It's been awhile since I have had a new Weyerbacher beer.Poured into a weizen glass a deep murky chesnut brown with a half finger off white head that was gone pretty quickly,a menacing looking weizenbock if I have ever seen one.The banana notes really jump out at ya in the nose along with some gummy fruitiness and nut, there is a big alcohol presence wich is par for the course when it comes to Weyerbacher in my opinion. It's big and chewey in the mouth unlike any of the style I have had. It's an alcohol bomb with big medicinal sweetness and alcohol, the banana and clove spice is there but it's hindered a little by the sheer size and burn of this beer. The biggest weizenbock I have had,Iam not sure what some of my friends from the south of Germany would think of this. There are good points to this beer but it's to big a monster for the style in my opinion.

In a pilsner glass this beer was a red/brown, mahogany color. There was a small tan head.

Fresh-baked bread aroma. Caramel malt. Dark fruit.

Great taste. Molasses, sherries, plums, and raisins.

Very malt-forward. Couldn't notice the alcohol, but could definitely feel it.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy and dark brown with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head which quickly fades away. Leaves a decent amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: A yeasty, bready, and very fruity malt driven aroma with big hints of banana and dark fruit. Toasted and pale malt with hints of wheat, grains, biscuit, chocolate, straw, cracker, smoke, and lots of yeast. Sweet hints of brown sugar and molasses. Huge scent of bananas along with some pear and apple fruit. Some bubblegum hints as well. Big presence of dark fruit with hints of raisin, fig, prune, plum, and dates. Hops are light. A very good German style aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a very yeasty, toasty, and fruity malt driven taste with big notes of banana and other fruits. Upfront taste of toasted and pale European malts with notes of wheat, biscuit, grains, chocolate, straw, cracker, yeast, and a little smoke. Sweet taste of brown sugar and some molasses. Big taste of bananas as well as some apple and pear fruit. Big dark fruit taste with notes of prune, raisin, plum, fig, and dates. Some bubble gum taste and subtle earthy hops in the background. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, slick, and fairly syrupy and chewy. Alcohol heat is fairly tame considering its 11.1.

Overall: A very good take on a Weizenbock. Great fruity banana and dark fruit taste. Sweet but far from cloying.

Just accidentally erased my whole write up so here's a shortened version:

Deep chestnut color with no opacity and no head even with an aggressive pour. Complex nose of dark fruits, toasted whole wheat breads and faint banana. The taste isn't as complex as the nose but flavors are good, lots of dark dried fruits, plums, raisins, hearty grainy breads and a touch of yeast snap to balance the sweetness. Alcohol is deceptive, medium bodied and smooth, almost no detection of the 11% abv. Flavors are a little muddled and blurry but work together. Weyerbacher isn't really known for making really clean beers anyway with the exception of simcoe and the new last chance ipa. Pretty good overall a little different in regards to style.

-Weizenbock. 11.1%

A: Cola pour with a monstrous 3+ finger peanut shelled colored head that was smooth and frothy all day long. Leisure rise of carbonation bubbles creep up along the inner walls of the vessel while a thin, spongy film coating exists for lace.

S: Bananas, cola, toasted caramel and some nuttiness exists on the nose along with some chocolate and a bit of mustiness.

T: Flavor of chocolate, cola-banana flair, dry pinch of coffee, nuttiness, and an earthy, musky bitterness. Yeastiness of banana, doughy bread, with some alcohol spiciness of black licorice, mild anise twang but is otherwise very well hidden in character for 11.1%. Spices of cardamon, and sweet chocolate flashes come about.

M: Warm anise alcohol warmth, medium full body, creamy texture, slightly oily feel with a soft presence of carbonation.

O: Overall a nice layering of complexity from the yeast and alcohol combine to give this a warming glow of spiciness. very good.
