Not overly impressed with this one, head was on the weak side, light aroma and taste. I compare all tripels to Karmaliet, so it’s in some tough company. Decent but not outstanding.

I really enjoyed this brew, so tasty! I'm wondering what is wrong with some of you. How can you rate this beer low? It tastes fantastic and packs 9% abv. Does it have the head of a legendary Belgian beer? No. Does the smell knock your socks off? No. But you can't deny that taste. A nice offering from an American company trying to do a Belgian beer.

Mine was bottled on 10/22/14. Some of you are saying yours was boozy but honestly, I didn't get that at all. I ate some food when I drank this so I'm not sure if it skewed my palate, but it tasted very smooth and tasty. I had it on 4/16/15, I'm not sure if that amount of time aged it at all? idk.

I have a bias to Belgian goldens so these will inevitably be my higher ranked beer but this lacked depth. It didn't quite linger as long as I'd expect for a Belgian style ale. A bit more aroma would've been nice too. Props to a domestic brewery though for puttin out a Belgian. We need more of these.

I poured this beer into a chalice at a cool 50 degrees F and it poured golden and slightly hazy, one step above a pilsner or lager with a nice one finger head that retains as a ring and Friar Tuck center cap just like the Monk on the bottle. The lacing is fine and delicate.

I'm getting aromas of evenly mixed bananas, pears and honey with that familiar coppery metallic twinge that is common with Belgians. At least I think so. It may be a factor of all the aromas combined with a bit of alcohol. All in all, this is VERY nice! Some spice is definitely there as well.

The taste starts off sweet with an alcohol/carbonation bite there is a bit of the banana, and maybe some apple with a breadiness to the mix as you work your way through the sip some hop bitterness becomes apparent but it is very mild. What takes you most is Nutmeg, nutmeg and more nutmeg mixed with alcohol and black pepper. It's very good, but mostly sweet than balanced. Warming alcohol.

The mouthfeel is moderate to full bodied, creamy and sweet but leaves a film across your tongue. I found the carbonation in the bottle to be mid-range and playful.

Overall I would say that this is a good beer! In fact, I would definitely recommend trying it. If you could, put this up against a La Fin Du Monde and compare. I would love to do that some time. I would bet that there is a pretty big difference. I am going to give this a 3.8 out of 5 overall. I like it and want to drink it again, but I've recently had better and can recall the flavors. This might be better if it was cellared a year!

Poured into a snifter.

A: Slightly hazy golden yellow with two-finger, white fizzy, foamy head that lasted several minutes. Great lacing.

S: Belgian spice and yeast. Banana. Sweet malt. Alcohol.

T: Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Spice, sweet malt, and bananas.

M: Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Crisp.

O: Overall, just above average Tripel. It looks great in the glass, but the smell and taste were underwhelming.

Stoudts Triple has a medium, fizzy, white head, minimal lacing, and an opaque, orange appearance, with lots of floating gray matter. The aroma is of sweet bread, fruit cake, figs, and dates, and the flavor is the same, with a back-end bitterness and an underlying alcohol note. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Stoudts Triple finishes mostly dry, refreshing, and highly drinkable. Overall, this would be an outstanding beer to have early in the morning with eggs, bacon, grits, toast, and a biscuit. It's fabulous!

I found this unfiltered ale lighter-bodied and more carbonated up front than similar Belgian style ales, with a very smooth swallow which I think makes it a good candidate for folks just starting out with this style. This combined with a pleasantly balanced taste definitely makes it tempting to drink more than just one!

Appearance: Pours a hazy, dark gold color with a thick, frothy head.
Smell: Sweet, fruity aroma , yeasty. Alcohol is detectable but is covered by the malt and sweetness of the ale.
Taste: Fruity, bready, sweet, and maybe some slight banana and coriander flavor. It has warmth to it from the alcohol but it doesn’t overpower the flavor of the beer.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, creamy and carbonated with a nice finish.
Overall: Really tasty and well-rounded balance of flavor, and light-bodied enough to have more than one. I particularly enjoyed drinking this beer.

Poured into a Dogfish signature snifter. No readable freshness date.

