A lighter color weizen, closer to a whitbier. Minimal head like a whitbier, too. Normal hefe scent - wheaty, citrus, yeast. There's not too much to say about this one. A textbook weizen, across the board. Its refreshing, its good, but there's nothing special about it to differentiate it from 1,000 other local microbrew hefeweizens.

Served in a standard nonic glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: As served the beer is a hazy bright lemon or straw color with a ¾" white creamy head that recedes moderately slowly to form a ring of foam around the glass and leave some patches of white foam on the surface. Sipping leaves a light sheet of foam and some lacing on sipping but this one really needs a weizen glass to be able to judge the sheets and lacing against a well made Germen hefeweizen.

Smell: The aroma is dominated by the banana and bubblegum with clove showing up as well. Hard to find any trace of wheat or hops here.

Taste: The flavor is rich, sweet, and fruity with banana dominating. The bubblegum is definitely in here and then the clove shows up as well. The overall impact includes the sweetness of the wheat, the flavors from the yeast, and no traces of hops.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with lots of soft smoothness and moderate carbonation. The finish is soft and long, keeping the banana, bubblegum, clove and a trace of sweetness around to the very end.

Drinkability: This is now my favorite American brewed hefeweizen. I could easily spend a summer evening dinking this beer. I will definitely be having more of this beer and without having done a side by side comparison yet it seems to me that it competes well the best of the hefeweizen made in Germany. I'd say Stoudt's has nailed this style better than some of the German made examples I've had.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

A: I Poured 1/2 the bottle and got a bright lemony yellow with very little head... I poured the remaining 1/2 after a little swirl.... bring on the cloudiness... Just what I was looking for.... again no head and very little lacing.

S: I'm getting orange, clove and a hint of cinnamon.... very nice.

T: Very Hefe.... lots of orange, citrus, wheat malt and yeast.... very refreshing... I have to say it was more yeasty then most Hefes I've had... Still very nice.

M: The yeastiness makes this one a little closer to mid bodied... the carbonation was a little high, but overall close to the style.

D: Very drinkable... a good session summer beer.

This was my first beer from Stoudt's, I will keep them on the radar.

Stoudt's Weizen....continuing my Weizen kick..

Appearance-Light color with a cloudy head, really active carbonation.

Smell-yeasty, alcohol is there as well, little bit of biscuit maltiness as well, some citrus.

Taste/Mouthfeel-fairly thick for a Weizen, more citrus in the taste, alcohol is well hidden. Enjoyable flavor, drinks well.

Drinkability-Though the hot heat of summer is passing by, still a refreshing brew to drink as a Hefe should be.

Overall-I've had the pleasure of drinking many good Hefeweizens lately and this one from my home state does not dissapoint either. Great beer.

Pours a fogged yellow with a white head. Nose is really nice. Dough, spices, and yeasty spice. Spot on for the style IMO. Flavor is thick with the typical hefe funk. Spices and doughy funk. Nothing crazy, but it's working for me. Feel is slick and smooth on the liquid. I have to say this is an easy drinking hefe.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into an US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light yellow color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves very little lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of wheat, yeast, bananas, light malts, some spice and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts with bready flavors of wheat and yeast followed by sweet flavors of bananas, spices and a hearty malt character. There's a mild but complimentary hops presence that provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a nice lighter beer to drink several of over a long period of time.

An outdated brew, so that is certainly being taken into consideration.

A: Straw coloured with a golden hue. Head is quite fizzy and leaves just a trim of lacing.

S: Clove aromas, quite a full yeasty scent. A pale malt, inviting and pleasant, though a little one-dimensional

T: Again, cloves are taking the forefront on this. Hops seem quite diminished... an expected citrus hoppiness isn't there. Still alright nonetheless.

M + D: Soft, refreshing... and sparkling. The body does seem a touch full for a hefe, but still a decent, enjoyable brew. A reasonable sessioner, and worth looking into for an afternoon out with good company.

Pours a cloudy light orange with a rocky two-finger head that died quickly but left lacings. A very sour citric smell, heavy lemon, along with some good spicy notes such as coriander (not really clove and light pepper). Smooth and medium-bodied, somewhat spring-like hops with some sweetness. The spices blend well with the citric fruits, but the citric notes are the real taste with orange, lemon and some banana coming through (a couple other minor tropical fruits). A must have for any hefe drinker, especially on a hot summer day.

