Sunday Morning Stout, 11.3% ABV, is an American Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels. The result? A beautiful ebony pour with a large, creamy, off-white head that lasts and lasts. The aromas of roasted coffee and bourbon awaken your senses while their flavors blend with hints of chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and caramel.

This is fantastic. HUGE beer. Great sipper for a nightcap. Lots of coffee in the nose. Nice subtle bourbon flavor. Delicious. In the same category as Expedition Stout and Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. (213 characters)

Look: Pitch black, with about a half inch, reddish tan head. Leaves little bit of lacing.

Smell: Coffee is what is most upfront. Just a hint of bourbon. Chocolate and malts also in the background.

Taste: Coffee again is very up front, but the bourbon is much more noticeable in the flavor. The bourbon isn't overly done. It's just about perfect.

Feel: Thick and full bodied, as any good stout should be. Just the slightest hint of booze from the bourbon.

Overall: Very excited to try this beer. It doesn't get much better than a bourbon barrel aged coffee stout. Couldn't find four packs. So I took a gamble and bought a case. Glad I did! (646 characters)

Coffee and dark chocolate on the nose with much of the same in the taste. Weyerbacher nailed it with this one! With every sip I get coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, slight caramel, and a little bit of heat. Look out KBS, this stuff is amazing. A two finger head with beautiful lacing down the side of the glass and a creamy mouthfeel. I'm loving it! (359 characters)

Best thing Weyerbacher makes hands down. Aroma is a huge hit of coffee followed by the bourbon and chocolate notes one would expect from this style. ludicrously full body, some alcohol heat but not enough to detract from this delicious stout (241 characters)

Pours like a cub of Black Coffee with light brown head and lacing

Smells of strong coffee, bit of bourbon

Taste of coffee, vanilla, chocolate, bourbon in that sequence

nice full stout, with all the flavor and none of the burn from the bourbon

One of the top beers for the style out there (291 characters)

Look: Pitch black body, minimal dark brown head
Smell: bourbon, roasty, hints of coffee
Taste: Notes of chocolate-covered espresso beans, then a nice bourbon flavor and warmth. The bourbon mellows after sipping for a bit, and then the coffee and chocolate become more prominent.
Feel: Very thick, I could feel the insides of my mouth being lathered with coats of coffee, bourbony, sticky greatness.
O: My favorite beer of all time so far. Weyerbacher never fails. (463 characters)

Pours jet black with a thin brown head and pretty good lacing.

Nose is predominantly bourbon. Vanilla, oak, caramel, black coffee, and a hint of chocolate. Amazing smell.

Holy crap. Insanity. Coffee up front, nice sweetness follows. The bourbon and oakiness comes through afterwards. Vanilla, toffee, and chocolate as well. So so good. It's like dessert.

Velvety smooth and thick and viscous. How a stout should feel. You don't get any burn for the abv.

This is one example of an amazing stout. Really reminds me of a slightly lesser version of KBS. Something seriously special. (596 characters)

My first thought on smell was that strictly of dark chocolate. The taste was something different all together. I first got hit with something I couldn't explain along with hops and dark chocolate. Then I got a slight coffee taste which gave way to the smoothness and sweetness of bourbon. This was also accompanied with hints of what I thought to be vanilla. Overall, this beer is a phenomenal brew by Weyerbacher. The 11.3% doesn't hurt either. I can't wait to age it and see how it progresses in flavor. Definitely one to rival KBS in my opinion! (548 characters)

This is a sleeper. Very similar to KBS although I dare say it edged it out, which is no small task (at least for my palate). Well done. Kudos to the brewer. This is a near perfect beer. (185 characters)

Its ABV is startling for some as it flaunts a menacing 11.3% ABV. Surprisingly though, this beer has managed to skillfully disguise its booziness behind the subtle flavor layers of coffee and prominent finishing notes of bourbon. Its aroma is unmistakably of bourbon, though when consumed, has a silky smooth mouthfeel. The alcohol, not harsh, is warming to the throat and the warmness seems to build with each sip. I would describe the beer as full bodied though I am able to drink it with an ease, quite like many medium bodied beers (if not for its ABV). Bottled only several weeks ago on 3/14/15, it will be interesting to see how this beer evolves after I age a bottle for over a year. Truly though, it is not a release to miss. Had to feature this one on the beer blog http://www.hopreligion.com/blog/step-up-your-stout-game (830 characters)

Did a blind taste with THE KBS and heavily preferred this. When I tasted the brew which had the thin aftertaste, I figured it would have to be this one. To my chagrin it was KBS. Very well done here (198 characters)

Poured from a bottle dated 3/24/15 and enjoyed on 4/5/15. The beer pours out inky black with a rocky mocha-colored head that is fairly well-sustained for such a high abv beer. Lots of rich coffee notes on the nose. No bitter, acidic coffee, just rich coffee with hints of chocolate, toasted oak, and a little bourbon. Smells awesome!

Full body with a rich flavor and a silky smooth feel. Plenty of roasted malt, toffee, chocolate, and caramel flavors up front, then loads and loads of rich intense coffee notes and Asbach Uralt brandy-filled dark chocolates. The flavors are smooth, creamy, and very satisfying. No bitterness at all. Very, very reminiscent of KBS, except at mid-palate where the bourbon notes creep in. Where they simply enrich the flavor of that other beer, here the bourbon is noticeably more assertive and heats things up more, enhancing the dessert-like qualities of the beer. The beer finishes with coffee, dark chocolate, and bourbon.

