Pours very thick. Has a black color about it with about 1 finger high dense foamy head. It fades quickly to wispy trails inside a foamy ring. Moderate carbonation.
Aroma is of roasted malts chocolate malts with some burnt malts to boot.
It does have a nice sutle aroma of smoked malts, not overpowering but sutle which enhances the aroma of the beer.
The taste is very good. The first thing you taste is the smokeiness. It's not very assertive like raunchbiers, but sutle and enhances the flavor of the beer. Next you taste the malts, traditional roasted malts with chocolate and coffee flavors. Very sutle hints of fruit and a tad tart.
The beer finishes up with a slightly dry finish.
A full bodied beer here which is very smooth tasting and not gritty. It does have a big alcohol profile so beware.
A very good beer that will pair well with other smoked foods I think.