A- Pours a medium amber color and hardly any head to speak of. Basically just a thin ring around the edge of the glass and wisps of surface foam. Decent streaks of lacing.

S- Toasty malt with a firm yeast aroma. Alcohol fume is easily detected but tries to hide behind the sweetness of the malt and spice.

T- Rich, almost perfumey spice flavor that works its way around the booze. Definitely a little hot and messy with the sweetness clashing against the alcohol rather than working with it. Belgian yeast is cluttered within the other ingredients.

M- Stingy, also thin from the low amount of carbonation. Sticky afterfeel.

O- I remember this being better back when I didn't know the style as well.

A: Pours a clear yellow-gold with a finger of white head that fades into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: Belgian spices up front with bubblegum and a sweet pear and grape finish with some yeast notes.

T: Spices are more present here followed by a stronger yeast presence as well. There are some light fruit flavors in there as well, but they're subtle. Light alcohol presence on the finish.

M: Medium-light body with medium carbonation, this beer avoids being too thick and sweet, though the alcohol presence gives it an undesired heaviness.

O: An alright tripel overal, though nothing spectacular. It's a little lacking in depth and body, but is far from bad.

Bottled 4/11/12.

Poured into a chalice. Pours mostly clear golden with minimal head and some yeast sediment. Plenty of tiny bubbles can be seen rising from the bottom of the glass. There is some of that banana and clove smell. I also detect the alcohol in the aroma. This tripel definitely as plenty of banana expression in the flavor. There is sweetness and breadiness from the malt with some back end bitterness and spiciness. The alcohol is detectable in the taste. The body is medium to full with moderate carbonation. The finish is smooth and not as dry as typical tripels. This is a very good beer.

My first beer from Stoudts, threw this in a mix-a-six.

Pours into a tulip orange with lots of haze and some flecks, white head eventually forms a thick ring with a few spots as a cap.

Smell is on the sweeter side for a tripel, but nice, sweet orange, yeast bread, some banana. Good strength.

Taste is good but a bit more abrasive. Lots of fruit, bread, Belgian yeast. Orange, lemon, clove, banana, grassy and herbal notes, light vanilla, some booze.

Smooth and full-bodied with medium carbonation, a little boozy but not bad.

For an American tripel, pretty solid.

A: two finger frothy white head on a murky pale golden with slight amber hue body.

S: sweet honey, lemon/orange/apricot citrus, mild yeast character.

T: fruity with lemongrass, apricot, banana and some peach. Nice base yeast. fruit is a little sour. herbal notes with corriander and light clove.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation, nicely creamy.

Overall: Not too bad. This one would make a great base beer for barrel aging. Nice beer.

I bought a case of this at City Beverage in Winston Salem for only $29!! There is no way I wasnt going to take a chance on this beer for that price. Glad I did.

Pours from a 12oz bottle into a New Belgium globe a clear and dark straw color. Topped with a slightly wispy white head of no real substance or depth.

Aroma was quite complex. Loads of clovey esters with hints of bubblegum and corriander. Even a bit of spiciness in the way of black pepper. Definite belgian-type sugar in the nose.

Really wonderful on the taste buds. Perhaps a little bitter/astringent and sharp up front. Slightly sweet. I like the spiciness that is present and the cloves really shine. Slightly hot on the feel and definitely warming to the ears and nose.

I was really glad I purchased this case. I wouldnt pay top dollar for this but it is certainly a well made Tripel and worthy of any reasonable price tag.

Pours a slightly hazy golden apricot color work a solid eggshell head that lingers.

Aroma begins boozy, with apricot, orange, belgian yeast, and a bit of must highlighting a slightly bready caramel malt backbone.

The flavor echoes the aroma well, but with a little less fervor. Booze is ever present, and the caramel malt backbone dominates the flavor, which is fairly flat. There are hints of the esters promised in the nose, but they fall short early. Apricot, pear, a bit of toasted breadcrust, coriander, and a bit of belgian yeast character are evident, but they fade quickly.

