Poured into a snifter.
4.5 A: Opaque yellow orange like a wheat. Almost three fingers of thick frothy head with great retention and lots of lacing.
4.5 S: Sweet and spicy. Big on light fruity esters. Phenolic clove and some banana. Pleasant flowery bouquet and a tad of pungency.
4.0 T: Big hit of spicy pepper right from the start. Then some banana and clove. Then a hit of boozy solvent. Hops are MIA. Lots of stuff don't well and nothing excluded.
4.0 M: Medium body. A little too much carbonation, even for the style. Otherwise, very smooth.
4.0 D: Not bad at all. I would go to this anytime if I were in the mood for a tripel.

Want to like because I love this east coast brewery's Imp Stout. Top rated.
So I came back after a bad first bottle and upped my review on a 2nd
A: Good looking pinpoint head and cloudy body. Avg retention and lacing. (not like a Belgian)
S: Smell is the best part. Lots of pear and orchard fruit with some overripe banana and lots of spice—cloves and coriander. Some bread and cracker with pepper too.
T: Follows the orchard smell: Apples, pears, bananas, bits of peach and plum. Peppery and clove offset the sweetness, but a bit too sweet. No real hop tingle or yeast earthiness. (balance is missing... too perfumey and sweet.)
M: Medium bodied, not enough tingle, definitely "Face Warming" as one review wrote.
O: I immediately went for strong cheeses to off set this one, like a dense huntsman, gouda, or comte. Enjoyed it with cheese and you will too as an AFTER DINNER, LATE NIGHT SIPPER.
FIRST REVIEW FOLLOWS
this tripel failed the 1st time for me. a 3.2
A: Bottle poured into pint glass left a wide bubble, quick failing head with no lacing. A second aggressive pour resulted in a short lived head. The body looks like unfiltered apple cider off the press. Lots of particulate, that apple press color.
S: More medicinal than any good trip. The alcohol, sugars, sweetness overwhelms, along with too much clove. Industrial, not organic. Fail.
T: Stale apple and banana black peel. then lots of clove and cookie dough, the alcohol dominates from thence on, resulting in the sweet sugary, bubble gum, candy rack finish. A bit cloying and too much alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Heavy, cloying, coating. Not inviting, not appetiizing. Had to try some Robusto cheese, but gave up. Not a food beer. Too high ABV and sugar results in sticky mouth finish.
Overall: A remake please! It's over the map; aggressive, boozy character, way too much sweetness and zero yeasty complexity or mystery. Unsubtle.