Long story short, this beer drinks like KBS - it disappears far too quickly! It also tastes like KBS, except it has more of an assertive bourbon-like presence. As rich "coffee-forward" beers go for me, this stuff is right up there with KBS and Big Bad Baptist (and just below BCBCS). Weyerbacher has a real winner on their hands here. I hope they keep making this stuff. It is wonderful. Congratulations Weyerbacher! (1,377 characters)

Drank on a Wednesday morning... close enough. Bottle dated 3/27/15. Pours jet black with a good-sized brown head which lasted a while and left some lacing. Amazing smell of coffee, vanilla, bourbon, and roasted malts; getting almost a toasted marshmallow vibe. The taste is much more subdued, but follows the nose almost exactly. A coffee drinker's delight. Slight sweetness. Above-average carbonation for the style. Fantastic stout overall. If I were to really nitpick, it'd be about the taste being too subdued (which is probably why some people find it boozy). Some aging may reduce the coffee dominance and bring other flavors to the forefront. Great for any day of the week!

I had a Founders KBS right after this and would say they're comparable. The major differences being that this has way more coffee, way less bourbon, much more subdued, touch less drying, little sweeter, bit more carbonation, and less balance. Overall, I preferred Sunday Morning. (964 characters)

Poured into snifter. Black, opaque with light brown thick head and heavy lacing. Very fragrant stout with strong coffee, chocolate and malt. When sipped, the bourbon is instantly apparent, followed by the coffee and chocolate with a hint of vanilla sweetness. Overall, a very complex and pleasant taste but with a lot of alcohol burn. The carbonation doesn't seem as strong as KBS. Overall, a very fine stout. I think it has more character than 2015 KBS. (461 characters)

The beer pours out a slick black color.

The aroma hits of huge coffee, similar to aged KBS. Loads of bourbon, cacao bitterness, coffee bitterness, a touch of alcohol. Big sweetness.

The flavor follows with rich chocolate and caramel sweetness throughout, lots of roasted coffee and espresso. A creaminess, vanilla. Bourbon throughout, with a touch of lingering alcohol on the back, but not as offensive as I've heard from others.

In a blind with KBS, this won hands down. A rich imperial stout with huge forward notes of bourbon and coffee. One of the best in the style. (573 characters)

Coffee, coffee, coffee...but in a good way. Super easy to drink, but enough booziness to live up to the ABV on the side of the bottle. This is better than KBS, but just shy of BCBCS. I wish the store I found it at - Discount Liquor in Milwaukee, WI - didn't have a 4pk per customer limit. (288 characters)

My oh my this was a surprise. Coffee front with a slow chocolate and bourbon finish. If this had the mouthfeel of KBS or the BC variants this beer would be otherworldly. (169 characters)

Look: Pitch black color, very small brown head around the edge of glass

Smell: notes of maple, coffee, caramel, toffee

Taste: chocolate, caramel, coffee, maple, bourbon, booze

Feel: Syrupy mouthfeel, really chewy, alcohol burn while sipping

Overall: Really impressed with this stout. Every bit as good as competitors with a much better rep. Definitely recommend warming this one up a little bit. (400 characters)

This was quite the surprise this year. Weyerbacher has always had a solid barrel aging program but this beer, took it up a level. No surprise it won Barrel Aged Beer of the Year for the Philly Beer Scene Awards. It is an assertive beer both in terms of its barrel character and coffee note. Tons of vanilla and caramel round out the flavor profile nicely. Gets you 95% to BCBCS and KBS at half the price. (404 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a point.

A. Pours a jet black beer with 2 fingers of frothy cappuccino colored head. About 3 minutes of head retention leaving a prominent lacing around the glass.

S. Chocolate, vanilla, Coffee, Bourbon roasted malts. For me that equals delicious.

T. Same as nose. Some good vanilla chocolate and coffee. Definitely get the roasted malts. Quite a bit of Bourbon which is the highlight but it doesn't take over these other wonderful flavors. The aftertaste is a bit green leafy which usually for me is more characteristic of IPA's.

M. Good mouthfeel. 6 out of 10 on thickness. Some welcome carbonation but not too much. Creamy. Pretty clean finish.

O. A great beer. Definitely up there with KBS, BCBCS and CW BBR. (778 characters)

Overall I'm blown away by this beer. Weyerbacher hit it out of the ballpark ! Tastes phenomenal, amazing bourbon kick with that slight tweak of coffee. A little heavy on the palate and really no coffee in the nose. Other than that one of the best bourbon stouts I've had... Just about ever. If you see it try it. (312 characters)

L: dark black with only a slight head that dissipates quickly

S: coffee primarily, then some bourbon and a hint of bananas

T: more roasted coffee than bourbon. Not overpowering with the alcohol despite the 11% ABV. Very pleasant.

F: very smooth and rich. Not too much carbonation.

O: Very enjoyable. Gives KBS a run for its money. Even if it falls short of that for some, the price point is great. (404 characters)