Body is on the heavy side, with low carbonation and significant alcohol warmth. Higher carbonation may have helped enliven the flavor profile.

Overall, a disappointing attempt at a tripel. Alcohol overwhelmed the palate, and the flavors really seemed dulled.

12oz. bottle poured into a snifter

A- a crystal clear goldenrod with orange highlights. A thin white head dissipates quickly, a little bit of lacing down the glass. You can see the alcohol legs on the sides of the glass as well.

S- candied fruits, mainly pear and apple, belgian yeast, spices, and a bit of booze.

T- A really nicely blended combination of the smell. Candied sugar and fruits hit up front, in the middle the yeasty esters of the Belgian yeast strain come in with some spices as well. Finishes with a bit of booze and balancing hop bitterness.

M- if there is one thing Stoudt's does well, it's mouthfeel. This one also has a creamy mouthfeel that dries perfectly on the finish.

O- I'd take this over some of the Belgian examples of the style. May be a bit too sweet for some, but I think it really works, and makes for a very approachable, and delicious Belgian Triple. I also see in many of the reviews that the alcohol is too forward in this brew, and I just don't get that. It is certainly there, but at no time dominates the sip. Great stuff.

This brew pours a golden color with a two finger head which lasts until near the end with lacing which stays on the glass throughout. Heavy carbonation which remains until the end.

The smell is malts, yeast and mild hops, there is really nothing to it.

The taste starts out with malts and moves to bitter hops. There is also a slight biscuity taste. The alcohol taste is also prevalent; especially in the aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is biscuity and creamy; which is normal for this style.

Overall this brew is very basic, malt, yeast and hops and not much else. Additionally, the alochol is not well masked and remains on the palette as an aftertaste.

12 oz bottle was poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a one finger head that has reduced into a thin layer. A golden yellow straw haze with some bubbles coming up the side of the glass. Spotty lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: typical tripel....apples, pears, vanilla, spices, beligian candy, bready malts, and yeasty esters. Delicious.

Taste: Super delicious. All of above blended really well together. Boozy alcohol also. This is definitely a sipper. Getting more delicious as time passes.

Mouthfeel: smooth, easy to drink, medium bodied, medium carbonation, and boozy deliciousness.

Overall: another solid tripel out of all the ones I have had over the years. They seem only to get better with time. Even though the Belgiums have been doing this for many many years, breweries over here in the states seem to be putting out a good product also.

Poured into a stemmed tulip: Translucent, melon-like golden-orange with a finger of spritzy head that drops to a dusting with a tapioca collar. Lots of tiny, fast nucleation around the rim.

Pleasant, inviting smell of honey, sweet banana, a slight doughiness like shortbread cookies, some boozy spiciness. This sounds weird, but there's a smell that reminds me of IKEA. Explain that. Very enjoyable, though.

Banana & cookie dough gains some traction in the taste, a little more kind of warmed orange. Booze isn't overwhelming but a big guest at the table, with an assertive dryness & a little heat. Ends surprisingly clean, with just a little lemon yogurt in the aftertaste.

Full-bodied & buoyant, with a feel that goes from sugary to slightly bitter to moderately warming & dry without getting overly boozy. Kind of different movements, but they tie up nicely.

Plenty going on here without becoming too unwieldy or dropping the ball. Not the most complex tripel I've had, but very enjoyable & one I'd be happy to grab again. Now if I could only get to the bottom of that IKEA association!

Neither here nor there... this is a Mr. 5 beer that doesn't wow but doesn't disappoint *too* terribly. The unfiltered, pillowy, peachy-iced-tea color is the most attractive thing, but otherwise this is far too muted for a tripel. The aroma and taste that one expects from a tripel-- salty, hammy, funky bread-- are present but they seem unable to escape from the padded bag into which they've been stuffed. You won't have to work very hard to decode this beer. A reasonable intro but not much beyond that.

Found myself in the monument to consummerism today around Bocktown and need to buy my brother in-law-in-law a mixed sixer for his b-day...I figured that I would need some supplies too. This was one of them.

A: Golden and hazy with percolating bubbles. two finger head that settled into a 1/4" of still good head of very tight bubbles. Very attractive all the way through the glass.

