Poured from a bottle into a snifter at fridge temperature

Appearance (4): Very dark brown with faint mahogany tent around the edges

Smell (4.75): Probably the best smelling oatmeal stout I've had to date. A healthy amount of oats and roasted malts with a undertone of caramel malts. Light dark fruit notes as well

Taste (4): If only the taste matched the smell. Like others have said there is something a little off in the oat department, and also quite bitter which is a mild distraction. Roasted and caramel malts come through nicely however

Mouthfeel (4): Medium body; A bit too bitter for my liking as far as stouts are concerned

Overall (4.18): Although enjoyable, i feel this could be world class if the taste matched the smell. The odd oat character and bitterness threw me off a bit. It gets a little better as it warms and could be rated higher when room temperature. I think some age would tone down the oat presence and bitterness. Still a solid beer as my first offering from Stoudts.
