Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: SheepNutz on 09-13-2001

Merry Monks, 9.3% ABV, is a Belgian-style Tripel. Pilsner malt combined with an Abbey yeast strain yields a remarkable and complex flavor packed with notes of spice, banana and pear. Nicely balanced, with a moderate to dry finish.

Merry Monks is bottle conditioned which imparts a special effervescence to the beer and a creamier carbonation. The ongoing fermentation inside the bottle will change the character of the beer as it ages and you’ll find it becomes dryer with age. You may want to lay down a few bottles for future evaluation. We suggest storing at cellar temperatures (around 55°F) and away from light.

This brew is available year-round. Keep your eye out for Merry Monks in 25 oz. cork-and-cage champagne bottles for an exceptional experience!

Put on tap in my home tap. Cask conditioned so nice and bubbly but has a very creamy nice mouthfeel. Beautiful cloudy tripel color. Initial smell is of bananas with a little bit of pear. Tastes like banana bubble gum. Very complex flavor and a nicely made beer. Flavor is clearly driven by the yeast which is appropriate for the style. Booze is present but not overpowering flavor. A good domestic tripel but if banana is not your preference for the dominant flavor in a belgian style then pick a different tripel (such as Fin Du Monde)

A- Beautiful in color, light in lacing and noticeable carbonation.

S- Yeast, Spice, and pear/apple, maybe some white grapes.

T- Light spice up front and in the finish, some light fruit in the middle. Its ok.

M- Light and easy, drys out on your tongue pretty nice.

O- Average triple, worth getting if the price is right.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into pint glass.
Aroma- A very sweet aroma of malt and fruit.
Appearance- A darker shade of gold with a small white head.
Taste- Has a very sweet initial flavor of fruit, the alcohol is well disguised and I enjoyed the additional spices tossed in.
Palate- this is a medium bodied beer with mild carbonation. Has a mildly creamy texture that suits the flavor.
Overall- A pretty good beer, I think this is a good American take on a tripel.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with two dates: 11/05/14 and 11/05/16. I presume bottling and expiration dates. Sampled on March 9, 2015

Medium but cloudy amber-orange pour with a soft, foamy white head.

The aroma comes on strong with its Belgian toasted malts, pear, coriander spice, and a touch of booze.

Medium to heavy body.

Definitely has a nice peppery bite to the flavor along with toasted malts, coriander, Allspice, and an assertive bitterness. Booze is less noticeable in the taste. This will warm one up.
