Pours a slightly hazy golden body with a small white head with decent retention. Aromas are primarily reminiscent of grapefruit with a bit of honey and English muffin notes as well. The taste is unrelentingly bitter from start to finish, with a bit of graininess and whisper of apricots and on the mid-palate. The grapefruit flavors dominate the hop profile, with a small hint of pine on the finish. As far as IPAs go, this beer strikes me as needing a stronger (and more interesting) malty character and a greater depth of hoppiness (more citrusy or floral notes) in order for me to call it "good."

Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into a pinot noir wine glass. Bottled on 02/10/14 on bottle neck. Single purchased at Total Wine (Norwalk, CT) for $1.99.
A: Crystal clear orange-amber with 1-finger of nearly white, small-bubbled head with good retention and plenty of lacing all over the glass.
S: Mosaic-y hops aroma with a lot of berry and melon aromas mingling with some floral and lemon-lime citrus. Maltiness is crackery and bready. No yeast or alcohol component. Great nose overall.
T: Unfortunately the flavor doesn't measure up to the nose with the maltiness falling flat, flabby in nature, which doesn't mesh too well with the floral and minty soap-like hoppiness. No alcohol or yeast esters though. Something happened with the combination of caramel malts and hops which really didn't work. Not horrible, but the soapy aftertaste is a little astringent and a little tough.
M: Drinks a little more like an amped-up APA than an IPA with a smaller body than it should have and softer carbonation.
O: Pretty disappointing beer from Weyerbacher overall -- there is a recipe or fermentation problem with this beer, as it has a soapy quality -- probably mor eint he hops-malt combination that is not working.
