A - Half craft beer shop, half farmers market. C'mon, how can it get better? Picked up my sought after Bitches Brew and bananas at the same register. Fuck yeah. Also, it was clean and hospitable.

Q - Bananas were top notch, and so was all the beer. No rotten fruit, no old, dusty bottles or anything that had gone bad visibly.

S - Familiar face behind the counter (didn't catch your name, brother...) was beautifully willing to point out a few beers I might be interested in based on my tastes (he had the sense to ask), and also beers that were on sale (not old, just distributors trying to get rid of them for cheap [ST PumpKing, Ovila saison, The Bruery's Blackberry Wheat beer])

S - Found my long sought after Bitches Brew, also WWS, Saison Dupont, Stone 15th....list goes on, my bankroll does not.

F - Bananas were good. Rest of the produce looked super fresh and natural - not 'roided up like your supermarket's jumbo oranges.

V - I spent a lot for my budget, but nothing I bought was unreasonably priced.

The best place to buy beer in CNY. They have all the greats plus some rarities. Growler fills from local breweries and some national. You can also pick up some produce if you need to do some grocery shopping. The staff is friendly, and knowledgeable but not in your face. They definitely know what they're doing when it comes to beer. I've been coming here for years and their selection keeps growing. Some tips...join the growler club and get the NYS sharp cheddar they have the counter..its fantastic

Going to Kraig's has been something I've always looked forward to, and now that I live away from home I look forward to it even more when I am back in the area.

A - The atmosphere at Kraig's is great. I often take 30-45 minutes to make up my mind because I like to stand around and read all the labels, as well as look up BeerAdvocate reviews on my phone. It is usually quite cool in the summertime and toasty in the winter. The displays are set up great and there is usually a nice holiday or seasonally themed display at the forefront.

Q - The quality of the beer is usually quite good, although some seasonals and less popular/well-known beers can sit around. However I have to say that the quality and freshness is something that has improved dramatically in the last few years. Walking into Kraig's 3-4 years ago, you would see dusty bottles and disorganized selection. Now, the stock is rotated regularly and there are always new things to try.

S - The main "importer" for the store is named Corey and he is very friendly and knowledgeable. Corey has even gone so far as to order beers he thought I would like (back when I was a much more regular visitor). They also tend to let me be as they know I can't make up my mind on anything, but there is always a nice casual conversation about my current whereabouts and what new items they have in stock. They also have great interaction with their fans on Facebook and usually update the page with new beers in stock and the current tap selection.

S - Kraig's has an excellent selection for all palettes. I go for the hoppy beers and there are always plenty that I have never tried in stock. There are also 8 or so taps with great offerings so you can fill your growler. Many times you can get a growler full of the local Saranac beer for 6-8 dollars, which is a real bargain. They also get some more interesting things on tap that you may have never had out of the bottle - such as Southern Tier Pumking and Ommegang. I usually get a few six packs of something nice to session and a few bombers of something special. I also would say the selection has nearly tripled in the past few years, and every time I go home it just gets better and better.

F - While I have bought cheeses and barbeque supplies at Kraig's, they also offer a wide variety of produce and gardening supplies. It is most pleasant to pick up your year's gardening supplies and some tasty beers for working in the sun. There are always great local cheeses to choose from, and what do they go better with than some hoppy beer!

Overall, this is a great little beer store in an area that you probably would not expect it. Since we have no access to Wegman's east of Syracuse, this is practically the only place to find some of the rarer micro-brewed beers. I miss this place now that I live up north, but I always make sure to stop in when I'm home and pick up something special for the holidays or just a quiet weekend at home.

