Appearance - This lager has a pleasant deep gold color. A fairly small head.

Smell - This lager smelled of malt, but not strongly, and of honey, but only faintly. There was there was almost no scent of hops in the beer. The odor was subtle, but pleasant.

Taste - When I first sipped through the small head, I was not impressed. It had almost no flavor of hops as an introduction to the moderately bitter aftertaste. The hearty malt flavor was dominant and quite nice. Honestly, it seemed little more than a macrobeer lager. As I drank more, it really grew on me. As the beer warmed, and its underlying flavors became more prominent, I became impressed. I drank the 12 oz beer over the course of an hour and it was good to the last drop. WARNING: Drinking this beer too cold might taint the experience.

Mouthfeel - My favorite part of the beer. Very creamy and smooth for a lager.

Drinkability- After the first, I wanted another. Would complement countless dishes.

Wow! This IS the best session beer. If there is one beer I could drink for the rest of my life STOUDTS GOLD would be it. Simply a great refreshing beer with an unparallel taste. Picked it up in Pittsburgh and can't wait to grab some more next time I'm back.

Presentation: 12 oz brown twist off long neck bottle with no freshness date.

Appearance: Pale yellowish golden with a nice frothy white head that leaves uneven rings of lace down the glass.

Smell: Suggestions of nutmeg and white pepper from a spicy hop and hints of raw honey from the malt make up the aroma.

Taste: Strong armed crispness washes over the palate with a thick malty and grainy flavour. Medium bodied. Malt is a touch toasted with a cracker like flavour, hops do a good job at balancing and leave a faded herbal flavour throughout. A ghost like grape flavour suggests the use of Munich malt and a faint alcohol jumps in at the end give some notice. Long flavourful lightly toasted grain flavour extends far into the finish.

Notes: This one is a bit in the raw and lovely at that. There are lagers then there are great ones and this is one of the great ones. Seek this one out, I’d have to have it say it is a must try if you like Munich style lagers.

This is from Stoudt's Variety case. I drank it in a pilsner glass. Date is clearly sprayed on the bottle. (Yay!)

Pours a beautiful gold with a very slight orange tint. With a somwhat rough pour, I got a three finger head of white foam. The head dropped to islands and a ring, with great lacing.

Aroma is very nice pilsner malt, along side a somewhat muted spicy hop smell. Smells are delicate, but very pleasant. Not as pronounced as their pils, but very nice.

The first flavor is pils malt, slightly sweet, with just enough hop bittering to make a difference. This tastes very fresh. Faint spicy hops are bringing up the rear of this one. Aftertaste is short and malty, maybe a little honey, with a late bitterness.

Mouthfeel is malty sweetness, with gentle carbonation. Finish is surprisingly crisp for the amount of sweetness.

I like their Pils better; it's drier and hoppier, but this one is right on style, as far as I can tell. Drinking beers like this fresh also makes a big difference. For a Munich Helles, this is pretty damn good.

12oz contract brewed at Frederick. I've had a few Stoudts beers but I realize now they have all been from 12 oz bottles and I've never tasted anything in the bigger bottles actually made at Stoudts. Nevertheless, I love their beers and think they are worthy of more attention. This beer is no exception, a crisp, malty, clean quenching lager that is a perfect American representation of a German style beer. Lovely head that wisps into clouds, appealing musty aroma, full rich maltiness right off the bat, then tempered by flavorsome (not too bitter) hops. This beer will do for any occasion and you might be able to get that Bud-light-swilling friend of yours to drink a few of these under the right circumstances. A flawless beer, ridiculously drinkable. I think I shall have another.

It's a hell of a lager.

Pours a clear and bubbly yellow with a plump airy snow white head. Smells slighltly of grain and a little citrusy like hops.

The taste is outstanding. The initial swig is full of malt sweetnees with a scant amount of bread. Medially the body is quite pronounced with the carbonation making itself known. The hops have a little bit of the bite but it is a lager and it balances quite well with the malt up front.

