Massive kudos to Zrrbrt for this one!
Pours an efferevescent caramel/amber with 2 fingers+ of sand colored head. Super head retention & lacing
S: Doughy, oaky with vanilla raisins (sic), rum, bourbon& general goodness!
T: Bready, fruitty, oaky & yummy up front! Dates, rum, & charcoal follow. A slight piney hop bite follows with some toffee
MF: Chewy/bready with low carbonation & great balance
Drinks like original sin, love this to pieces! A great barley wine; I could drink this all night or till I go to sleep! This is my shining example of barleywine!

Sampled bottle, RBNAG 2007 in Grimstad, as Stoudt’s Old Abominable Barley Wine Ale, aged in a whiskey barrel. Hazy brown colour. Sweetish, malty and oaky aroma. Sweet, oaky and malty flavour, maybe too sweet.

Bottle from Toby, barley wine tasting 2018. Musty and leathery, tannic and bitter. Dry and gritty. At it's core a solid barleywine, but it got a bit musty with age.

Landed this through a trade about a year or two ago. Stoudt’s hasn’t brewed the barrel aged version in quite a while so this must be an old bottle.
Copper color with a huge white foamy head that came out of nowhere like the old abominable snowman sneaking up on an unsuspecting victim. Huge pop when I pulled the cork – didn’t expect that from such an old bottle.
Some nice barley, malt, and surprisingly some hops as well. Smells like I’m hiking in deep dense forest during a snowstorm. I can almost smell the old abominable lurking in this beer just like he does in depths of the woods.
Barley and malt up front with a nice hop finish. This beer has held up very well. A big thanks to Stoudt’s for having the courage to venture into the snowman’s territory and bottle this rare gem.
Chances are I will never have this beer again… especially with this kind of age on it. Very smooth and enjoyable. Def a sipper. Split with R Moe Nay and Greg. We went out onto the balcony and called for the old abominable to give him a sip… but our yells did not reach him.
