Reddish orange beer that is a few degrees from ruby. The beer pours with a crackle and a quick to form tan head. The bubbles recede quickly and stain the sides of the glass with leftover suds.
The smell is malty sweet with hints of white pepper. Not much in the way of hops but it is a pleasant nose.
Taste is quite nice. The malts are for sure the dominating component of this brew with a sweet, bready presence. Again no trace of a hop except for a mild bittering in the finish.
To me the mouthfeel is the best part. I dig the smooth texture of this one and the slight carbonation. There is a subtle hop pinch finally here that could have been around in the scent and taste but then that wouldn't be true to style. All in all a tasty beverage but not much more then average. Easy to drink but not very exciting.

12oz. bottle poured into a porter glass.
A- Beautiful. A deep, translucent amber, with a dense, fluffy off white head. Laces fantastically.
S- Bready, caramel malts with an earthy hop component. The hops work surprisingly well, and make for a really tasty interplay of malt and hops.
T- A nice, bready, caramel and cracker malt bill. Big lager yeast presence, and some mild dark fruit. Closes with some earthy hops that come off almost minty. Lightly bitter on the finish.
M- pretty thick, certainly feels like a doppel. A creamy character that I find on a lot of Stoudt's brews.
O- Looks fantastic, mouthfeel is pretty great as well. Smell Falls a bit short, and I could use a bigger hop presence, but it's pretty darn tasty.

Dark amber copper color with a thick beige head with eternal retention and leaving a wall of laces.
Sweet aroma of honey, vanilla and papaya.
Intense and predominant sweet flavor of peaches, toasted malts, herbs and spices, and bit of pine. Quite dry and bitter aftertaste.
Medium body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 7.2% abv is well hidden.
Well executed Doppelbock with an American hoppy touch, nevertheless malt still predominates here, as it should.
