look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy and dark brown with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head which quickly fades away. Leaves a decent amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: A yeasty, bready, and very fruity malt driven aroma with big hints of banana and dark fruit. Toasted and pale malt with hints of wheat, grains, biscuit, chocolate, straw, cracker, smoke, and lots of yeast. Sweet hints of brown sugar and molasses. Huge scent of bananas along with some pear and apple fruit. Some bubblegum hints as well. Big presence of dark fruit with hints of raisin, fig, prune, plum, and dates. Hops are light. A very good German style aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a very yeasty, toasty, and fruity malt driven taste with big notes of banana and other fruits. Upfront taste of toasted and pale European malts with notes of wheat, biscuit, grains, chocolate, straw, cracker, yeast, and a little smoke. Sweet taste of brown sugar and some molasses. Big taste of bananas as well as some apple and pear fruit. Big dark fruit taste with notes of prune, raisin, plum, fig, and dates. Some bubble gum taste and subtle earthy hops in the background. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, slick, and fairly syrupy and chewy. Alcohol heat is fairly tame considering its 11.1.

Overall: A very good take on a Weizenbock. Great fruity banana and dark fruit taste. Sweet but far from cloying.

A: 1/2 finger of tan head on top of a beautiful deep ruby beer. The beer is almost opaque, but the light coming through is brilliantly red.

S: Big aroma on this beer, can smell dark fruits and alcohol as soon as the bottle is opened. Closer examination brings out the aroma of sweet malts and leather.

T: Big flavor on this beer as well. No surprise at the 11.1% ABV, because the alcohol is incredibly prominent, but in a good way. Sweet malts, candied plums, raisins, and alcoholic phenols all play together to give a rounded, fruity beer.

M: Thick, almost syrupy, and low carbonation make it a very smooth, if heavy, brew.

O: A big beer, very heavy on the fruit flavors. A mix between a Belgian and a bock, this brew has a lot of barleywine and wine qualities to it. A sipper, and one I'm liking a lot.

A:
Pours a cloudy brown-amber color with a barely-there soda-like head that never amounts to more than a ring around the edge of the glass. No retention; no lacing.
It is high ABV, but nonetheless, meh.

S:
Smells a lot like a strong dark Belgian to me. Vanilla with banana notes from the yeast (definitely the dominant smell), dark fruits, licorice, oak, and brown sugar. Very nice smell.

T:
Very sweet. Cherries, cola, candi sugar, caramel malts, licorice, and the faintest vegetable taste at the long, sticky finish (not entirely bad, a little like celery or cucumber-- fresh, but not what I would expect).

M:
Thin and sticky with aggressive carbonation and a long, cloying finish/aftertaste.

O:
Okay, I guess.
First of all, this beer is entirely too sweet for my tastes. It isn't undrinkable, but it definitely had me a little worn out by the end of it. It is nothing to look at, but has a very nice nose with a lot of good yeasty phenols and a subtle underlying wine aroma. The taste is almost like drinking pop and is very clean and sweet (lots of cherry flavors). The palate is quite sticky and thin and nothing to write home about.
Overall, this is a beer that I think has some very nice qualities (the nose particularly) but could use to be tightened up (it could use to be a little heartier and a little fuller, I think). Since it is a one-off it makes total sense that it is just shy of being the complete package and--based on the other Weyerbacher beers I have had--I have no doubt that it could be tightened into a lovely beer. But I digress.
Probably wouldn't have it again; on the other hand, if I had it to try again I wouldn't NOT try it...

I poured this beer, it has a dark brown color body with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet and also some banana is present. The taste has a banana and dark fruit up front, then a strong malt flavor on the back of tongue. The mouthfeel is smooth for being a 11% brew. Overall it is very tasty and decently a sipper

Appearance: Cloudy brown, good head for a high ABV.

Smell: Nice banana sweetness! My favorite weizenbock aroma.

Taste: Sweet fruitiness dominates. Banana, grape, apple. Very boozy. Not too pleased after the aroma.

Overall: I love weizenbocks so picked up this one from Weyerbacher. Started out strong with the look and smell, but the taste was a disappointment. Just too much alcohol, and the grape/apple flavors remind me of high gravity malt liquors rather than weizenbock. Bummer.