This place has a nice selection of craft beer. It's in its own little place off of route 5 attached to a little market/grocery sort of place. Spacing is done well and there's beer all the way through. As far as quality, it's all good stuff. I don't mark down for selling old inventory only because it's clearly stated, marked down, and sold as such. There's a variance in pricing, though to go really cheap there's actually a pretty decent number of beers on a shelf and in an adjacent cooler that apply for the $9.99 mix a six.
What's really special about this place is that it has growler fills. Not only that, it sells the growlers too as part of the cost of the fill. Not only that, you can choose between a 1/2 gallon or a full gallon.m Finally, to top it all off, there's not just one, not even two, but EIGHT taps.
Service is good when you get to the register. I only saw 2 people working, so I didn't get much attention on the floor, but they're friendly at checkout and can answer questions about the beer, stock, etc.
I was really impressed with this place. it was better than my earlier reads of the reviews would have led me to believe.

Currently Kraig's is less than five miles from my house. This is currently my go to place and is where I get most of the beers I review on here.

Q: Excellent quality. I never have to worry about my beer quality when I go here. They do sell some beer that is a little old (ie winter beer in the spring) but that is obvious and is reflected in the price.

Ser: Employees tend to be rather young. They are will to help and discuss fine brews, but they are also never breathing down your neck. I never feel rushed. Sometimes have to wait to cash out, but they get busy with the fresh produce too.

Sel: Decent selection. They move displays around so you can kind of notice other beers you might normally not have. They have a range of micro beers but they also sell every type of 30 pack. Good amount of bombers too. Right up to date with seasonals. They are also open to suggestions.

V: This fluctuates, you can find awesome deals on some beers but other times you can't believe the prices. Usually have good deals on big bottles.

Probably the best beer store in the area (not that that's saying much of course...). This was where I went in my last year of college if I wanted to get some good beer. Lots of Victory, Avery, Unibroue, Weyerbacher, Ayinger, Chimay, Orval, Ommegang, Samuel Smith, Brooklyn, Oskar Blues, Smuttynose. You'll definitely find something you want here, although no "rare" beers or anything. The only bad thing about this place is that it doesn't get much turnover, so a lot of the beers are old. Stick to beers that improve with age and you'll be fine. A must if you live within 45 minutes of this place (and have nowhere else to go!).

This place was a very pleasant surprise compared to what you usually get in these parts. I'm pretty sure some of the older reviews of this place are very outdated because they have many more micros than just the locals as well as a bunch of Belgians. Avery, Clipper City, Oskar Blues, Chimay, Rodenbach, Lindeman's, incl. Cuvee Renee Gueuze, many others I'm forgetting, but just a really nice selection, of course DFH, SN, etc. as well. Huge Unibroue selection too, picked up their 2004 and 2005 anniversary ales. There might not be anything that makes the top 50 list, sure, but you won't leave this place complaining they didn't have anything from this or that niche of beer. Very impressed.

Growing up a few miles down Route 5, Kraig's Kegs was always just a side operation to Arnie's produce market, although recent years have seen its metamorphosis into a specialty beer store. This isn't a beer mecca. The staff doesn't run it that way, and Sherrill isn't a substantial craft beer market. But in a land of grocery store macros it is a diamond in the rough.

Though the store is small, the selection is considerably large. A very good showing of beers from throughout NY State is coupled with a quality selection of micros from around the country (I was surprised to find some California brews that I hadn't seen since I left there) and a smattering of respectable imports. Overall, they strike a decent balance of household names, local selection, and a variety of styles, which makes it an all around good place to stock up at. The staff are plenty courteous and I find the prices to be relatively cheap compared to what I normally pay. One of my favorite stops when I'm in the area visiting family.

One of only two places I can go in the Utica area for a great selection of craft/micro beer from across the US and imports.

There's a lot of tremendous local micros for cheap! The workers are knowledgable, but not too eager to talk about beer. It is run in conjunction with a farmer's type marketplace, so that could explain the disinterest.

I've found that they take recommendations for future orders, but rarely follow through. Nevertheless, Kraig's is very careful to replenish and update their inventory. Naturally, they're THE source for Kegs. (No beer balls though!)
