This roasty brew opens with a short, dark head and lighter color that I might expect in a real stout probably from the brilliant clarity. Ruby highlights suggest more of a baltic porter. The smell is openly roasty with chocolate character and some dried fruit. The taste is very charred, but also with some up-front fruit, a little chocolate, and a touch of sweetness, and a little sour for balance. Mouth feel is a little sticky, and not harsh dry like stouts can be. I've been not shy of drinking several of these...and I won't turn one down...but I wonder if a little fine tuning might turn this decidedly into a stout or something else...I think it is really not 'imperial' at a mere 6%, and needs to be more assertive, regerdless of a decent score.
