What a pleasant surprise this beer was. The beer poured with no head at all. A murky brownish red color. Not sure how a ginger porter should look, but this is OK for me. Smells strongly of ginger, and a little sweet. Tastes strongly of ginger, too! So smooth. Cleanses the palate and leaves a fantastic aftertastes.

On tap at the AOBF 5/24/03. Listed as "Perkuno's Hammer Imperial Porter" aged with ginger. What a cool name.

Murky brown in appearance, with scant tannish-colored head. VIrtually no lacing whatsoever. Aromas are extremely sweet and very caramel-ish. Roasted malt notes also present. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't really notice the ginger. Taste was sweet...chocolate, caramel, toffee. It was in the flavor that I was able to pick out the ginger flavor. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel and very, very drinkable.

Notes: I had an aversion to porters ever since my first sample (Polygamy Porter) and this really helped bring me out of the "porter funk" I had been in...

Tried a version of this beer last night at the AOBF, one conditioned with Chinese Ginger I believe. Heavyweight was offering two different versions of the porter at the event. Overall, an excellent imperial porter, nice and dark and smooth. there were background notes of the ginger, but very subtle. I'd like to try this one again in a larger quantity...

Sampled on cask at the Blind Tiger in NYC.

This porter was described as Heavyweight's Perkuno Hammer Imperial Porter with added Chinese ginger and cask-conditioned. The result was quite tasty.

This porter poured a dark, cloudy, brown color with light brown foam that did not yield much lace. The smell was dark roasted malt (slightly burnt) and ginger. The taste was sweet and malty (caramel, coffee, and chocolate malts) and a subtle yet lingering ginger flavor. The mouthfeel was very smooth and creamy and clean, but with a lingering taste of ginger and a bit of hops. This was a very drinkable porter, very similar to the Perkuno's hammer, but the ginger was a very nice addition.