S: Smells of sweet pear and spices. A bit of that yeast comes through in the nose.

T: A biscuity sour fruit, follwed with almost indistinct lemongrass undertones and manadarin orange and other faintly sour fruit, that disappears into a pleasantly light, bitter heat at the back of the throat.

M: Silky smooth due to that carbonation and smoothness + tight bubbles means the bottle conditioning has done its job and then some. Coats without being overly cloying or clingy.

Overall I like this brew. The bottle conditioning brought the carbonation level up rather high. After writing this and reading some other reviews, it appears that the carbonation level I had in this bottle might have been excessive, skewing the M: score down a tick. I will have to try another if I can find a different lot.

Had on tap served in tulip shaped glass

Appearance – Pours a haze orange/golden color with a nice white head. The head fades slowly giving away to the very slightest bit of lacing.

Smell – Yeasty and sweet are the first detected; yeast cake and sweet fruits of orange and a bit of tropical mango and some banana are present. Then a bit of bready maltiness works its way through the aroma, with the whole aroma rounded out by a light alcohol/boozy aroma.

Taste – The taste is very similar to the smell only in a different order. As opposed to the aroma, the first taste detected was a bit more breadiness with some biscuit flavor. The yeasty flavor, present throughout, stays while the bread flavor fades giving way to a sweeter taste profile of mango, orange and banana. Like the smell however the whole taste experience finishes with a nice mild alcohol flavor rounding it all out.

Mouthfeel – A nice creamy body with a good level of carbonation. A good slow drinking/sipping beer; perfectly matched to its alcohol content.

Overall – While not the best Belgian triple I have ever had, very enjoyable none the less. Nothing stands out, but nothing brings it down; overall moderately balanced.

Bottle courtesy of my sister. Clear golden hue capped by a small foamy head with almost no retention. Light citrus, grass, and dull earthiness in the nose. Taste is big cracker sweetness, sour apple, light clove, and flowers. Big full body, light carbonation to assist. A good solid beer.

12oz bottle with "Bottled on 3/16/11" stamped on the neck. Noticed a layer of sediment prior to the pour and will attempt to leave the majority of it inside the bottle.

Well, I did a semi-careful pour and managed to leave most of the yeast in the bottle, but there are definitely a few particles floating around inside my La Fin Du Monde glass. The beer is a hazy copper orange and was initially topped by a good two finger's worth of off-white head. The foam has reduced to a pretty thin layer, but it's sticking to the glass very nicely.

Typical aroma for the style....sweet, fruity, rock candy, ripe pair.

Taste: Sweet and fruity flavors are right up front. Some hop bitterness about mid-sip. Very typical Tripel flavors all around. The alcohol combines with the yeast and some more sweetness in the finish.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Maybe just a bit on the low side for the style, but that's alright by me.

A good Tripel overall.

Morey's Bottom Line: This just isn't my favorite style of beer. I like them, but I've yet to have one that I love. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this is one of the hardest beer styles to differentiate between.

A: A hazy golden orange with almost no head or lacing. I may have served this one too cold.

S: Not particularly strong. It smells sweet and fruity.

T: A slightly bitter bite that turns sweet and yeasty at the finish. Boozy but I also get what tastes like peaches and something citrusy.

M: Thick and creamy. Sits in the mouth like apple cider.

O: Haven't had many of this style but I have to say I enjoyed it. Now to clean that sediment off the bottom of this glass.

Paid $2.49 for a single 12 oz bottle at Total Wine

I poured the bottle into an Ommegang tulip glass which produced a narrow off-white head that dissipated quickly to a mere ring and small island with no lacing. The color was of an attractive bright honey color and very hazy.

Fragrance was dominated by Belgian yeast - what a fine smell. fresh baked bread, sweet malts, hints of booze.

The flavors were also dominated by the yeast from front to back mixed with some ripe fruits, malts, and booze.

Carbonation was really high which i felt detracted from the mouthfeel. Also, some boozy qualities.

Overall, good but not great. The Belgian yeast is the star of this show.
