ever true it has since retired and died (2.5/5).
Mouthfeel: Thick and flat (2.25/5).
Overall: This poor bastard is yet another example of how poorly this style ages. I love that there are breweries out there making beers like this, but an “Enjoy By” date should be front and center. This embarrassment of a beer does not represent the style or the brewery with any class. It’s too bad (2.5/5).

Look - 2 Liquid has nice consistency, medium with a little less thickness. Small specs vissible floating around - looks gross
smell - 3.25 Nice spicey aroma, maybe good for a cooking. No/low Head.
taste - 2.25 - First sip is overwhelming with spice. Your tongue mellows out after that, but taste stays with you like a cigar.
feel - 2 Has nice consistency, but has bitters on the back of your tongue in the after taste which activates glands making mouth feel gross. Sipping beer to avoid aftertaste

Served on tap in pint glass

Appearance – Served an amber-orange colored brew with a thick and creamy off white head. The head fades slowly over time to leave a good level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is bready and yeasty with a moderately strong sweet aroma of candied sugar, caramel , banana and a bit of bubblegum. Mixing with these aromas are notes of a spiciness of clove and coriander as well as a little bit of a lemon smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a creamy- lightly roasted bready taste that has lots of candied sugar sweetness upfront. Straight off there are also flavors of banana, with a yeastiness quickly coming to the tongue more after the beginning of the initial taste. Coriander and clove soon follow suit with some citrus hop making its way on the scene as well. This mix of flavors takes the taste to its end where a very satisfying and smooth flavor is left on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The beer is on the thicker and creamier side for a beer of only 5.9 % abv with a carbonation level that is slightly lower than would have been anticipated for the style. It actually was quite nice for the bready and lightly roasted flavors of the brew with the overall mouthcoating feel produced by the combo of body and carbonation rather soothing.

Overall – A very tasty BPA. It had a fantastic taste and feel and is one I will certainly come back to again and again.

A: Amber-orange with small amount of head that dissipated quickly into a ring of bubbles.

12oz bottle poured into ale glass. Bottled on 02/05/13.

A-A pinky's fingers width of a white head that quickly receded back to the beer body. Leaves nice lacing that holds up while you drink it. The body is amber in color with an orange hue. Clarity is pretty hazy on this one. Looks like its unfiltered.

S-Defiantly get the full aroma of that Belgium yeast. Very effervescent. Get cloves and mild bubble gum up front in the nose. Burnt sugar breaks through. Really do not get any hop presence in the aroma.

T-Yeast is also the dominant factor for the taste as well. Overly yeasty with the taste. Cloves, very mild garlic taste and orange rind mixed in with it. Some staleness in there as well. Maybe some oxidation occurred? Leaves an unpleasant astringent aftertaste.

M-Medium high to high in body. Highly carbonated which is normal for Belgians.

O-This beer just doesn't do it for me. Leaves alot to be desired and is over powered by a Belgian yeast that I do not find pleasant. Over whelming in the taste and does not leave the mouth with a good finish.

Pours a hazy light brownish copper with a finger of head that dissipates quickly. The nose is floral and there is also a hint of cloves (surprisingly). The flavor is quite light with some hop bitterness. There is a trace of sourness in the finish that completes an enjoyable drinking experience.

Nothing fantastic here, but a solid pale ale that is awfully easy drinking for a 6.9% ABV

A: Hazy amber with almost no head.

S: Good aroma of spicy, musty yeast, little bit of lemon. Malt as the beer warms up.

T: Tangy spicy yeast, edging to sharp when it mixes with the alcohol. Tart rather than bitter.

M: Full, with almost no carbonation.

O: OK for the style, straightforward. Tastes like a Belgian beer without the dryness or thinner body of a tripel.

Lovely to behold in the glass with an head the color of aged plaster. Lots of lace on the sides and a decent retention and fade. A dusky orange fluid that has just a touch of cloudiness. Smell has lots of Pilsner malt and Belgian candi sugar, Hops are spicy and well developed but not overpowering. A touch of alcohol that leads to a spicy, peppery quality. Taste is superb with a big malt body that unfolds the layers of the grains in a delicious bready showcase. Candi sugar adds a refined sweetness and the hops are a wonderful surprise with an American persona. Feel is supple with a velvet carbonation and swallow. Superior drinkability makes me wish I had a bigger growler.

Appearance: This beer poured a small head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale orange color with good clarity due to the haze and visions of bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: Spicy yeast, bananas, sweet and bready malts, and a little bit of citrus notes too.

Taste: Citrus is a bit more noticeable, banana, clove, spicy, yeasty esters, sweet malts, bready malts, and bitterness that has become traditional with BPA's.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, hoppy bitterness, medium bodied, low to medium carbonation, and very enjoyable.

Overall: A nice BPA in my opinion. The yeast strain is a nice characteristic to the beer.

Undated 12 oz bottle poured into a Corsendonk chalice.

A: The deep amber liquid was fully covered by a short, dense and creamy tan head that had excellent retention and left my glass fully coated when tilted.

Above The aroma features banana/clove yeastiness, some alcohol esters, bready malt and some peppery spice, It's complex and rich, and seems to change every time I lift the glass. The flavor has more fruit and less pepper than the nose indicates. Moderate bitterness.

Excellent mouthfeel: Creamy smooth with very good carbonation (perhaps a tad aggressive) and a pleasantly full body.

O: True Belgian quality and character (allowing for some American hops) in an ale from Pennsylvania. [4.25]

This pours a hazy dirty copper color with a lingering off-white head. The scent is sort of yeasty mix with bananas. The taste starts off kind of sweet with lots of malt and banana flavors. As the flavors progress it turns into this yeasty, bread taste that finishes a little chalky with hints of caramel left behind. Quite smooth and refreshing making this a pretty decent brew.

Poured into my Weyerbacher Tulip glass from a growler filled at Joe Canal's Iselin

Appearance: pours a hazy orange yellow with a fairly active head that leaves a beautiful lacing as the head slowly dissipates. 

Smell: a slightly yeasty  floral aroma, very pleasant and very reminiscent of the good single Belgians. Some citrusy hints. 

Taste: a biscuity, fruity, mostly mild citrus flavors. A very nice flavor that pays nice tribute to the really good Belgian ales. 

Mouthfeel: a very normal amount of carbonation with a nice yeasty film and a very floral citrusy taste. Very balanced, and with no alcohol burn. 

Overall: this is a very good, almost great Belgian ale, very balanced and really tasty. I enjoyed the fresh growler fill more than I remember from the bottle. Belgian singles can get too yeasty at times ( in my opinion), this does a great job of being incredibly drinkable , and tasty. Give it a try if you find it. The Weyerbacher Tap Room is always a good place to taste it.

A: Cloudy amber with two-finger, white, foamy and creamy head that lasted several minutes. Good lacing.

S: Pine and citrus hops. Apples and spice.

T: Light sweetness and moderate bitterness. Subtle apple and spice. Finished with toasted notes.

M: Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation.

O: Solid Belgian Pale Ale.
