The malt is present in the nose of this dark brown stout. The roasted malt wafts through the air as one approaches the sip. The malt continues through, releasing it's sweetness throughout the experience. I just wish it lasted a little longer, but this is a solid beer. I would enjoy drinking this again.

This is, by far, one of the best stouts I've ever had. Chocolate, coffee, biscuit goodness. Whenever this is on tap, I slam at least 2-3 of them. It's very coffee forward, as it is brewed with local coffee from Southdown coffee shop in Huntington I believe. Has a robust and dark look, and the mouthfeel matches. This is a thick and robust stout.

I wish they had this on tap more. It's disappointing to walk in and see Southdown Stout with Coconut or some other inferior variation. Keep it simple because this is one of the best damn stouts out there!

Reviewed from the 3/20/19 batch.

A charred black color on the pour with a frothy off-white head. Roasted floral notes on the nose with coffee and malts. These notes carry right over into the initial sips nicely. Lots of roasted chocolate malt upfront with a smooth flow and finish. Not terribly coffee forward but with more of a robust mix of flavors-charred smoke, burnt toast, and dry coffee grinds. The mouthfeel is on the lighter side of moderate at best. I like the dry roasted tone but it does really walks the line of watery at times in terms of body.

Overall, decent but far from my favorite coffee stout.

On tap at Himmeriget.

Pours an inky black with little foam.

Smell is roasty with plenty of coffee, some chocolate and a bit of golden syrup.

Taste is very coffee driven, almost a bit tart and fruity. On the back end comes some dark chocolate and coffee grounds.

Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a really terrific breakfast stout, very coffee forward.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head and not much lacing.

This smells like very roasty and slightly ashy coffee, with smoke, chocolate, and roasted malt.

I expected a lot more out of this. The coffee doesn't seem to melt into the base beer all that well- it stands out as slightly acrid and too bitter. The base isn't strong enough to stand up to the intense coffee flavor here.

This is medium bodied, slightly thin, with a lower level of drinkability due to the above factors.