Nice job Stoudt's

This beer pours a crystal clear burst of sunshine gold with a fluffy white head leaving a trickled lace. Aroma is full of delicate German hops are paired with a crisp sweet two pale malted barely. Taste is a crisp smooth sweet rolling malt profile that is mellowed by a nice bitterness. Very nicely done crisp lager can be compared to other great German lagers. Awesome summer beer one could easily go through a case of this brew. Mouthfeel contains a tingling sensation that runs through to the back of the throat with a lighter body this beer is one solid session brew. Drinkability can be explained as the most simplistic yet most amazing chalk full of goodness this beer is one that just keeps coming back to you.

On-tap at the Porter in Atlanta.

Pours a clear straw color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of pilsner malts with good amounts of crisp floral hops and hints of biscuity malts.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Smooth pilsner malt flavors up front are integrated with slight biscuit malt flavors. Midway through the sip slight amounts of floral hop flavors enter into things and carry through to a mildly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a solid thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall this was a solid beer that did everything right. A good selection to keep in the refrigerator in the summer.

ST: 12oz poured into a flute.

A: Clear, bright gold with a thick white head that quickly settles, Stoudt's Gold Lager has beautiful steady large bubbles that continuously smack the roof of the beer.

S: Most of the aroma is that of the hops. Slightly spicy with citrus, there is also a bit of honey.

T: The beer starts with nice crisp citrus and follows through with spice. Towards the finish the malt subdues some of the crispness and a bit of honey and malt thickness take over, though the spice is still present.

M: On the lighter side, it is creamier towards the finish but still finishes dry.

O: With all the impressive and unique beers that exist in the world of mircobrews today, the classic types are often ignored or sub par. Every brewery, it seems, has a pale ale or lager because it is part of the line up (it is tradition). My point? That Stoudt's Golden Lager shows how excellent the classic types can be. Sure, it is amazing to have a rare beer aged in oak for two years with chocolate or roasted Hawaiian coffee beans before being blended with other casks and then, finally, reaching the shelf in very limited quantities (yes, I used a bit of hyperbole). After all, I am one of those people trying to buy that interesting beer. However, it is nice to buy something that reminds you that beer does not have to be brewed in unique (and sometimes unnecessary) ways for it to be good. We are fortunate to live in a world of beer were we have both.

A: Pours a clear, light golden color with a one finger white head upon pouring. The head quickly reduced to a very thin layer of white on top. Sheets of thin lacing remain on part of the glass.

S: Light malt and grain, a little bit of grassy hop, and some spice. There is a little bit of apple that comes through.

T: Slight bready flavor, but rather light, with a little bit of spice and some grainy malt. Slightly sweet on the finish and a mild hop presence.

M: Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Drinks crisp and clean, goes down easy.

O: Easy drinking, could relax with this beer on a hot day for sure. Would be a good sessionable beer. Flavor is solid, despite being a lighter beer.

Situation: First day of school--step one of 180...
Glassware: Samuel Smith lager glass...
Appearance: Foamy, frothy resistant white head; straw gold color with a thick bath of effervescent bubble, slow and steady...
Aroma: Sharp bitter pilsner malts release a bouquet of fragrant floral notes--fresh and robust...
Palate: solid, even, medium-bodied but engaging the mouth with strength; drinkable...
Taste: crisp malt balanced by enough hops to keep all parts of the mouth appreciative; solidly in line with the style....
Overall: Stoudt's does lagering right, and Lew Bryson is right to celebrate this offering, with its spring/fall versatility and its by-the-six pack drainability...

Stoudt's Gold Lager

Appearance- golden yellow borderline orange with a thin but nice lacing head.
Smell- Sweet malt and light grain/ hops.
Taste- Lemony and sweet. Decent malt presence with a slight metallic taste.
Mouthfeel- light and sweet. Easy to drink but tastes much better the colder it is.

Overall- a Lager that gets my thumbs up. I don't like the metallic twang in the back end of this beer but otherwise its a respectable Lager!
