BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Weyerbacher Brewing Co.
Pennsylvania, United States | website

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Last Chance IPA, 5.9% ABV, is a full-flavored hop assault delightfully lacking in balance. We’ve added a combination of Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe® and Columbus hops to produce pungent aromas of grapefruit, pine and citrus.

Weyerbacher Brewing Company donates a portion of the proceeds from the sale of every drop of Last Chance IPA to small, local animal rescue organizations. These shelters offer dogs, cats and other pets their last chance to find a new home.
Have a glass and make a difference! Cheers!

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #83 (Dec 2013):

An amped-up IPA for a great cause: Portions of the proceeds go to small, regional animal rescue operations. Fresh and sessionable with new nuances that pop up sip to sip. This beer is just more proof that East Coast brewers do brew hoppy beer. Hopheads, support the cause and get some!!

STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 5.9%
AVAILABILITY: Year-round

LOOK: Hazed pale amber, sticky lacing

SMELL: Orange zest, grapefruit rind, spearmint, oily hop, hint of breadiness, yeast, ripe pears

TASTE: Moderate-sized body, semi-aggressive bitterness, leafy, orange pith, faint mint, green tea, dried grass, apple pomace, bitter aftertaste, drying finish

Weyerbacher Last Chance IPA.

A portion of every purchase of these ones go to animal shelters accroding to the bottle. And as an animal lover, i figured why not help out. Also, bottle appearance and design will slightly start playing into my appearance factor since sometimes a good label sells a brew.

Look - Pours a very, very murky diluted sunset orange with a half finger of slightly off white head that quickly turns to cloud formations around the edges of the glass. Can't get a read on carbonation due to the swampy murkiness. Lacing manages to stick around fairly well despite the lacing head. 3.75.

Smell - Malt forward with some floral hoppiness. Slight traces of pine from the C-hops. Not much else going on here. Smells like a lighter version of a centennial IPA. 3.5.

Taste - Very floral all around with a moderate amount of malt to balance it all out. Pine resin in small to moderate forms depending on how warm the beer is. Not sure of the IBU's on this thing but I'd put it in the 70's range as it is a bit bitter. 3.5.

Feel - Medium, slick and sweet body with high levels of carbonation. The sweetness really sticks around amd coats the mouth. 3.5.

Overall - There really isn't a whole lot to say about this beer. It is very sessionable and would make a fine all day drinker. Overall it doesn't go beyond the call of duty in any aspect and there is nothing here you haven't seen before. No off putting or offensive flavors. All purchases go towards a good cause, so why the hell not?. 3.5.

In a pint glass this beer was a hazy orange color. The head was white, on the smaller side, and left a little bit of lace.

Strong citrus aroma, a little bit of pine. Some sweet malt.

A lot of grapefruit in the taste. It faded quickly, however, and gave way to some piney resins. Some caramel, some biscuit.

Moderately hopped, not too aggressive.

A- Fairly cloudy pretty orange color with a small head that recedes quickly but leaves nice lace.

S- Orange marmalade on a biscuit, with some lemon, thyme and a touch of fig fruitiness. Not entirely what I expect from an AIPA but not bad.

T- Up front is kind of a bland tartness with a little bit of the biscuit from the nose. Finishes long and smooth with strong piney bitterness.

M- Thin and crisp with medium carbonation. This is right where it should be for the style.

O- This is a very drinkable IPA with pronounced bitterness but not a whole lot else. The hops should be more pronounced in both the aroma and flavor to make this one anything more than drinkable.

Growler filled at DeCicco's Ardsley, NY location.

Pours lightly hazed medium amber. Lite tan head, leaves better then average high bits, blobs and streaks of lacing.

Fruity hop nose, melons, limes, pineapple and hoppy goodness.

Flavorful AIPA, more fruit, more fresh hop notes. Lime, honey and hopped up spice come shinin' thru.

Nicely done. Very enjoyable ale. Went great with some spicy cold noodles with chicken and peanut sauce

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid two fingers of white head that slowly fade into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A very hop forward aroma with lots of grass, pine, and citrus esters. Big upfront presence of earthy, floral, herbal, and citrus hops. Hints of wet grass along with some pine resin. Citrus hop hints of orange, lemons, grapefruit, pineapple, and tangerine. Pretty dank and bitter smelling. Some backing pale malt with hints of grains, cracker, and caramel. Very hop forward. A decent aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma suggests, a very hop forward and earthy taste with lots of grass, pine, and citrus esters. Upfront earthy and floral hops with notes of wet grass clippings and dank pine resin. Weed like taste. Citrus hop notes of orange peel, lemons, pineapple, grapefruit, and tangerine. Background pale malt presence with notes of caramel, grains, and cracker. Really hop forward as expected. Pretty decent taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Somewhat wet and oily. Bitter and fairly drying finish.

Overall: A pretty decent take on a IPA. Very grassy, bitter, and hop forward but its nice.
