I used to like this place a lot better when it was located in the 5th Avennue station in Naperville, although that was several years ago. The place in Lombard is more of a restaurant than a brewery. Heck, it doesn't even have the ambiance of a Rock Bottom. Now that is going some. It is very bright and their isn't much focus on the bar. I exclusively, eat and drink at the bar, so the tvs were well placed and the bartender was quite knowledgable, but it pretty much ended there. I so much prefer a down-home place such as Old Hat in Lawton, MI (is it still there?). I wouldn't go out of my way, but if your in the area it may be ok to stop at, although there are plenty better eating establishments in the area.

Visited 10/5/2010.

The place was quiet and pretty close to empty as it was a Tuesday night. Lots of tables. Lots of parking outside.

Beer was just plain bad, food was what ever. Got a large plate of nachos that were decent and a burger that was pretty good. There was pretty much the standard brewpub food, but the beer... the beer was bordering on terrible for the most part.

The service was decent. The girl was very nice but seemed to forget about us and had to be flagged down to get service.

I was here last month for a beer tasting for a local animal shelter. I read reviwes about the beer and food quality and thought I would go to support the animal shelter and their rescue efforts. The flyer from th eshelter listed snacks and appetizers would be served.

The beer sampler was four beers. I enjoy lagers and tried the Pure Pilsner and enjoyed it . The food was a flash back to the old happy hpur type setting. There were small pices of steak, mini hotdogs,chips.etc. I thought the pilsner was okay and fit the layout of the place. The tasting oppucied about half of the space and the bar and other restaurant space will filled with people.

The large screen televisions with popcorn served at the bar would be fine to watch a sporting event, drink some beer.and munch on a few snacks.

From the outside, Taylor looks like a former chain restaurant. It sits near office buildings along a busy IL thoroughfare. Inside, it has a very stripped down feel. There is a large amount of exposed concrete cinderblock that has simply been painted with earth tones. Seating is made up of wood booths and chairs. The U shaped bar is sunken and located in the middle of the pub.

Food here is pretty standard pub fare. Burgers, sandwiches and Mexican food dot the menu. The stuffed potato skins I ordered were decent, if unexceptional. Service was good. I was there early on a Friday, so there wasn't much of a crowd.

Beer selection is broad. I counted 13 Taylor and 26 guest beers. Many of the guest beers were BMC fare, which was disheartening. The Taylor brews were a mixed bag. The Munich Dark was quite nice, while the Maibock was almost undrinkable.

Overall, I was rather disappointed with Taylor. There are much better choices in the Chicago area than this.

This is one of those joints that is more focused on the restaurant aspect of the business than the beer. The restaurant is nice and clean, and exudes a semi-upscale eatery vibe. The bar is a big U shape and has a good selection of guest beers in addition to their own brews.

The staff was friendly, and the bartender was beer-savvy and quite competent. I was there for my bachelor party, and everyone had a great time. There are some big flat screens for catching the game, and the overall vibe is that of a commercial area eatery/bar.

I was less than impressed with their brews, however, and after two pints I switched to trying the guest beers that I've not been able to find in my area.

Not a bad place to have a pint if you are shopping in the mega-mall area of Lombard, but it's not worth seeking out, really.

Place looks like a really great Denny's or Ruby Tuesday. Lots of booths and tables, giving it a very restaurant-esque feel to it. At least there is a pretty big bar area, but still...

Food is decent, like a Rock Bottom, good, but not great.

Service is okay, as in I have nothing to complain about from an average point of view. Food came right on time and its not hard to get a beer served, but there isn't a huge knowledge of the beer being served. They hire bar tending chicks and college guys who give fine service, but don't really want to spend five minutes talking to you about the beer, because they aren't too interested. Like I said, not a horrible thing, but it takes away something.

The beer is above mediocre. I much prefer Rock Bottom's selection. This brewpub plays it safe and doesn't have anything too daring or unique. They have a decent porter, and they mix it with their decent raspberry wheat to make a blah 'mayor' (Guiness and Framboise) type brew, though couldn't they just make a real brew with these tastes without mixing? Ah, I must be getting old.

Overall, I expected more when I first went it, and there are some better brewpubs very close by. I mean, you got a Rock Bottom, the Lunar Brewing Co., and Emmett's Ale House all within a quick drive so I would much recommend those. But hey, Taylor Brew Co. is doing their thing and still serving better brew than the majority of bars in the world so keep on trucking.

*Note- Some of their brews come from their sister brewpubs in southern Illinois and Wisconsin, so they are not all made there.

Stopped by the other night for a few drinks. I was in town for a few nights and this place was right across the street from my hotel.

I have to say, I was seriously disappointed. The atmosphere is bright, boring, and generic. The only redeeming quality is the glass wall that shows of some of the brewery equipment.

I sat at the bar and was surrounded by people smoking and drinking green beer. This doesn't really seem like a desination for good beer. Other than the stuff they brew themselves (which is pretty watered down and flavorless) their entire selection consists of macros.

The service was okay, while here I was served by two separate bartenders. One was okay and the other was rude, short and curt.

Overall, very disappointing. For a local brewery founded by a family, I expected a lot more. I would skip this place and head a few miles south to Emmet's Ale House in Downer's Ridge.

I have had my eye on this place for quite awhile, finally got a chance to go in for a couple beers yesterday. Bad decision on my part...

This review is only on the beer, I did not stay for food.

The service was great. Fast and polite. The beer was not so great. Tried the IPA, The Rusty Dog Amber, and the new Blueberry Wheat. All had off-flavors or maybe it was just dirty beer lines. In any event, they were bland and underwhelming. Very low carbonation. They did not have any hop aroma or taste. Hopheads have no business in this bar, trust me.

I was very sad the way things turned out because I was hoping for some good beer. At least 1 out of 3. But they did not deliver.

They did have a lot of beer choices (both their own and guest beers) but nothing worth drinking. Bad form.

This is, sadly, the closest brewpub to my house. First off, don't be fooled - the "other locations" are contract brews. They are your best bet - beers from Capital in Madison and Two Brothers down the road in Warrenville. The house beers are pretty weak.

They also have guest drafts that often have a few interesting brews.

Atmosphere - about like the TGI Fridays next door. At least you can get a decent beer here if you avoid the house beers.

Food - good burgers and other pub food is ok...just ok. The only time we sat at a table here, the service was very bad. The waitress never really spoke to us and disappeared for long stretches. Sit at the bar, order a beer brewer in Madison, have a burger....play some trivia. That is the best way to maimize the experience here.

Stopped in the midle of the afternoon during a recent business trip to check this place out. Big place with rows of tables/booths and a big square bar sunken in the middle of the room. Had a chain restaurant type feel to it, but was comfortable. Over 10 "house" beers (some brewed at their other locations) but you need two hands to count the golden ales and light lagers. Only tried one beer - the IPA which would have been average had it not been for the weird chlorinated water flavors that overcame any hop flavor. Saw someone order a burger and it was huge - like 3/4 of a pound cooked on the grill in the middle of the bar area. Brewer was there attending to some brewing details, but didn't look like your average brewer - too clean cut. Don't think I will be back.