Pours a very bright cloudy golden color with a pure white head that dissipated into a light cap. The aroma is of banana, pepper/clove, with light lemon and tart apple. The taste is of banana and a slight lemon twang. Definitely resembles a Bavarian Hefe (a positive) as opposed to an American Wheat, however it is a touch watery. The feel is fairly light, again a bit watery, with tingly carbonation with a slightly astringent finish. Good job by Stoudt's making this taste like a Bavarian hefe, however it falls a touch short on flavor and feel. Still good and is very drinkable.

This is a truly impressive American Hefeweizen. Pours out a light golden toasted wheat color, perfectly clear effervescence until yeast is added, beautiful amont of yeast cloudiness.
Nose is chock full of clove studded bananas, wheats, lemons, hay, Hefe-perfection.
Flavor reflects the nose. Sweet, bananas, yeast, wheat intially with a nice lemony finish. Mouthfeel is creamy yet light, this beer is thoroughy enjoyable and tastes as fresh as Hefe in Germany.

12oz bottle poored into a pilsner glass.

Light hazey yellow with lage electric white foamy head leaving decent lacing and sticking around for quite a while. Smell is of bannana, bubble gum, and clove, not overpowering in the nose but still a very good dose of what the style should have. This one is a tasty thirst quencher for sure! Everythng in the nose comes in nicely and there is an overall gently sweetness to go with it. My one big grip is that there is a bit of a watery feel (not taste) to this one.

Single, twelve-ounce bottle just purchased from New Beer Distributors on Chrystie Street in Manhattan...
"Bavarian-Style Unfiltered Wheat Microbrewed Beer" on the front logo sticker...
Pours a hazy, cloudy, straw-colored hue with a decent-sized foamy headt that lingered on for a bit before slowly dissipating...
Earthy, wheat-laden aroma replete with citrus, pears, and apples...
Taste was thick and rich, with obvious wheat essences, green apples, coriander, spices, lemons, ripe fruit, and fresh citrus...
Creamy, thick mouthfeel with an excellent level of drinkability...
Makes for a great warm-weather brew...
Another winner from Stoudts...

Appearance: Pours a hazy straw color with a frothy head that sticks and laces, but compared to other hefes is a bit lacking

Smell: Bananas and bubblegum, with just a hint of clove

Taste: Opens with a nice blend of banana bread and Juicy Fruit gum, with the clove making an appearance at mid-palate; after the swallow, the flavors blend very nicely to the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; lacks the creamy fulsomeness (word?) to make it great

Drinkability: Despite the mouthfeel issues, this is a first class example of an American brewed hefe

Thanks, LittleBreeze, for the opportunity

Beer poured a cloudy, bright yellow into the glass with a nice foamy, white head atop. Aroma had hints of cloves, banana, citrus, and bread.

The banana and clove flavors really pop in your mouth, leaving a clean and flavorful aftertaste. The lemon zest and slight hop detail also round out the flavor's character. Other sweet fruit flavors can be found as well. Overall this beer packs tons of flavor. An excellent brew, one that I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys the style.

A pint at the Standard Tap

A tasty hefe that reminds me of Victory's Mad King Weiss. The aroma and flavor focus on clove spice with a hint of orange. The body is a touch heavy for the flavor and lower alcohol. There's a mellow, sweet malt flavor in the background and this comes off a bit like an amber ale.

A hefe that I hadn't tried before.... Lets give it a try!....

A- Not as cloudy as I'd expect from a hefe. Light golden straw in color. 1 finger head...Lacing disappears quickly. Low carbonation.

S-Wheat malt... moderate apple nose... spice... perhaps banana? Very nice

T- This has a very traditional hefe flavor in my opinion. Heavy wheat malt... juicy... apple and perhaps a slight lemon flavor.. nothing too strong or complex, yet still delicious.

M- Light/Light-Med... Low carbonation. Slightly tart on the tongue.

D- Great hefe to drink all night. Great summer beer. Highly drinkable

Stoudt's Weizen pours a hazy yellow with a thick white head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. The aroma seems like it has a good amount of clove and some banana. The flavor delivers what I would expect, clove, banana and bubblegum. Not bad, but it doesn't blow me away. Worth a try.

The beer pours a crystal clear gold color with a thin fizzy white head that quickly fades to spotty lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a nice pale and wheat malt scent along with a fruity yeast aroma. The banana and cloves are on display here. The taste is decent as well. It has a crisp and clean pale and wheat malt flavor. The yeast esters add a bit of complexity and fruitiness, but it's too filtered down for me. These beers are much better unfiltered. The mouthfeel is lacking. It's a medium bodied beer with adequate/good carbonation. There needs to be a bit more body and a little less carbonation. This is an easy drinking weizen. It would be a fine beer for someone just getting into craft beer, but there are definately many others I'd pick before this one.
