Poured into a Pilsener glass.

Pour yielded a billowing head that that formed a stiff meringue cap that stubbornly clung to the beer all the way down the glass leaving a lattice work of lacing. Beer is a pale gold with faint barely discernible bubbles.

Aroma: An amazing, complex aroma which far exceeds any other Pils aroma I have smelled. Lemony, peppery, summery, yeasty and malty all zipping around my nose.

Mouthfeel: nothing special going on here.

Taste: doesn't live up to the aroma but isn't bad. Restrained Noble hop bitterness with a slight citric sourness. Slight peppery-bitter aftertaste with an echo of lemony sour that is not overwhelming.

Notes: Not bad, much better than Victory Prima Pils. I am coming to the conclusion that of all the German Non-Bock Lager styles, Pilsener is my least favorite. I put Helles, Dortmund and Vienna Lager styles ahead of Pilsener as being more balanced, more drinkable, with less bitterness and less aftertaste. I won't be on an a quest for the perfect Pilsener anytime soon.

Poured into a pilsner glass a light straw color with a nice fluffy white head that stuck like glue as it settled, very German in the nose toasted grain and mineral qualities with a touch herbalness saaz maybe?Very dry pils here dry toasted malt underneath a dry, somewhat herbal hop profile I do notice a s I drink more a freshly baked bread elemeant to it that adds to its subtle complexities of malt vs hop.A damn fine pilsner one of the better to come my way in a while for sure.

Appearance – This Pils is a light, highlighter yellow in color and very clear with a nice, white, fluffy retentive head.

Smell – The aroma consists of light, husky grain with the smallest sugar aftersmelll.

Taste – The grain really opens up at the taste. It is very smooth and like I said earlier full of husk. The sweet flavor comes on much bigger as well. It is sweet like the sugary flavor you get from vegetables.

Mouthfeel – This is good and big for a Pils, much bigger than what I’d call light-bodied if not quite medium-bodied. It is incredibly smooth in between the cheeks.

Drinkability – This is one of the few truly drinkable examples of a German Pilsner I’ve had made here in the US. Well done, Stoudt’s!

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #39 (Apr 2010):

Pours a bright, clear, pale golden color, topped with a creamy head and full of lively carbon- ation. Fresh malt nose with a gentle touch of flowers. Crisp and refreshing up front. Light bodied, but very smooth and creamy. Snap of citric rinds, some saltiness, a bit of peppery herbal flavor-- quite bitter. Thin layer of grape fruitiness beneath, followed by a base of fresh biscuity malts; a bit toasty, but dry overall with just enough sweetness and malt char- acter to keep the hops in check, while also allowing them to assert themselves. Finishes very clean with mild bready and herbal lingers, and a touch of steel.

WTF. We're in Germany! Translation: a spot-on example of the style and a damn solid Pils.

This beer stands out to me among the usual pleasant-but-forgettable everyday beers I have, so I chose it to be my first review back in a long time.

After drinking six of these, the most noticeable characteristic of this Pilsner is the sheer BITTERNESS. This is without a doubt the most bitter pils I have ever had. There's none of the usual "touch of sweetness" or "light-bodied" to be found here. This is a bold, strong, full-bodied, bitter pils.

The bitterness somewhat limits the drinkability, so having several of these in a row would be a bit too much to handle for most people. Stoudt's Pils isn't the best I've ever had (that honor goes to Troegs' Sunshine Pils) but it definitely takes a strong #2 position.

Poured from the pint bottle a clear golden with light white head that settled down to a nice little ring. (bought from Stoudts) Scents of champagne, white grapes, maybe a little honey... very nice. Lots of carbination hits your tongue right away with a slight bite. Very light moutfeel, very thin but not watery. Slight citrus, little bit of grapefruit, chardonnay... Decent beer, little light for me though.Very drinkable.

I sampled a 12 ounce bottle, poured light straw, with a medium bubble white head, minor lacing observed. Nose is the expected and hoped for grassy saaz hop type stuff. Crisp, cleansing and clean tasting Pilsner. Nice take on the style , well worth enjoying a bottle or two, went nicely with some cheese, crackers and salad.

Appearance: bright yellow, clear, 1/4 inch head, high carbonation

Smell: malt, caramel, bread, and grass

Taste: a grassy malty start that is not overpowering with abrupt big hops at the end

Mouthfeel: super smooth, sweet with a bitter middle to end, light

Drinkability: After tasting several pils lately I find this one to be just average. This beer is very two note a weakish start followed by a bigger hoppy explosion. I could have one more, but I would just as soon turn to another pils.

Thanks to djrn2 for sending this beer my way.

The beer pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is lemon, pilsner malt and grassy hops. The flavor is spicy hops with medium bitterness. There is a nice malt backbone and some citrus notes. The flavor is also slightly metallic. Soft mouthfeel and medium-high carbonation.

This is from a new sampler case from Stoudt's. Date is clearly stamped on the bottle. (Yay!)

Pours a brilliant, clear straw yellow with a two finger head of white foam. Looks well carbonated. The head eventually drops to islands and a ring, with great lacing. I love that!

Aroma is a great combination of German pils malt and spicy Noble hops. Malt is bready and stands out well. Hops are black pepper and maybe a little citrus. Aroma is a little grainy, but very nice! I actually sat at my computer smelling my empty glass when I was finished reviewing this!

Flavor is crisp pils malt, bready and light. The hop bitterness is right up front, and the flavor of spices like pepper or lemon pepper from hop flavor come through really well. Aftertaste is slightly grainy pilsner malt and Noble hops.

Mouthfeel is clean and crisp, with a good carbonation bite. Just enough residual sugar here to be felt. Finish is crisp and on the dry side. Delicious burps!

I haven't reviewed too many German Pilsners, so I don't have that much to go by, but, damn! this is tasty. You could drink this an entire Sunday watching football and still go back for another. Highly recommended.

poured into my tall Penn pilsner glass from 12oz brown bottle with a crimped cap.

Slightly hazy golden/straw color with a 2" thick creamy white head with very good retention leaving rings of lace all the way down the glass. Well carbinated constiant streams of tiny bubbles stringing and racing to the surface.

Strong to Moderate great hop nose very spicy, also floral and grassy with toasty to burnt carmell aromas. Wonderful aroma.

A light carmell taste followed by some burnt/toasty and tart tastes, then the hops kick in with some good spicy/woody tastes. Some grassiness with a slight metallic edge thats not offensive. Finishes clean and crisp with a nice citrus rind bite. Very good taste and a nice balance to match.

Light mouthfeel, with a bit of a grainy roughness and a nice tanginess.
Very easy drinking and enjoyable could drink lots of these on a summer day.
A very pleasing beer, would reccomend this beer. I going to have to pick up a case of this beer this summer, would be great out on the deck.

12oz bottle poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.

Pours a very light clear yellow with a ton of bubbles. It's got a nice big fluffy white head, looks very nice! Nose is sharp, sulfury and a bit biscuit-y.

Taste is very raw, sharp and hoppy. There's a distinct sulfur finish to it, really crisp and clean. It's clean and easy drinking and has a lot of flavor, I'd say it's right on par with Prima Pils

I had Stoudt's Pils on-tap at Sampan to go with some inspired izakaya grub. The clean, snappy bitterness and well-rounded pilsner malt was a good complement to fatty kobe beef sliders and korean bulgogi. The color was a pale straw with perfect carbonation providing a full white head. At $12/pitcher, this was a nice happy hour deal for an above average pils.
