Pours a perfectly clear pale copper, the color of cider. Super-effervescent, tons of bubbles. Big toasted beige, foamy head.
Smells of grass, oranges, caramel malts, toffee--not your regular ESB, but not bad. The taste, however, didn't really follow the smell. It began with a roasted malt character, followed by a light grassiness and citrus, like orange peel. Like eating a handful of earth: the grassiness mixed with the earthiness of the malt. Bitterness hits in the back, after the swallow, but is so light as to hardly be noticeable. Somewhat sweet, actually.
Where it really loses it for me is the mouthfeel: light and watery. Light carbonation is nice, but the drink is so insubstantial.
I like the balance of roasted malts and hops, but there's too little hoppiness for a good ESB and too little malt for anything else.
