Pours a smaller slightly darker colored fizzy bubbly 1/2 finger head that disappears at a med to quicker rate, typical for this high abv beer, high water mark lacing that also doesn't stay long, very dark beer with just hints of caramel molasses light sneaking through at the thin parts.

Nose is pretty nice, some dark wheat like aromas, biscuit, caramel, nutty, toffee, some candy like notes but doesn't seem too sweet, into candied raisins, slight hint of fig, as well as mild booze, esters, and just at touch of phenolic booze. The longer I nose the more the booze comes out and tickles my nose, as well as a creamy wheat.

Taste starts with some sweetness but not too sweet, a big creamy wheat flavor, darker wheat too with some biscuit and lots of toffee, nutty characters, candy with some caramel and caramelized sugars, a little candi sugar too, little overcooked caramelized almost burnt toffee. then booze, big booze kick with warmth, tingle, and a definite booze taste that's almost fusel but not quite, with lots of phenols too, and a mild ester component. That leads to the fruits again which are much more background than anything, more candied raisins and hint of fig paste, bit of cooked vegetable. It's fairly creamy and wheat based. Finish is a bit sticky and syrupy, bit of bitterness but not much, little toffee and nutty flavors, more mild dark candied fruits, and more phenolic booze lingering.

Mouth is med bod, creamy, lower but decent carb for the style, and lots of warming tingly booze.

Overall not bad, a big sipping winter beer that will warm you while not going overboard with malts, a nice wheat base, creaminess, good sweet characters and fruits, but overall a bit too much on the booze and phenolic characters.

Tasted 27 May 2014.

Pours a murky deep brown with rusty edges. Half a finger of yellowish head, gone pretty fast, okay lacing. Not all that appealing.

Smell is delightful. Rich fruity esters, combining the banana bread of a hefeweizen with the darker fruits of a Belgian quad or strong dark ale. Deep, full, potent, varied, and just delicious.

Taste has much the same character that the smell does, but it's brought down by the bite of the alcohol. Yes, I know this is a high-ABV beer, but it'd be better if it had all the same flavors without the pinch in the finish. Otherwise, it's really nice. Fruity, again with bananas and some stone fruit (combo of plums and peaches), and some tobacco. Yummy.

Feel is fine. Pretty heavy, carbonation a little on the low side. But good enough to handle the flavor explosion.

Very tasty, with only small off elements in the taste from the alcohol. Deliciously fruity and strong, like a jacked-up darkened hefeweizen. Good stuff.

Appearance: Cloudy brown, good head for a high ABV.

Smell: Nice banana sweetness! My favorite weizenbock aroma.

Taste: Sweet fruitiness dominates. Banana, grape, apple. Very boozy. Not too pleased after the aroma.

Overall: I love weizenbocks so picked up this one from Weyerbacher. Started out strong with the look and smell, but the taste was a disappointment. Just too much alcohol, and the grape/apple flavors remind me of high gravity malt liquors rather than weizenbock. Bummer.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/3/2013. Pours very hazy deep ruby red color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big banana, raisin, plum, fig, bubblegum, clove, molasses, caramel, cocoa, toast, brown bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast ester and dark malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big banana, raisin, plum, fig, bubblegum, clove, molasses, caramel, cocoa, toast, brown bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light wheat tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of banana, raisin, plum, fig, bubblegum, clove, molasses, cocoa, toast, brown bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and dark malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full bodied; with a very creamy, moderately slick, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice weizenbock style. Good balance, complexity, and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast and dark malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
