Enjoyed on 11/25 at The Old Eagle Tavern. Reviewed from notes. Served in a pint glass.

This limited release from Weyerbacher has a chalky, black body with a brown coaster of foam on top. Carbonation is slight, as is the quickly receding lacework.

Aroma packs tingly, ground coffee notes and faint chocolate bar sweetness.

Flavor opens with the roasted bite of espresso, followed by a vanilla and chocolate finale that brought to mind everything from a milkshake to birthday cake. It's quite lactic, but it never goes over the edge into excess and the dryness manages to maintain some balance.

Mouth never strays from an all-encompassing smoothness, which can be a bit one-note, especially with the mellow, dry backbone, which barely resonates.

On the plus side, it's extremely drinkable and my glass was gone before I could even take a minute to ponder. If I had to make one minor complaint, I'd say that leaning towards the coffee bean flavors may have made this entry a bit more memorable.

A: Faded black coloring, with a creamy frothy mocha colored head that stood a finger high with moderate retention. Skim coating for lace.

S: The aroma was smooth of charred bitterness and roast mixing with some bakers chocolate. Smooth coffee roaste moderate in strength with some earthy dark soil and minerality notes and charred wood to finish things out.

T: The flavor as strong charred wood and roast notes. Fairly smooth, with some dry milky substance. Buttery roasted malt, campfire minerality with a dark roast finish.

M: The mouthful was light, bitter with a dark roast, Frothy on the tongue.

O: Overall drinks more like a porter rather a sweet milk stout.

On tap poured into pint during the Weyerbacher event at holy smoke. Dark brown/black color with slightly brown foam. Nice coffee and malt aroma. Has a slight vanilla and chocolate hint beneath a coffee malt flavor. Smooth and creamy.
Overall a really nice sweet stout.

Pours black with a nice cap of khaki froth, good retention. Scent is of heavy roasted grain, cocoa powder and fresh ground coffee, light splash of vanilla sugar. Taste follows suit with heavy roast, moderate chocolate and coffee and a nice cream and sugar taste, not overly sweet, a few notches below Lancaster, one of my favorite milk stouts. Light grainyness in the palate leads to a moderate lingering sweetness, full bodied. Overall one of the better milk stouts i have sampled, avoids over doing the sweetness.

First had: on tap at Capone's, Norristown, PA

Good all around stout. Poured opaque black with a mocha head that displayed decent retention and lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malts, cocoa and coffee. Nothing new, but certainly nothing bad. Similar sensation on the tongue, with a good coffee hit right up front, moderately bitter, but balanced out smoothly by the milk sugar and malt sweetness. Medium- to full-bodied, and very drinkable. Nothing you haven't experienced before, but worth a try nonetheless.

Black in appearance with a finger head and absolutely no retention. Sweetness in the nose. This offering has some body too it - roasted malt is upfront. There is a mild sweet chocolate finish to this beer. A good overall effort from a brewery that can sometimes both surprise and disappoint.

This beer pours jet black with a nice mocha head. Smell is sweet with a lot of toasted malt coming forward. Exceptionally smooth with a nice sweet aftertaste. Tons of character with cocoa and bittersweet chocolate clearly in play. An excellent representation of the style.

The beer pours a pitch black color with a thick frothy brown head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is great! It has a dark earthy scent that boasts of black and chocolate malts. It's rich and complex with a wide array of roasted, sweet character. The taste is good. Again, it has a complex flavor that's heavy in black and chocolate malts. It has a solid, earthy bitterness, however the lactose sugar and chocolate malts provide a good deal of sweetness. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a good drinking beer. It has excellent malt character; a smooth sweet stout.

Poured into pint glass from tap at BX Beer Depot in Lake Worth, FL.

Appearance: Basically black color with a thick khaki colored head. Good head retention. Dissipates into a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: Baker's chocolate and a little bit of dark chocolate. Disappointing for a milk stout. Coffee and some smokey notes as well.

Taste: The chocolate flavor lasts for a few seconds. It transitions into a bitter coffee flavor. Still smokey. Disappointing.

Mouthfeel: Light, decent carbonation. Feels like a Guinness.

Overall: There are better milk stouts out there. This one is not my beer.

Just found a local place with this on tap tonight, Really excited to try it since I had heard good things about it from a few friends of mine. The beer was black in color with an average size brown head on top. There wasn't much retention or lacing on this brew. The smell of the beer was a little bit sweet with some roasted note, nothing really stood out too much there. The taste however really took me by surprise. I was really impressed with the sweetness that the beer had with the light amount of bitter chocolate and roasted malts. The mouthfeel wasn't too bad, I felt that the thickness of it was at a good level along with the carbonation it had. Overall I was rather pleased with this beer, I was really glad to try it, I almost wish I had got another glass but there were others I wanted to try. All in all I thought it was good, and it's worth a try I think.
